Unreleased Music: Mobb Deep “Tha World” (Hell On Earth sessions)
Posted by Miss Info under good for hip hop , good for me , old music , things I like[25] Comments
(I know this is Infamous artwork, not from its followup album Hell On Earth, but it’s just such a cool image from that era…both Twins represented. The new Tims. The oversaturated Chi Modu photography with the blur in the foreground. Classically flawed)
With all the new music and the hyperspeed pace that we consume said music, I love seeing folks like Robbie Ettelson from the Unkut blog documenting and pulling the layers back on old music too. He got his hands on a previously unreleased Mobb Deep song from their Hell On Earth sessions and shared…
Unreleased Music: Mobb Deep featuring Rapper Noyd and Twin, etc* “Tha World” (usershare link)
Mobb Deep-Tha World _unreleased_.mp3
(thanks to Robbie/Unkut for their exclusive)
(*sounds like it was produced by Havoc, no? I’m not sure who else is on this song but I hear Twin on there…and possibly Noyd?)
(ps: The Infamous….one of my favorite albums of all time. pure genius. it feels like its being written out of the history blogs…I blame the lack of marketing savvy and maybe the surplus of prison rants…but that’s fine. we know the deal.)

“it feels like its being written out of the history”
HELL yea.. whats even sadder is that no one seems concerned.. these classics are getting thrown into obscurity.. when rosenburg and ciph did the Black Moon x Twilight parody, barely anyone knew wtf a black moon was, and its horrifying

The Infamous is in the the same category was Illmatic/Ready to die/36 chambers/OBFCL as definitive NY albums

absolutely. The Infamous is one of my all-time favorite albums.
In fact, I’d say it’s slightly better than Reasonable Doubt, even though RD is bigger in scope.
On another note, I’ve been looking for that REMASTERED version for YEARS!! Anybody know where I can find the Infamous that was remastered with 2 bonus tracks? Ms Info, know anything about this?

The infamous album is a 90s classic point blank period… your right it does rank up there with 36 chambers, ready to die, OBCL, and midnight marauders and so forth….
But I gotta let it out on this one…..im sick and tired of folks trying to compare Reasonable Doubt to all the albums that I just mentioned and the many more albums that are deemed classics of the 90s. All eyez on me etc. LETS KEEP IT REAL PEOPLE when Reasonable Doubt came out it was one of the most slept on albums…and I dont even think it went platinum until many years later….In my eyes it was not a classic at all…it absolutely nothing for hip hop in 96′ (think about it)
Nothing like the WU, PAC, TRIBE..etc. JZ’s album didnt do a damn thing for the 90’s era…so i dont see why folks try to act like RD make a significant impact on the 90s golden era. HOW IS IT A HIP HOP CLASSIC…Aside from the massive pub from Jay Z himself and re-releasing of the album to the public in thelast 10 years….i think JAY Z has done well in convincing the public that it is a classic…sorda like how he has mass marketing campaigns to promote his album…but lets keep it real RD didnt stand a chance against the REAL HIP HOP CLASSICS…..PLEASE SOMEONE LET ME KNOW how it is a classic …. MISSINFO?..SOMEONE? PLEASE!!

I absolutely agree that Jay’s album is not as great as people make it out to be.
People pretend like Jay-Z pioneered mafioso/hustler rap when that clearly wasn’t true. Cuban Linx came out earlier and is a better album. It Was Written & Doe or Die also came out earlier.
and yeah, Jay’s stuff was bumped up to classic status in retrospect because of just how huge he got around ‘98-99/Vol 2 time. and yes Jay knows how to promote his shit REALLY well.
However, it’s still a classic album. There are not many albums that are better than it IMO. From a musical standpoint. and even if people were ‘late’ to come to it, the album was still dope enough to stand the test of time and people were able to pull stuff from it.

i give you that…i shouldve said monumental or changed hip hop. Cause I dont feel like RD did anything was a monumental or even changed Hip Hop…like the other albums did. As far as a classic goes, i just feel like in 10-20-30 years when people look back at the best hip hop albums in the 90s. I dont think RD would be one of them. More Vol. 2, because it sold a grip…

The Infamous is an undeniable classic and Hell On Earth isn’t that far behind it.
It sounds like this song features G.O.D. Pt. 3 & Big Twins
And Prodigy used this same verse for Nighttime Vultures w/ Raekwon, which did make the album. If memory serves me correctly, that verse earned him a Hip-Hop Quotable in The Source…back when it still mattered.

Dope track. That took me back! It definitely sounds like a Havoc production. You can spot that a mile away.
I’m on the same page as you. The Infamous is one of my favorite albums of all time. It still doesn’t sound dated and almost every damn track is sick. It definitely should have sold better.
Shook Ones Pt. 2 is straight up fight music and Survival of the Fittest, Temerature’s Rising, Cradle to the Grave and Drink Away the Pain are all fire.
I’ve gotta go listen to this ish ASAP!

INFAMOUS, HELL ON EARTH, and MURDA MUZIC – the 3 greatest back to back to back albums EVER RELEASED by a single group in hip hop history. Those are untouchable, skip/fast forward free undeniable classics. Has there ever been a group that had a member be regarded top 3 lyrics, while the other was a top 3 producer? MOBB. “…we blitz like Dallas ina Superbowl faceoff / and form like niggas in the yard up north…”

I have to give it too you on that..
Peoples Instinctive….
Low End Theory…..
and
Midnight Marauders
Have to be the 3 greatest back to back to back albums in hip hop…well at least the 90s. Tribe had a perfect climax and decention as far as albums go in hip hop. because Beats, Rhymes, and Life and Love Movement were worst than worser…

I remember thinking to myself: “wow, TUPAC just committed career suicide” the day I heard ‘Hit’em up.’ The MOBB was that good. Props to the MOBB for being the only NYC reps who took up the NYC cause by the way. Prodigy’s flow/lyrics were scary & Havoc flow was plenty merry, but his beats were straight Halloween year round.

Prodigy verse is from Nightime Vultures, the joint with the bird sound effect in the back (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TBXbOPIeGU)
radio is part of the blame for this fam. If we had DJs on like we did back in the mid 90s like Evil Dee, dudes that played tracks that actually made your head nod and press record…vanilla ice and mc hammer got clowned for a reason back then. it wasn’t hate, it was quality assurance at work. Weed out the bad apples (talent lacking, only out for the quick buck artist) to keep the music raw and uncut. Where is Hammer and Vanilla Ice now? Mobb Deep still making music, Havoc’s mixtape he dropped over the summer was a good look.

Good call. It’s probably more of the Radio Station Programmers that are at fault because they won’t let the DJ’s dig in the crates or introduce new music and artists like they used to do. They just make them play the latest club/radio hit OVER AND OVER again.
Speaking of Evil Dee, you can listen to his podcast here. Definitely still bringing the heat: http://djevildee.podomatic.com/

I was just nodding away to this in the office and I startled (figurative) myself…because I realized I was just listening to a nice/simple example of ‘Boom Bap’, I was listening like “yeah this is exactly what I am supposed to be hearing” not like I was greatful because of the nowadays shite, I kinda woke myself up. Ok back to 09/2010 now…
