Trinidad James Locks In W/ Def Jam Records (#QuentinTarantino Rejoices ; )
Posted by Mikey Fresh under Interviews[26] Comments
It has finally been confirmed. Trinidad James has signed to Def Jam Records. Last night, the Twitter rumor mill was on fire about the “All Gold” rapper inking a deal $2 million deal with the historic label. Thanks to Billboard and Def Jam president Joie Manda we now know it’s 100% true.
Miss Info: The cycle from buzz to bids to binding contract is lightspeed. Trinidad has been rapping for what, 11 months? That’s quite a wild ride. And before Def Jam locked him in for what’s rumored to be $2 million… Rick Ross was looking to sign him (and then allegedly pulled away) and Diddy was on the hunt and Jimmy Iovine too. I had heard the ask was even up to $3 mill at one point. But here’s why I actually think that this guy may be worth some of his chips….He seems to be more aware of the “show” part of his part in “show business.” This may be a character, but if Trinidad is consciously playing it, then he’s smarter than the rapper who thinks he’s “living” it. Being self-aware means he can adapt, be realistic, have fun with it, and most importantly…be a professional. Best wishes!

The Atlanta rapper has chosen to sign with Def Jam Recordings, the label’s president, Joie Manda, tells Billboard exclusively.
“Def Jam, thank you for believing,” says Trinidad James.
“We’re excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family,” Joie Manda says. “Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop’s rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists. Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what’s happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz.”
Props to DJ Irie!

Was saying the same thing @info….he rolls with the jokes and he actually sounds real smart and aware in most of his interviews…..he’s like the lil Jon chapelle show skits or plies when he interviewed….you knew he wasn’t what he tried to portray

Wow. Nigga released 1 single from his 1st mixtape and had only been rapping 8 months.
Truly amazing.
The issue I have here is the effect it will have on influential kids hoping to jump in the game to get a 2 million contract without having to put any real work in for it.
I do believe there was a whole done behind the scenes to get Trinidad James to where he is now, but we don’t see that. All we see is a video comes out on Youtube and a month later the guy gets a million dollars.

I found it hard to read the official Def Jam statement without cringing.
James is Character, entertainer, a personality…..ok cool. Good seeing an fellow islander come up.
But Def Jam “prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop’s rich tradition…” Yeah this aint that.
Its a business move, trying to strike while another trend artist is “hot” I understand it 100%. It just sucks how much fluff comes with the game now.

I guess the upside to this is his music sounds different than most of these other cats.

I totally agree with Miss Info’s assessment. When I heard his interview with The Breakfast Club, he seemed pretty articulate and decidedly different from the character that he presents in songs/videos. Only time will tell.

Nah sun…fuck all of that! HipHop is out here survivin like Barbarians and Valkries …Trust me this is how its supposed to be; we’ll see the Vultures in Hell yo!
Think about it; just like we have to respect the place and names of Kool Herc and Africa Bam in this History ….some peoples names are going to HAVE TO BE attached to the downfall of this shit too…watch’em all run and backtrack when we start placing bloggers names and producers and MTVJs to the support of this shit! Watch’em ….hold your head and stand strong!

Know Your History: Lesson #1 —-Stepnfetchit was a ‘show business’ character too!?! Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry was his real name….he and other ‘entertainers’ like him did this because they had no other option. This is not to be glorified.
And if the vultures are telling you that we are in times of ‘no other option’ again!?! Shit is about to get really REAL in 2013…cause I’m down to snatch “All the gold on yo chains; smack all the gold out yo moufs” -bboycult

December 14th, 2012 at 2:03 pm
i feel like some one , some where sees that the underground is hot right now , and doing it hard like say a joey bad@$$ , Action Bronson , Nitty Scott Mc.Mayhem luren , Ab-soul , Kendric Lamar. and they see lyricist and coing back , and they cant have that , they want to continue to keep the masses simple minded as fuck. so they keep putting on these trash rappers.
