It has finally been confirmed. Trinidad James has signed to Def Jam Records. Last night, the Twitter rumor mill was on fire about the “All Gold” rapper inking a deal $2 million deal with the historic label. Thanks to Billboard and Def Jam president Joie Manda we now know it’s 100% true.

Miss Info: The cycle from buzz to bids to binding contract is lightspeed. Trinidad has been rapping for what, 11 months? That’s quite a wild ride. And before Def Jam locked him in for what’s rumored to be $2 million… Rick Ross was looking to sign him (and then allegedly pulled away) and Diddy was on the hunt and Jimmy Iovine too. I had heard the ask was even up to $3 mill at one point. But here’s why I actually think that this guy may be worth some of his chips….He seems to be more aware of the “show” part of his part in “show business.” This may be a character, but if Trinidad is consciously playing it, then he’s smarter than the rapper who thinks he’s “living” it. Being self-aware means he can adapt, be realistic, have fun with it, and most importantly…be a professional. Best wishes!

“Def Jam, thank you for believing,” says Trinidad James.

“We’re excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family,” Joie Manda says. “Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop’s rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists.
