Trinidad Jame$ Says the South Runs New York (Video)
Posted by Andy B. under Hmmm? , Outrage , Quotes , Videos[17] Comments

Trinidad Jame$ channeled his inner-Yeezus during a performance at the Converse Rubber Track Studios in Brooklyn last night. The “All Gold Everything” rapper — who’s signed to New York powerhouse Def Jam, let’s not forget — gave a speech about how the South is running NYC right now. Trinidad assured that he wasn’t “trying to start nothing,” but observed that most rappers who are popping in New York are (or may as well be) from Atlanta.
You can’t tell me, or anybody here that’s a real f*cking hip-hop fan, that Kendrick Lamar was supposed to go platinum just this year. He’s been that f*cking good! But now, the n*gga that we been knew [was good] is coming and saying shit like he the king of New York. What is that? I remember when New York ran this sh*t, dog. When Dipset was f*cking turned the f*ck up! We were in Atlanta like, “Oh my God, I have to wear my bandana on tilt like Juelz.” What the f*ck happened, dog? Us in the South, us ‘bammas, we just did our own thing. But now we run y’all, musically. That’s crazy!
I’m not trying to start nothing, but if you want to do something we can do something because I don’t give a f*ck. I’m just being honest with you. I looked up to New York music. But now every n*gga that’s really popping out of New York, you might as well say he’s from Atlanta. He’s from Atlanta. Y’all got n*ggas that interview that are more popping than n*ggas that are rapping.
He later took to Instagram to elaborate:
I said a lot tonight in NY and people are prolly gonna take the negative and run with it but my main purpose in life only is to take care of my mama and keep my shoe game on “30 million” . Other than that if I can inspire a young person to be the best person they wanna be along the way….then cool. Nothing else matters. #CrazyDeacon #BlackBatman
Watch the footage after the jump…
UPDATE: Trinidad Jame$ elaborated further on Twitter.
I didn’t disrespect. Bt if you wanna think I did. Do what you feel is best. Either way I lose no sleep for being real. NY doesn’t support Ny

Can’t really argue or be mad about it, He’s right.
November 13th, 2013 at 11:07 am
He didnt say anything thats not true. So while this gets the internets worked up today the NY status quo wont be changing anytime soon.
November 13th, 2013 at 11:37 am
Aww; that’s adorable, he’s trolling w/the TRUTH! …and THAT goes out to ANYONE in NY listening to/playing/purchasing/club twerking to any piece of inbred slave jism coonery titled Migos: Featuring etc…

Dude is speaking the truth and all the dudes he named are dope NY artist. A lot of people just don’t know about them. I like Rocky and Ferg but they’re so influenced by the south that I don’t think people associate them with NY like they should.
November 13th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
the HILARIOUS thing is that Rocky dropped the best project out of New York in YEARS, and that was LiveLoveASAP.
New York has a major quality and identity issue. Let’s be real: you’re telling me I should listen to Joey Badass (MF Doom wannabe), Action Bronson (Ghostface wannabe), Troy fucking Ave (50 Cent wannabe), Fred Da Godson (Jadakiss wannabe) and all these LAME-ass n*ggas?
I’m as New York boom bap loving as they come. DJ Premier is my idol. I was just bumping Pete Rock this morning. NY is the mecca of this hip hop shit.
But the reality is that NY music falls into two camps: a) lames who heavily dickride the South and make generic rap records b) lames who couldn’t get on in the 90s/2000s who say they’re ‘real hip hop’ when they have no personality, no charisma and no interesting musical angle, AND MAKE GENERIC RAP RECORDS.
like it or not, Clams Casino (the guy who worked with ASAP Rocky) is the best East Coast sounding producer I’ve heard in YEARS. Because his stuff sounds like RZA/Mobb Deep but evolved. Look it up. Dude is a huge Wu/Mobb Deep fan. You can’t tell me the beat for “Bass” isn’t some of the rawest real hip hop shit you’ve heard in a while.
When was the last East-Coast sounding beat that made you FLIP? I’m currently bumping “Skys The Limit” – the instrumental. I’m not saying take it that far back, but make some memorable shit!
New York doesn’t even know when someone from New York is doing something cool and forward-thinking. And Rocky wasn’t borrowing EVERYTHING from the South. He cherry-picked wisely. These lames from New York aren’t even cherry picking. They’re just dickriding wholesale.
The only NY artist I mess with (or used to mess with – LongLiveASAP was trash in comparison) is ASAP Rocky. Lyrically dude is weak but his emotive delivery is superior to everyone, and more importantly, he came with a unique and beautiful sound. Every one else can eat a dick.

Hes speaking the TRUTH…..now waiting for some New Yorker who cant comprehend what he reads to be HIGHLY OFFENDED SMH.
this is what Papoose and Rosenberg was arguing about. at the end of the day you have to blame the radio programmers. its about the $$$
November 13th, 2013 at 12:47 pm
Music is all Media Driven…You only hear about artists based on who the MEDIA deems are hot! NYC has always been the pinnacle of creativity and word play…they have fallen off for a long time…I would love to see some serious hip hop from NY get love again…The Internet…a gift and a curse…Pro Era…has torch they are carrying…as well as some solo underground artists but perhaps its time to go back to the essence…before making all the money was the main driver of the hip hop culture…
November 13th, 2013 at 1:12 pm
his speaking the truth, Igf this was kanye everyone would say this greatest speech ever in hiphop but cause it TJ people will play it off
fans will blame the radio, and the dj but radio and dj respond to what fan want
if fans don’t like call up hot 97 and power 105 let your voice be heard
November 13th, 2013 at 1:33 pm
Sad to say u bloggers need to brake more NY underground artists

what he said on twitter is not what he said live.he was talking real fly at a hipster party.he would’ve ate some bottles popping that shit in a hood club in ny.
lol @ a one hit wonder telling niggas to get their shit together
November 13th, 2013 at 2:24 pm
usually when you have something to say, it’s in a conversation with people who can say something back, so some discourse can be formed/building.
..but, given the location of his message to the people, its clear dude is just trying to create buzz by catching as much attention as possible. And, since it’s 2013, the harshest backlash someone in his position is gonna receive is via Twitter, which makes this modern day bread and circus all the more corny and inflated.

The retweets via @Combat_Jack from a chic that was there were fuckin hilarious!!!
This is comedy cuz the minute a punch gets thrown, a beat occurs n shots fly everybodies gonna be like that’s not hip hop, they took it too far, we was just talkin, these is just bars my nigga… Which is the core of east coast rap, spittin about that shit you live, doing the shit you talk about. That raw New York grit is what everybody’s looking for right now. It’s there but not from the ppl they want to hear it from.
That grit n knowledge rap was the shit that made the Loaded Lux vs Calico battle so legendary!!
But the difference is east coast rap is famous for street bangers that go hard in the clubs
(which escalates into street problems, cool).
Now it’s club bangers where everybody seared they livin that party/club life. An we all know how that be!
But like Ebro said support ya artist and they’ll get the shine they deserve.
November 13th, 2013 at 3:08 pm
This is what happens when NY lets one dude slide (Kendrick Lamar)….
Now I’m not saying what he said was not accurate, what I am saying is that now you have opened the doors for everyone to come here and say what they want and now it’s too late to stop it.
My issue with NY music as a whole is not solely the fault of the programmers because lets be honest..a lot of NY sounding music is straight boring right now.
There are still plenty of NY artists who make quality and current sounding music that sounds like NY and does not compromise their sound or legacy (i.e, Fab and Jay).
A good measuring stick is to ask yourself this…when is the last time Fab or Jay had a hot record that NY radio did not support?? These two artists have always gotten love.
So moral of the story is if more NY artist make current, quality sounding music; they too will get love.
November 13th, 2013 at 3:10 pm
can’t argue with that, it’s the #truth! NY rap fell off a long time ago. any club you go to, there’s nothing but downsouth music being played i.e. future, rick ross, jeezy, migos, waka, etc… eastcoast rappers step your game up, don’t come with that generic mediocre crap either and stop dickriding the southern sound. NY got identity issues, find your own sound, be original and make some hot shit!
Karma is a bitch when NY was hating on southern rap back in the 90’s…
November 14th, 2013 at 12:48 am
And it should be a dead argument right there.
Dude told the truth, now what?
November 14th, 2013 at 1:01 am
Right now NY rap is hurting…
Trinidad James is out there speaking some real truth and NY knows its true too.
I listen to a few of the NY up-and-comers but Trinidad James right, NY don’t support NY.
November 14th, 2013 at 10:30 pm
Lets keep it a 150, the problem is not so much NYers, its the RADIO. HOT 97!!! (YUP I said it!), Power 105 (Yeah I said it! POWER 105 since y’all “beefing” LOL). These radio stations are controlled by this labels and are being paid to spin records…SIMPLE. NY don’t support NY rappers is because the DJs don’t support NY rappers. Al they care about is money. Thats why I honestly love DJ Red Alert cause’ he always kept it real about a song, Hot is Hot Wack is Wack. He will spin in most of the time for free. Why? Cause Hip-Hop WAS a feeling of empowerment, you felt the song, relate to the song. Felt the world needed to hear it. Proud to stand by it. NOW, no integrity its…how much you gonna pay me. Thats why I don’t listen to the radio unless its noon for throwbacks.
