This is terrible news about one of our favorite comedians. Tracy Morgan was traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike late last night when his Sprinter (a luxury box-shaped Mercedes limo van) was hit by a tractor-trailer, flipping over with 6 people (including Morgan) inside. The accident involved 5 other vehicles (2 tractor-trailers, 2 cars, one SUV). A police spokesman told reporters, they did not believe alcohol was involved but were investigating, “Looks like one of the tractor-trailers may have rear-ended that limo bus, but that’s preliminary at this time.”
Tracy Morgan, age 45, had just performed at the Dover Downs Casino and Hotel on Friday night and was near Cranberry Township, NJ when the accident happened around 1am. There are reports that fellow comedian Artie Fuqua may have also been in the van. Morgan was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital, along with 2 fellow passengers. One of the passengers in Morgan’s van, James McNair of Peekskill, NY, was killed.
As of this morning, Tracy Morgan is still listed in critical condition, he is in the intensive care unit of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Center in New Brunswick.

UPDATE: 3:11pm on Saturday.
Tracy Morgan’s representative made a short statement on his continuing critical condition. Also, more details have been released about the nature of the accident and the names of the other injured passengers. (via the LA Times)
The tractor-trailer “failed to observe” slow moving traffic as it came up behind Morgan’s limousine and other cars traveling north on the highway near Cranbury, roughly 50 miles south of New York City, Williams said. The trailer tried to swerve to avoid Morgan’s limousine but struck the vehicle from behind, causing it to spin out of control and flip over, he said. Morgan’s vehicle, described by Williams’ as an “eight passenger Mercedes” then collided with a Buick Enclave and a second tractor-trailer before coming to rest.
“Tracy remains in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, the comedian’s spokesman, Lewis Kay, said in a statement. ” He sustained these injuries in an accident that occurred early this morning as one of several passengers in a chauffeured SUV returning from a tour date in Delaware. His family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care. We don’t anticipate much of a change in his condition today but will provide a further update once more information becomes available.”
Harris Stanton and Ardley Fuqua Jr., who were also in Morgan’s limousine, were also taken to Robert Wood Johnson University hospital in critical condition, Williams said. James McNair, 63, of Peekskil, N.Y., was pronounced dead shortly before 2 a.m. at the scene, according to Williams.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office will investigate the wreck with the State Police, and criminal charges are possible, Williams said. He declined to identify the driver of the tractor trailer or say how fast he was driving.
