T.I. gives thanks for all his mistakes and crimes…
Posted by Miss Info under good for hip hop , quotes , things I like , videos[55] Comments
for leading him to his current state of redemption.
Seriously, this guy is bigger than rap. I really enjoy watching his progression and his speaking power is something else.
T.I. accepts an honor from the first Hip Hop Inaugural Ball in DC. Also honored: Jeezy, MC Lyte, LL Cool J, and Bow Wow. To read more about the event, check Shaheem’s article.
T.I. says:
“I want to thank God for somehow … I know he perfect. So I’mma thank him for everything. I’mma thank him for making me drop out of school. I’mma thank him for making me run the streets. I’mma thank him for making me sell crack. I’mma thank him for making me have shoot-outs. I’mma thank him for allowing me to watch my partners die in my arms,” he said, his voice rising and quickening and taking on the cadence of a fire-and-brimstone preacher. “So I’d be fearful enough for my life and paranoid enough to go out and cop machine guns and silencers so I catch a fed case and I have to put up $3 million for my bond so I have to spend seven months of my life in my house, so I have to spend a year of my life in prison just so I be validated enough to get out there and touch the youth because they know that I done been through it, and if I say it, it means something.”

interesting take on the sovreignty of God. I’m inclined to agree with him, and he’s not saying any of stuff was glamorous, he’s saying god brought that into his life so that he could affect change on the next generation. hopefully with obama coming in, black men can collectively mature and realize it’s time to step up our game.

We’re all hypocrites!!!
Why so judgemental??
OK, his back was against the wall, like Info said, who ever really makes changes when the going is good. It usually takes something significant or traumatic to happen to kick start change. If he wasn’t a good dude at heart, it wouldn’t make a difference what circumstances occured he wouln’t bother to make that change.
Keep doing your thing T.I.
Peace.

I completly agree with you. I think TI is FOS!!! I don’t think that he is taking responsibility for his actions because he wants to. He is doing it because it is court ordered. He is trying to get a lesser sentence than the 1 year that he is already getting. If he wants less I say he just go do a little more snitching. It got him that 1 year….
Sorry TI but you need more people. I would commend him if he were doing all this on his own but because it’s ordered by the courts I question his motives….

Come on Miss Info…Stop the madness.
Even with an open heart a 12hr shift 6days a week and still Always having my Rent late, struggling too keep food in my fridge And pay for my kid’s(1) day Care all by myself as a MAN i have NEVER sold nor touched a Grain of Crack! I grew up in Coney Island and know the smell of such a drug that i could walk past an apartment and tell you if thats what was being cooked up during before and after….
And yet till this day even when it would make things easier i never sold any drugs nor ever been too jail and still managed too finish school and yet still i struggle..
So stall me out speaking of how Powerfull this clowns words are. I respect him as an artist for his music…I guess, but his faults in life were just that…HIS damn fault…and he made them as a Man not as a kid were watching grow into one….
So giving him “Props” or extra Kudos is ridiculous…dude is speaking to the youth because he HAS too as part of his Plea deal and who knows what else he did! Automatic weapons and silencers etc are a SERIOUS offence especially in this country and for an Already Convicted felon…so please spare us all the praise for this clown! I got homies doing 3-5 for selling Weed or having a Handgun and had NO criminal record!
So just because a guy puts the word “GOD” in front or during a sentence in a speech doesnt make him holy! Nor does Kevin L in the back yelling “That’s a Man” neither.
Chill Info…You know dude aint square.

Introspective, thoughtful people who are legitimately concerned about how their words, behavior, and actions effect others. People who don’t let outside repercussions dictate all of their plays in life. People unlike me to some extent. But, then again, I didn’t amass a fortune on a catalog of mainly violence and misogyny. I didn’t create a super-thug never snitch realest of the real persona that I would be expected hy my fans to justify.

T.I. – Live Your Life:
“The hooting and the hollering, back and forth with the arguing
Where you from, who you know, what you make and what kind of car you in
Seems as though you lost sight of what’s important when depositing
Them checks into your bank account and you up out of poverty
Your values is in disarray, prioritizing horribly
Unhappy with the riches ’cause you piss poor morally
Ignoring all prior advice and fore warning
And we mighty full of ourselves all of a sudden, aren’t we?”

To all those who diminish T.I.’s changes because they were made under the threat of incarceration: Think of all the other celebrities (and regular people) who had *their* backs against the wall, who got caught up with the law, and didn’t change.
It’s easy to shit on people and call them hypocrites. But TI has taken a very bad situation (which he created) and turned it around into a tool to elevate his own life, by helping others, by reaching out to young people, and to changing the message in his music.
He is one of the great rap talents of his era. For him to use his talent and his voice to spread positive ideas and to contribute to the uplifting of youth is important, no matter what path he followed to get there.

He sniched on whoever he needed to to get him only a year time. He is a convicted Felon, as far as I know being caught with 1 hand gun usually gives you a minimum of 3yrs. So being caught with all that he was caught with should have given him a hell of a lot more than that.
And I won’t go for the “he got a good lawyer” there are Federal minimums that a good lawyer just can’t get you out of…..

God I wanna thank you for showing me a Trap Star can break all street codes and ethics to save his own ass. I wanna thank you God for showing me that a label will pay to get you a lesser sentence as they will pay for you to get radio and video spins. God I want to thank you for showing me that a man would go to the extent of blaming the almighty for his ass being a knucklehead like he didn’t have a choice in all his matters. That’s some coward sh*t! Miss Info I’m so surprise at you. I thought you were much more intelligent than that. If noone ever changes while things are good… then what happens when things go from bad to good again?? Missinfo, I would have to disagree with you on this one. T.I. in NO way is bigger than rap. He is simply a TYPICAL rapper. Get in trouble for BS, now you all of sudden start preaching to the kids. Hell a cat like RKelly even had the audacity to make a gospel album in the midst of his troubles. At that time, he was being considered bigger than R&B. What would you consider him now? Constantly sending mixed messages to kids who think that they can pattern their lives after the phony one that he and every other artist seem to live. Any of these young cats on the street get caught with all the tools that T.I. was caught carrying, they will never see the light of day. I know that, and I aint a thug at all. Its pretty obvious, with T.I. being a felon and all, that he had to give up SOME type of info to receive a lighter sentence. Yet, noones believes that because he is a rapper. You guys give these cats WAY too much credit. T.I. made many songs about dudes in the street snitching, yet here in Atlanta he is doing PSA’s with Channel 2 News and Crime Stoppers telling kids to call in and report any drug activity in their neighborhoods. If your all that you say you are on the records, then dont take any plea deals that are offered to you and ride your time out like a soldier!!Right? lol. Of course, I know thats not likely, and I wouldnt even recommend it..not even for myself. But hell I aint the one pretending to be a thug either. Once the smoke clears, T.I.’s music will tell you whether he has sincerely changed or not. I would advise you, not to hold your breath though.

Talented artist. too bad he let his ego tarnish that. TI’s the epitome of what some call anti-social individuals. In that, I don’t mean non social I mean….a person who only acts in the best interests of themselves, whether it’s fuck you or fuck you with a smile to cover it up so I can get out of the heat that he’s in.
Case in point, what record has TI ever completed without a marketing ploy? ie: beef, jail, breakout of jail + beef, good guy vs bad guy, tormented soul, bad guy turned good + beef (shawty lo)
oh i left out ex drug dealer
Thought it was obvious…but i guess it’s just effective.

I’m happy that TI received an award for his work with the kids in the community. I disagree with him saying that God had him sell crack. No, he wanted to sell crack for the fast buck & fast cars. However, it’s good to see TI grow & become more responsible for his actions. I think he learned the error of his ways.

what law school did you learn that nonsense from?
peep (from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution):
Kaplan’s client was arrested after a tip that he was selling moonshine and drugs out of his house in Blue Ridge.
Already a felon, Ingram was indicted in late 2004 for possession of less than 50 kilograms of marijuana with intent to distribute and for possessing four rifles as part of his drug operation. Seven months later, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison, the punishment dictated by mandatory sentencing guidelines that are now advisory.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys say no two cases are alike, and because of changing sentencing rules it’s difficult to discern patterns or typical sentences.
“Every case is different,” said defense attorney Paul Kish. “Just because a person has notoriety and money, does that mean that should be held against him?”
Sentences imposed between 1987 through early 2005 were controlled by guidelines. Now they are not. Other cases in recent years show a wide variance.
Larry Bush was a core member of a group accused of making and selling 33 machine guns in Georgia, Alabama and Kentucky. Bush, of Lawrenceville, pleaded guilty in 2006 and was sentenced to nine months in prison. Federal prosecutors said he could have gotten as much as 10 years.
Another man in that case, Michael Miller, was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for pleading guilty to five charges involving weapons, but he could have been sentenced to as much as a decade on each count, prosecutors said at the time.
Aaron Meyers of Atlanta pleaded guilty in 2002 to possession of a firearm by a felon. Meyers, who was mentally retarded according to case records, previously spent 10 years in a state prison for a robbery some said should have been blamed on his twin brother. For the gun charge, Meyers was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison.
Robert Clymore, a soldier from Fayetteville, N.C., pleaded guilty last August to bringing a machine gun home with him from Iraq. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.”

“i guess all these people snitched too, huh?”
If they did, would the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) report it? And if you are using the crappy a** AJC as your strongest point of reference, you are either way out of touch or just dont live in Atlanta. You are taking quotes from an article written in this newspaper to JUSTIFY T.I. getting a lighter sentence. What the hell would you expect it to say?? U.S. Attorney David Nahmias had to give some reasoning for “approving the extraordinary plea agreement with rapper T.I”. How would you have expected the article to read if he did snitch..’I gave rapper T.I. a lighter sentence because he snitched’?!? Nowadays, they just use the term “cooperated”. And no Im not a lawyer nor a rapper, yet im sure if I was the latter I may have an easier time persuading you to feel where Im coming from..lol.

@City Boy Radio:
In my opinion, the most salient points from the article are thus:
1. As the prosecutors and defense attorneys mentioned in the piece, no two gun cases are alike. It’s difficult to discern patterns or TYPICAL SENTENCES. But so many people have commented on this blog (and others) about what T.I.’s sentence should have been.
So my question is this: How do you guys know more about sentencing than the attorneys whose JOB it is to prosecute these cases?
2. Sentences imposed between 1987 through early 2005 were controlled by guidelines. Now they are not. Other cases in recent years SHOW A WIDE VARIANCE (wide variance being the operative phrase here)
3. David Nahmias (nor the AJC, or any other media outlet) doesn’t have any vested interested in hiding the fact of whether or not T.I. or any other defendant cooperates. You think he gives a fuck about some stupid ass Stop Snitching street ethos? It’s not secret when a defendant chooses to cooperate. Who cooperates and who doesn’t is a matter of public record.
And to answer your question, yes the AJC would report it, just as Creative Loafing reported who cooperated in the BMF case.
I’m not trying to “justify T.I. getting a lighter sentence”, as there is nothing to justify. The point of the article was to show that there are all kinds of sentences handed down for all sorts of gun charges, even for convicted felons. Therefore, you can’t assume that man snitched based on his sentence.
And for the record, I’m a fifth-generation ATLien. My grandmother went to Washington High School with Dr. Martin Luther King (so don’t ever test my A-Town pedigree, shawty!).

@twerkolator:
Your making my point money.. The Creative Loafing paper MAY report it, but you didnt copy the nonsense from the CL. You posted garbage printed in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Those who live in Atlanta know that those are two TOTALLY different papers. So go find some info reported by the CL and we can pick up on this convo again. And the article was a justification of his sentencing. Why?? Because everyone following the case who have common sense want to know HOW IN THE HELL did this kid basically walk on these heavy a** charges. So dont 100% believe what you read in the paper and add a bit of common sense into the equation. I bet you believe everything you read in that Georgia Social Studies book that they gave you to read at Washington High School too, huh? lol..I kid.

You go HARD!! I love it…. It’s so crazy to see that people get so wrapped up in “celebs” and start to beleive that they won’t do certain things…
Someone else commented and said that you never know what you will do until it is you. I agree, and the same goes for TI. He amy have rapped about “not sniching” but when it was him, the better choice may have been to do so. Hey, he has a lot to loose by doing years. But just like another person said, don’t rap about shit that you ain’t gonna live up to.

@CityBoyRadio:
Homie, you (and by co-signature, dickriding JoJO) are missing the whole point entirely. I’m not debating about whether Creative Loafing is more factual than the AJC. That’s a moot point and totally not related to the matter at hand.
I quoted the AJC article simply to illustrate that T.I.’s case and the related sentence is not an ANOMALY. As the examples from the piece clearly show, there are several other (more or less) similar cases where some have received more time than T.I. and some have received less. Therefore, you can’t automatically assume, based on the sentence he received, that he snitched.
But you clearly read too fast or don’t comprehend well because I didn’t say I went to Washington. I said my grandmother did.
Whatever…I don’t really give a shit if T.I. snitched or not. I just think it’s fucked up how niggas go around making accusations based on assumptions, ignorance, and no evidence.

I just see the blatant blasphemy in his statements as a testament to his affiliation with the illuminati. sine when does God “make” anyone commit sin? it makes you question what god he is referring too. certainly not the Lord Jesus Christ. if you read scripture (too lazy to pinpoint the exact scripture) it says something to the effect of you can’t do bad in order to create good out of it. My take on this is God ( the real one) is always gonna take a situation to serve his own purposes. so even as tip placates his illuminati masters with his empty rhetoric, God will certainly allow some disenfranchised youth to benefit from the gist of his message and hopefully not live a life of self-destruction. now , not to judge the man, but lets be real with ourselves, this man doesn’t care about actually uplifting anybody with his pep talks, he is just concerned with fulfilling his court mandated duties. because if he really did, he wouldn’t make the type of music he does/did because being relatively intelligent people on this site we all know that a 3:30 song on the radio played 20x a day will have a greater effect on a child’s psyche consciously and more important subconciously than a 5 minute pep talk. ya dig?

You want proof. T.I. testifying in that murder trial is your proof. Now I know you are going to say that was his best friend and that he was doing the right thing. Trust me, if he didn’t catch that gun case he wouldn’t have testified in that trial. That was part of his plead deal, along with Crime Stopper commercials, Community Service, Talking to the kids, and doing whatever else they say he need to do. So to any street nigger in ATL like a Jeezy or Shawty Lo here’s a TIP stay away from T.I. He still has a part of his committment left and that is to hang somebody ass out to dry. LMAO.
