Throwback footage of Common and No I.D. on Video LP
Posted by Mikey Fresh under things I like , videos[12] Comments
Mikey: Some vintage footage of Common Sense and No I.D. on an old BET show called Video LP. This was when he still dressed like an extra from New Jersey Drive. Also Lonnie peforms “Soul By The Pound”.
“I am a hard-core artist, I am hard core Hip Hop because hard core Hip Hop to me, means coming from your heart and putting your heart on that paper. Just being true to yourself and the streets, so I look at myself as being hard core for sure.”
(Much thanks to FSD)

Straight up, this just makes me miss hip hop. I know we all complain that it aint what it is and that it’s ‘lame’ to criticize the new stuff, but it’s just not on the same level.
I was watching that video, and my mind immediately went to this:

I had alot of love and respect 4 Common during this time in the beginning of his career, he was soooo original and being himself. Now hes on some Qtip bohemian shit. Im 4 evolving, but u gotta stay true to really being yourself.. No biting styles or personas

LMAO !! thats wat im talkin bout, lol Common been confused since his 2nd album Resurrection. He came out hardcore/B-boy and since 94 started rhyming, dressin like on sum early Qtip, De La Soul shitt. Dont get me wrong hes lyrically nice and tries 2 be positive, but damn Com be yaself. U backslide on ya origin, which was reppin da streets of Chicago.
