I’m so glad you had the guts to say that…is that the popular opinion on these two? I’ve always been curious as to how they are perceived by the youth of America..I got the impression that just because they were affiliated with MLK that they were some kind of sacred cows where you weren’t allowed to say anything against them even if you were in the right..and even if everyone agreed with you no-one would admit it for fear of being seen to go against them..

We live in a different world now. Hov is thoroughly legitimized at this point. If salacious Bill Riley-esque headlines were effective, Obama maybe wouldn’t be president now. His connections with Weather Underground alum are far more damning than one with Ludacris or Jay-Z. At the same time though, rappers do kind of cheapen his image by getting all up in it. That said, Jeezy’s song is growing on me… except the part about e-mailing Jesus and CCing Allah, etc. Corny.

yeah, thats what we need, rappers tryin to rap about progress in the world. Then going back to the mostly unprogressive world of mainstream rap to spit the same unprogressive raps about degrading women, selling and doing drugs, and using the money in an un-progressive way like buying diamonds and jewelry. this will be a story on Fox News soon. i can see the headline now “obama supported my drug dealer rappers”. Thats the thing with most rappers these days, they need to learn that theres “a time and place” and how to be humble and know “when not to say something”.

I don’t want to hear a bunch of racists (and extremely right wing rush limbaugh/sean hannity types) who would never vote for a non-white person talking about how much progress “we’ve” made as a country when they had no hand in facilitating the damn change just to prove some small minded point about race relations.
