The Roots make debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

I hear some people saying it’s not a good look for the Roots or they are moving backwards in their career, but I beg to differ. This new position doesn’t take anything away from The Roots’ musical integrity.

i don’t have a problem seeing the roots get some exposure on national television every night. however, not to be deemed as a “hater,” i just don’t see this show being on for very long….jimmy fallon just isn’t funny, and i predict the show will tank and be replaced be either another late-night show, or reruns of friends or something.

Okay, that last clip was funny, but there’s no Roots crew up in there.

@Palko
They said the same exact thing about Conan Obrien back when he took over for David Leterman in 1993. 16 years later he’s hosting The Tonight Show. If NBC sticks with him(wich they will because they have no other choice) he’ll find an audiance, he’s not hillarious but like Conan he’s very likable which is all you really need.

I don’t think they are compromising ish. What they are doing is earning a paycheck. I wonder if those complaining bothered to even purchase their last album or pay to catch them on tour.
They do the best hip hop show hands down btw.

sideshowRaheem-
I know what you’re saying about Conan…I really didn’t think he was funny when he first came up, either, but now he’s hands down one of the greats of late night. I don’t know about the material he was putting out prior to his talk show, but I feel like Jimmy has a little more public track record of being lame. Every single one of his “movies” were absolute flops, and I can’t even think of one SNL skit that I gave the energy to chuckle at. IMO, he’s a poor man’s Chris Kattan, and even that isn’t something anyone should ever aspire to be.
In short, I’m very curious to see if he’s still doing this 12 months from now. If he is, more power to him, and it just means that the Roots Crew will still be doing their thing nightly, which I’m all for.

The show was awkward, I don’t like Jimmy in late night but who knows what happens. This is good for the Roots though. National exposure every day is an awesome thing.

The roots have a lot of respect in the music business. I can see Travis Barker being comfortable going to Fallon with those guys there. Not to mention Jay, Eminem, Prince and a host of others.
