“The NeverEnding Story”: Soulja Boy vs Ice T part 3 plus more
Posted by Miss Info under beef , things I ehh.... , videos[51] Comments
And I wish I was talking about that weird fantasy movie and that awesome Limahl song….but no…this is all about the Tyranny of the Youth…
I can barely believe it, but Ice-T actually recorded a rebuttal to Soulja Boy’s response to his original video diss. Ice-T retracts his pedophilic comment, but still blasts SB and then even brings out his own son for added measure. I’m not going to act like I actually watched it.
I was more interested in Kanye West’s opinion on the whole thing. I’m sure some folks are shocked by it, but this is the same guy who said T-Pain was something like the most influential artist in music today….if you hear all those synthesized hooks out there, maybe he had a point. Anyways, ‘Ye blogged on the Ice T vs Soulja Boy war of words and said this.
“Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be. He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song. He had all of America rapping this summer. If that ain’t Hip Hop then what is? A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain’t even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it’s 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit? Niggas always talk about the golden age but for a 13 year old kid, this is the golden age!!!
(more after the jump)
That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning… that’s Nas level shit… he just put it over some steel drums which is also some Nas shit if you had the 2nd album cassette with the bonus track “Silent Murder” on it. In closing… new niggas get ya money$$$$$$$$$$ Keep this shit fresh and original…. ain’t no fuckin’ rules to this shit and that’s what real hip hop is to me.”

ice t is a legend and a hip hop immortal but he made himself mortal when he said something about soulja boy. why would he even respond to a question about soulja boy? and now to get in a war of words with the worlds worst rapper is taking more cool points away from ice.
as for kanye. we all love him but we know he’s crazy as hell. he got a slight point, but… nah. soulja boy is garbage.

OK I tried to sway myself from commenting at quarter to 8 because I didn’t wanna feel like this was an addiction but I had to click “Read more”. While I agree that the lil dude must be commended for creating his own sound and definitely putting a dent in Ice T to the point he had to respond (and look even more out of touch by wearing a Iverson jersey and rubbing his new dome as a way of reminding cats he cut the sherm perm). Calling this kid’s accomplishments “Nas-level” is where I draw the line Ye.
Nas made a timeless record that could not be duplicated and was a launching pad for an era that ushered in the next generation of the genre. We will remember “Crank Dat” much the way we remember the Macarena. I can still respect what the kid put in without clouding my vision but let’s at least call it what it is and move forward. We are further suffocating the music by making these unreal comparisons.
Now I’m going back to bed.

Damn everyone so damn emotional, every rapper got haters for days.
I commend Souja Boy for creativity and doing his thing. The “Crank Dat” was funny when it came out.
He’s a young dude what could he possibly do to hip-hop. At the end of the day whether y’all like it or not he’s album did well and had a feel good vibe to it.
Personally I prefer that hustler music I get from Dipset, G-Unit, Cash Money, Jay Z e.t.c. so I ain’t trippin on Soulja Boy like Yuuuuu!!!

ICE T truthfully the only reason we like you, is because of coco. How the fuck you start a beef with a 17 year old kid for one. Then have your son get involved, like the lil nigga dont be dancing to the shit. How do you get credit for saying that, you stooped really low on this one. nigga if you dont like it dont listen to it. Its evident you listen to the shit. soulja got the whole world bumping to his shit. Nigga im sorry to say ice t the only ice that was bumping was cube. Stop having your law and order partners calling the stations like a lil dick rider saying how we getting at Ice T. WE NOT GETTING ON HIM AND WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED DICK RYDER WE ARE GETTING ON HIM FOR STOOPING SO LOW TO START A BEEF WITH A 17 YR OLD.

I wrote this in regard to Kanye’s statement, yesterday.
“I think this is the most unfounded statement I have ever read about hip hop. These are two artist, from a second [or even third] generation of an artform that started from a culture. I am sad to say, as much as you may like their music, they don’t necessarily represent that culture.
Soulja Boy and his Macarena-esque “Superman” have undoubtedly set a new benchmark for the future of the music industry. I mean 3 million ringtones sold is going to make investors and the “money” in the industry listen. There is no way to sell 3 million of anything and not be paid attention to. But the issue to me is culture. Songs like this pop dance single AREN’T hip hop in my opinion. While it could be argued that he is bringing the party back, he is only bringing it back to the under 18 crowd, who I think may be too young to ingest hip hop when they aren’t bred in it.
Kanye West and his larger than life epic productions are a far cry from BDP’s basement, 4 track sound. Even his dustier sample sounds don’t have the feeling you get when a Premier beat drops. The clean hyper stylized production is actually the SAME EXACT thing that never allowed Puffy any [hood] musical credibility. Remember laughing at “Shiny suit rappers”? Now everyone and their mother seems to be trying to be one.
I don’t know. Hip hop is a reflection of the generally unheard voice of urban experience. It should reflect such experience and even be misunderstood by the general populace at times. This popular bullshit these dudes are putting out is made for My Super Sweet 16 and parties where dudes wear yatch shoes. Something isn’t right, if you ask me…”
Honestly, after hearing Ice-Ts rebuttal, and retraction of the suck a dick statement, I couldn’t POSSIBLY cosign his argument more….

Everyone needs to cut this Soulja Boy kid some slack. The days of being a talented lyricist are over and us old heads better ge used to it. Other Nas, Jay, Mos, Talib, The Roots, Lupe and Kanye there aren’t to many real hip hop artist that the mainstream audience is aware of. I admit that i’m one of the hip hop fans that misses the old days but this is a new generation and this is what the public wants to hear. If the public did not want to hear this music they would buy 3 million ringtones or however many downloads these songs get. This kid is doing something positive in his life and i think that all things aside this is something that most people (especially from the bottom) would appreciate and support. Is his music making our society any better? No probably not. But he has made a positive contribution and is probably helping those around him. What the f**k are you doing?

@ #14 the man – good looking out, B
man hip hop heads are funny, everybody talk about where is the real hip hop and they continue to prophesy the demise of the genre while their favorite rapper is starving cause all you so-called hip hop ole school heads aint buying records… but you hate on a 17 yr. old who aint selling dope or talking about being a D boy (which was all Ice T did for the most part, and I jammed his first 3 albums..:the rest was garbage!)
So what, dude made a silly lil song about a dance and cuttin’… we all know dude doesn’t have lyrics, but unlike most of his detractors he made more money in 1 year off being wack while you and your favorite rapper are pissed off looking for a job whining about high gas prices and that the record label didn’t push their album…
the really sad thing when you boil it all down is that we still continue to hate ourselves as a people (willie lynch syndrome) This whole argument is no different than the David Banner and Al Sharptom deal not too long ago… our so called leaders talk down on the younger generation cause they can’t relate…
yall got me preaching, its just amazing to me how the genius in what this kid has done gets lost in the fact that he aint droppin’ science with witty metaphors and wordplay…yall better wake up and realize that this game (life) is about holding down your own and right Soulja Boy holding his entire family down, got his own record label and will probably cake up more off Crank Dat than your favorite rapper did in the last 5 years…
stop hating yourself!

I can’t beleive Ice threatened Soulja Boy with the indirect “can I get a little help here folks plea”, “When you go against me you go against the whole WestCoast”
C’mon Ice, fall back your old school and you know how beef goes it never ends until you both agree to squash it.
All he had to say is, “I didn’t mean it in that context, this is what I meant and you gotta do better, aiight pimpin 1,” then I wouldn’t be sitting here laughing at him.

HI HATERS!
None of you can speak for Hip-Hop like you own the shit! We do what we want to do and that is Hip-Hop! KRS, Nas, Ice T, etc…. don’t define Hip-Hop! STOP TRYING TO DEFINE HIP-HOP! As far a lyrics goes, lyrics alone do not make a HOT Record or HOT Music! Hip-Hop is Music first! If Nas can rap as if he is a roach why can’t Soulja Boy do his thing? Everyone is not going to make a CD with bitches on the front cover holding guns like Ice T, or sounding like a fake Jamaican like KRS! Some Jamaicans thought that KRS was wack! Hip-Hop is creative and every Artist has the right to decide what is Hip-Hop to them! If Hip-Hop is dead why is Nas still recording? Soulja Boy is HOT and had one of the Biggest songs out period! The kids like that shit and if some of you spent more time with your kids you would see that! MC Hammer was also very entertaining for the Kids, but you had dudes like MC Search hating and he was as lame as they come! MC Search still had the right to make his Music just like Souja Boy or any other Artist! The old days of Hip-Hop produced plenty of garbage but everyones memory is bad! Mind your Biz and DO YOU!

First off, I agree that Soulja Boy is being picked on a bit. Hip Hop ahs been dumbed down for a minute. The real arguement is there isn’t as much diversity in Hip Hop like it was in ‘96. You had every avenue covered in hip hop. NWA was able to exist with MC Hammer, Kid N Play was able to exist with Onyx, Das Efx with Bone, Twista with Scarface, Luke with Redman and so on. There really isn’t any diversity in hip hop and it’s stagnant. As for Kanye saying Ice-T isn’t relevent, that shows just how ignorant he is. Ice-T has grown beyond the mic, just like Ice Cube. Granted, Ice-T was wrong for coming at Souljah Boy like that, he’s only 17. We don’t expect a 17 year old to be a lyrical genius. We didn’t expect it from lil Bow Wow or ABC or even Kris Kross. I think that is really where the legends and masses who are “hating” on the new jacks are really hating.

so the judge is people who haven’t grown pubic hairs…thats the judge of whats “hot” ?
what ever….I m not here to be like WE SHOULD ALL BE STUCK IN 96 with ecko hoodies and tim boots… as well I m not here to say a songs popping when its not …..I agree with Kanye …hip hop should move forward to something different ….but from the sounds of it souja boy is taking it the other direction ….poor quality music that sounds like it was made on a 1989 casio keyboard …..if you think thats “hot” thats your decision….. …I m sure souja boy worked his ass of in marketing his work to kids ….but as he grows hopefully so will his music or he wont last …..or maybe he will who knows ….this world is so confused in what they want to hear …. I have no right saying whats “hip hop” and whats not but I do have the right to an opinion about what I like in a song and what i dont …..word up

Young MC ‘92=Soulja Boy ‘08
I dont buy Soulja Boys shit, but im glad theirs a counterbalance. For every Joell theirs a Soulja Boy, dudes need to relax a bit and start havin fun with shit..I listen to cats my boys would nevvvver listen to, too bad, its not a buffet, its hip hop, you cant pick and choose. Dont like it, dont listen, and do something to counter-act the wackness.
2 things quick:
1) As ridiculous as this is, for all we know, Soulja Boy could grow as an artist (since he is only 17) and drop something on us all we didnt see coming…no one was calling wayne the greatest rapper ever when he was with the Hot Boys. Just sayin, rappers grow, content changes. If it does, is he then hip hop? But he wasn’t when he dropped Superman? just somethin to think about or whatever
2) Before Kanye commented, I had made the comment to someone, Soulja Boy should name his next album “I AM HIP HOP” just to make haters mad…seems Yeezy agrees with your boy.

Wow! this actually got to me. I’m a big fan of Ice T, I remember buying his first album and hiding it from my parents in the 80s.
Soulja Boy is just an easy target. There are sooo many other rappers
Ice could’ve went after. So what he made a dance tune, There has always been a corny party rap on the radio every year since the humpty dance, and funky cold madina. Telling a young kid who’s making moves to “eat a d*ck” is wrong. What the hell do you want him to rap about? should he steal classic verses? or just rap about guns and sh*t?

Im not a fan of Soulja Boys music but Ice T was just wrong and immature for his comments. Just like Soulja Boy said, how do u expect young people to respect you if you make comments like that? ice T is washed up and a dude like you should just stay behind the scenes. Hip Hop today has many kinds Hyphy, House, Crunk, snap, Nas’s kind of hip hop and amoung that is Soulja Boy’s kind of Hip hop. This doesnt mean that Hip Hop is dead it means Hip Hop is expanding! You would only be ignorant to say that one song killed hip hop…

@rese….agreed. I thought Crank Dat was catchy but everything else I heard from SB sounded exactly the same…but exponentially more annoying.
However…for everyone who complains that hip hop is so wack now…
there is way more “wack” hip hop now, because there’s just way more hip hop now. There’s more of every type of hip hop, there’s more access to all those different types, and there’s more access to making music on every level.
(So with all that increase volume of product, it becomes a little more difficult to sift through and find what you like)

This is such a non story. Souljah Boy is borderline retarded and nothing he says holds weight. Next up, if Ice T disses you…you take the L and do you. That is all. Kanye can say whatever he wants about the situation, either way who cares because it’s resolved:
Ice T: Hip Hop Legend
Soulja Boy: The 2007-08 version of J-Kwon
Now how about somebody asking Ego Trip to produce a Hip Hop related show that isn’t a complete mockery of the art form so it can be marketed to people that don’t give a fuck about the culture? I’m just sayin’

First off I’ve been listening to hip-hop “FOREVER”, since Sugar Hill Gang had a 14 minute songs on vinyl……..that’s right vinyl! When mix tapes were actually made on tapes. First off yeah, a lot of these are dressing retro and all that, but we did the same thing in our day as well. When Kwame was rocking polka dots and setting a so called trend, my dad already did that in his day and gave my older brother all his old shirts to rock. When you’ll diss Kanye, Soulja Boy, or anybody else for wearing white shades or the like……..then it just goes to show that you don’t know your hip-hop history. Watch the “Planet Rock Video”, and see how bugged out those guys dressed. That’s HIP-HOP! Watch “Beat Street” and you’ll see the real “HOOD”! You’ll see that the youth didn’t have much, and they had to create their own “FUN”. Rap, Break Dancing, Graffiti, B-Boys and B-Girls, “FUN” being the key word. The hip-hop movement was founded on it, and it was cool to dance or even make a song about. I loved the wop and was doing it at every block party with everyone else that summer. Anytime someone is having fun then it’s not hip-hop and it’s wack. My nephews and nieces love to crank that Soulja Boy, and I’m sure everyone else here’s family loved it to. So my thing if it put a smile a\on your family’s face and brought them joy and good times……..how can it really be wack? If you don’t listen to it on your off time that’s all good, but it is what it is. Jim Jones says he’s not a rapper all the time, but he continues to put out albums all the damn time, yet Ice-T gives him a pass. How can we be mad at a 17 year kid who’s making money, and having fun? Now if he had a hot song talking about how much drugs he sold and people he killed that was ok, then things would be all good…….and the world would love him. But then again you’d probably be calling him a fake ass gangster who’s fronting and has never been in the streets. Rapped about what he knew about and that was having fun. He created a buzz for himself, which goes to show you he’s business minded. He seems like an all around good kid…what’s wrong with that. Most important to me, as a young black male he’s looking better and more mature than other twice his age. Yeah he had jokes on Ice-T, but he had a great message in there. Ice-T! Motherfucker, HELP the younger generation, and if you don’t like it do something about it or shut the fuck up. I remember the first time I saw Ice-T was on Video Music Box, and in the video there was a cameo by Big Daddy Kane(Who used to dance heavy by the way, and is considered by many one of the illest mc’s to touch the mic), and I thought this dude is wack. Ice-T lucked out as far as becoming a legend cause even when it was his hay day he was wack. Who put’s him in any top mc list? Really! I mean other people who can’t rap shouldn’t say anything about anything involving hip-hop and skills. Ice-T is still my dude though, but help MotherFucker! Let’s uplift and stop trying to knock each other down. Soulja Boy, I honestly probably wouldn’t by your album, but I respect everything you did and wish you the best and continued success. Let’s teach the youth to start having fun again and get the fuck out of this negative ass GHETTO mentality. It’s the GHETTO cause bum ass folk make it that way, so if we really want to make things better for the next generation…….Let’s teach them how to stop fronting and have fun. Fun keeps you young and healthy, and I don’t see anything wrong with that. Hip-Hop started on FUN and we need to bring it back. See links below for a little Hip-Hop history. Party people!

@ I AM HIP HOP – great post bro’ you def did the knowledge n that…
Overall I am glad to see more people realizing how foolish Ice T was in his comments and actions!
Info was right too, the barriers to entry are quite low now so there is a much larger amount of music being made and distributed than ever before, so you will never like all the stuff you hear.
Lastly, it can’t be stressed enough that we should stop stealing music (illegal downloading) and bootlegs and actually buy music, that way your favorute lyrical rapper will move units and you can stop crying about who is wack or not!

Lol. I was with Kanye until he said
“That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning… that’s Nas level shit” – WTF?!?! Ok so what is the hidden meaning behind
“Nope, You Can’t Do It Like Me
Hoe, So Don’t Do It Like Me
Folk, I See You Tryna Do It Like Me
Man That Shit Was Ugly”
Then he compared him to – Again WTF?!?!
Kanye I know you are all hyper and spontaneous and wutnot but this is too much. How you gonna Slander Nas’s good name like this? This should be HipHop blasphemy.

Soulja boy is a new level of hip hop. We need to have something for the new generation to relate to because we didn’t grow up when Ice-t did. No disrespect to Ice-t or anything. I mean Soulja boy maybe a no Nas but he is new school. I think all this beef needs to stop between rappers. Can’t they just make money and do positive stuff for their co-rappers?

So what does soulja boy rap about??? Dumb mess like Booty Meat, Crank Dat, and Soulja Girl on some R&B twist… And what makes it even worse is when he tries to act like he a true thug with songs like shoot out and pistol play… Now do real thugs really dance and hop around like what i see in his videos?? If he is keeping it true to himself and his gay lookin style or what eva… Then why would he feel the need to put on this fake gangsta image??? Hmmm… Seems like he being phony to me… Maybe thats the reason why Ice T dissed him so hard… Soulja boy has been dissed by some of the biggest icons and legends in hip hop… Because he is f***ing up Hip Hop’s legacy… And look at all the disses he gets on U Tube… I dont respect him or his music… just my right to my opinion.. I dont feel that wack B.S…
