The Lyor Cohen Rumor Mill: Irv Gotti, Drake, and Kanye in the Mix?
Posted by Mikey Fresh under hmmm....?[6] Comments
There’s been a lot changes within the major hip-hop record labels in 2012. Earlier in the year, we saw Joie Manda leave Warner to take the position as President of Def Jam, and then Lyor Cohen resigned as chairman of Warner Music. And mostly recently, Warner’s prez Todd Moscowitz also left, but he has not yet announced his next move. Right now, the rumor is churning with bits of what Lyor and Todd may do next, but there’s also another interesting name mentioned in the mix: Irv Gotti. Yes, the mastermind behind Murda Inc, and the young hustler who campaigned for DMX, Jay and Ja in those early Def Jam days. According to the NY Post, Gotti maybe joining Cohen to form a new management company. We hear that they have been quietly talking to Kanye West and Drake as clients.
Check out a recent photo of Irv and Drake together and a few classic Murda Inc Moments after the jump…
Fun Fact: Lyor Cohen was in Irv Gotti’s wedding party back in the day….along with drug lord Kenneth “Supreme” Mcgriff.

One would think that this would be a good thing for Ja once he’s free, no? Considering he and Irv are still on great terms, should this deal go through, Ja would naturally have a landing place and also have a few good allies (i.e. Drake and Kanye of they join along).

I’ve longed to see Irv back in the game. I dont think at this point he’s better suited to direct the current hip hop talent pool. Its an different era and I wonder how today’s acts would respond to Irv if he’s still the same guy business wise.

Irv assisting Lyor is going to bring back that raw originality & quality that the ppl been asking for ” THAT STREET SHIT “. As far as mgmt for Drake (Drizzy needs real ppl around him) Lyrically Drizzy is no joke. All of that singing shit is cool displaying his versatility but ppl getting tired of that shit!
