Its scary to think how overpaid alot of folks are in Hollywood making movies. I just watched Nacho Libre on cable, and even though I was busy eating dinner, and thumbing through the travel section of the NYT, and checking my blackberry, and having a conversation with another person….I still had the fight the urge to just stand up, throw my plate at the TV and walk the hell out. Just bad.

Luckily…its also scary to think how talented some undiscovered folks are making movies (or even music etc) on their own. Here is 2003 NYU-film school project called five deep breaths, made by young director Seith Mann , starring another unknown actor Jamie Hector. The insightful NYMag Culture Vulture blog, says that after seeing this student film on the festival circuit, The Wire creators gave Man the chance to direct some episodes of the show, and they discovered the perfect match for the role of druglord Marlo Stansfield. The short flick is really good and Hector is mesmerizing as always.

NOTE: for anyone who, like me, waits to watch the new Wire eps on “HBO On Demand” at midnight on sunday….Episode 3. It’s really interesting to see how someone so in charge and powerful in their own environment, can be almost pathetic when they’re a fish out of water. Also, I have 2 words for my thoughts about the ending. Chancletas. Linen.
