Lunch with Joe Budden & Tahiry
Part I: Tahiry’s First Interview

Joe Budden: I’ve been up since 8 in the morning screaming “ahh your first interview today!” I’ve been trying to give her all the support in the world. She said “fuck you, I’m in bed. Get out of my face.”

Tahiry: I didn’t even say all that. It wasn’t even like “ooh first interview”. I’m sleeping and he’ll take the covers off and be like “oooh first interview, that’s what it’s all about, yea!”. Or I get up and trying to get dressed and he’s right behind. I’m like “why are you breathing on me?!”
Joe Budden: Yo you are really raw. You will tell whatever happens. You don’t filter shit.
Tahiry: I filter! You make everything so “Joe Budden-ish ”. Joe Budden: So “Joe Budden-ish”? They don’t know what that means.

Tahiry: Ok, his family is mostly men. So all the Buddens, every time they’re telling a story, it could’ve been the smallest story and they make it into some big fucking ordeal. So I say “oh you’re such a Budden”. So he’s a Budden. Cleans shit up and makes it into something big.
Culture VI: Would you like a television show?
Tahiry: I’d love to have a reality TV show. *turns to Joe* What??
Joe Budden: Why you looking at me all the time?
Tahiry: Why are you making faces??
Joe Budden: I’m here to make faces!
Tahiry: I’m gonna sit you in the corner! I’m in the hospitality industry. I like restaurants, lounges, I’ll probably do something like that next.
Culture VI: Do you want to do modeling or own a business?
Tahiry: I’d do both. One hand washes the other. They’d help each other.
Culture VI: Are you ready for this though? Walking through the club, you were getting stopped for pictures and everything.
Tahiry: It’s a lot because it’s happening fast. But like anything else, you just throw yourself out there and figure it out. Like my bartending. I didn’t think I was capable. I’m not much of a people’s person. I’m shy. So for me, it was like “Do I really have to talk to this girl? How do I break the ice?”
Culture VI: How is it now? Do you get recognized a lot at work?
Tahiry: Yea. Probably about 4 to 5 guys a night come up to me and say “Is that you?!”. On Saturday, I had a guy freak out. He was like “oh my God, oh my God, oh my God! Do people in here know?” And I’m like “Know what? What are you talking about?” And he’s like “Do they know? Do people in here know? Cus you’re famous!” And I’m like “I’m not famous, and who are you talking about, first of all?” And he’s like “Is your boyfriend famous?” and I’m like “Well, maybe.” And he just bugged out. So I’m like “Calm down. Can I get you a Heinekin?” and he just watched me in a pair of shorts all night! It’s the first person that bugged out. Usually people just ask or tell me.
Culture VI: Was he an internet soldier?
Tahiry: He said “I live on Worldstar. I know who you are”. And then when I smiled he said “That’s you!”
Culture VI: Are you okay with Joe getting so much attention from fans?
Tahiry: Yea, I’m fine with it. Like I said, there’s limits. I’m dating a rapper. I didn’t walk into the relationship and not know that things like that would happen. There’s limits to it. But Joey’s in control of that. So the beef is with Joey. A fan is a fan. A groupie’s a groupie.
Joe Budden: My phone is her phone.
*Joe’s phone rings, Tahiry looks over at Joe’s phone*
Joe Budden: Damn! Did you get that? Don’t edit shit!
Tahiry: Nah, don’t leave that in cus then bitches is gonna wanna call to see if I’m doing this and I don’t even break a sweat for them.
Joe Budden: Haha, “I don’t even break a sweat for them”, right baby?? *laughs and high-five’s Tahiry*
Culture VI: Were you a fan of Joe Budden before y’all met?
Tahiry: I loved Pump It Up. Was I a die-hard fan? I thought he was very attractive. I listened to his tracks. But I really wasn’t a die-hard Mood Muzik, Mouse fan.
Culture VI: Are you a hip-hop fan? Do you really listen to the tracks or does he have to explain them?
Tahiry: He explains them. I ask him to. I live hip-hop at home. When he’s working on a record, I have to hear it over and over. In the car, at home, in bed, over and over. I’m not feeling every record. But after he beats me down with them every day, I know the words and I understand his train of thoughts. I let him do his music. I let him come home when he’s done with the music. He’s in the studio, he’s dealing with the record label, all the drama. When you come home, you wanna come home. So I don’t get beaten down by the music.
Culture VI: Are you a sounding board for his music?
Tahiry: Yea. He’ll play it out loud and I’m like….
Joe Budden: That shit is wack!
Culture VI: Does she ever give you advice that makes you change a record?
Joe Budden: Nah. Not that makes me change a record.
Culture VI: She never says anything that makes you say like “Wow, she’s right”?
Joe Budden: No. My process when I play my music over and over and over is to work out the kinks. She might say something that I’m already thinking in my head. But nah, mostly all she says is “eh, that shit is wack”. And I say “nah, but you don’t see the vision. You gotta hear it with the music. You’re not an artist.”
Culture VI: You don’t ever just tell him it’s dope to get it over with?
Tahiry: Nah, I keep it real.
Joe Budden: And she says *in aweful Spanish accent* “Quit complaining! You’re complaining again”. I’m not complaining!
Tahiry: That is not my accent! I keep it real. If a song is not a hit, it’s not a hit. If I don’t wanna hear it, I don’t wanna hear it.

Joe Budden: Thank you baby! *kisses* Every time she turns on the radio, she says *in aweful Spanish accent* “Ooh, if only I could sing. I would sing a hit song”.
Tahiry: You’re making me sound Chinese and shit!
Culture VI: Do you like all the attention that comes with dating a rapper?
Tahiry: No. I would say younger Tahiry – love it! Older Tahiry? I start hyperventilating sometimes. I walked into his video shoot, and he can tell when I’m embarrassed, and I had to walk into a bathroom and breath cus everybody was just “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God”. It was just a little too much. People were just staring, and that’s a little too much. Older Tahiry likes her privacy, somewhat. Which is contradictory to this whole Joe Budden TV stuff. But like I said, it’s kinda comfortable cus we’re at home and he’s around and I just feel okay.
Joe Budden: It’s casual, it’s normal. That’s the normal dynamic for us. Nothing is scripted. It’s really just how we communicate.
Culture VI: Are you guys talking to anyone? VH-1? About a show?
Tahiry: No. We’d love to. Right camera? Love to!

Joe Budden: She’s not talking to anyone.
Tahiry: Oh, you are! You know what? I’m done with you! He’s lying! Well whatever. If you are, great. Don’t be keeping things from me, alright, and then during an interview come and tell me!
Joe Budden: I see a beautiful face and a big ass dollar sign right here! Ching, ching!
Tahiry: Ha Ha Ha – I’ll be seeing the dollars!
Culture VI: In fairness, it is called “Joe Budden TV”.
Tahiry: So what? Then he needs to do an episode and go find another girl.
Joe Budden: I told her that! That’d make for good TV!
Tahiry: Yea, good TV, but then what?
Joe Budden: I’m trying to think of where I want this to go.
Tahiry: What to go?
Joe Budden: You!
Tahiry: Oh my God, this is my career police! “This is where I want this to go!”
