During SXSW 2015, T-Pain dragged me out to some far off spa & resort in Barton Creek, Austin. Nearly 40 minutes out from the downtown area, Teddy Pendergrass preferred to be away from the commotion while preparing for his 42-song Fader Fort set. As we casually spoke about his upcoming The Iron Way mixtape, Pain dropped a bombshell on me.
Watch the interview below…
T-Pain has two albums worth of material locked and loaded for his upcoming double mixtape, The Iron Way, with DJ Drama and DJ Trendsetter. Set to be released online this Friday (March 27), Teddy says he had over 30 songs ready to go before he even stepped to the DJs.
“I think on this mixtape I really just enjoyed doing it so much,” T-Pain tells VIBE. “I made all brand new songs. I didn’t put a bunch of throwaways on there and make a mixtape.”
The upcoming project features guest appearances from the likes of Bun B, Big K.R.I.T., Big Cash from Nappy Boy, Shawn J from Field Mob and one very special feature.
“I actually have Aaliyah on a song,” T-Pain reveals to VIBE. “These are vocals people never heard before. They were actually doing an Aaliyah album a few years ago. They told me do two songs and I could pick one to keep.”
Pain says the song is titled “Girlfriends” and is a slower track, but definitely not a ballad.
