“I want y’all to understand the movement and opportunity that we all have. Reebok is definitely back. I am happy to be the creative director globally that puts me up there with the Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfelds. To have that position coming from the South Bronx…I tell everyone that the sky is not the limit, it’s just the view.“
Miss Info: Last night, Reebok Classics threw a huge party in midtown Manhattan to celebrate their partnership with Swizz Beatz and the launch of their “Reethym of Lite” campaign. Yours truly and Mikey were there early because I had the pleasure of chatting with the celebrity guests for Reebok’s own interview series (which will be posted on Reebok’s website soon). Much love to Justin and Matty from Reebok, Nicole/M&CSaatchi, Casey/KidsWithCandy, and the Influencers documentary crew). I love how this Reebok team is pulling in talented people and taking risks ; )
Back to the party: the space was packed to the rafters with Swizz’s friends and family: wife Alicia Keys, mentor Clive Davis, uncle Darrin Dean, Pharrell and his lovely lady, Diddy (which Cassie in the cut), the talented Verbal and his wife Yoon (more on Verbal’s Reebok venture soon!), Teyana Taylor, Lloyd Banks, Maino, Nore, Busta Rhymes, Red Cafe, Selita Ebanks, director Chris Robinson, O’Neal McKnight, and more. There were also tons of music, media and fashion industry vips as well. Check out photos of the partygoers and their colorful ‘fits here.
Mikey caught video of Swizz’s speech to the crowd (above) and more performance footage….
After the jump
Swizz brings Lloyd Banks out for “Start It Up” and more at Reebok’s “Reethym of Life” Party
The story behind the dancers from many different disciplines, all recruited for the “Reethym of Life” video.
The set designers create a “matrix of light and shadow” for the “Reethym of Life” commercial. That 3D “R” is pretty friggin’ cool. Verbal mentioned at the party that he and a partner named Pablo from Paris have also launched a 3D light display company. You’ll get a closer look when his Japan-based Reebok collaborations roll out. I’ll have more details in a separate post.

“creative director ” is a ten dollar word for ” Head of advertising”. come on now swizz yes I get the picture you’ve come along and you deserve every bit of success, But to compare yourself to a Marc Jacobs especially with a Reebok brand cause you’re head of advertising? hes bugging. That’s like the dept. head of def jam marketing and sales saying hes Russel Simmons.
However I do think he will take the brand in a positive direction, it needs a new outlook, looking forward to his strategies.

i dont know….i’ve spoken to Reebok people and they’re really letting him make some huge decisions. Including one that’s coming up….we’ll all hear about soon.

Congratulations Swizz, but we all know that this will be long forgotten a year from now. Nobody is going to wear Reebok. Fila wasnt back, Converse wasnt back (except for Chucks, which never left), and Reebok wont be back. Throw as many parties as you want to.

He should say he’s “aspiring” to be like Jacobs & Lagerfeld, because he hasn’t put in the years, or proven that he can play in that league. However, congratulations are in order!

You posted that quote, because it sounds crazy. Out of context it seems especially delusional.
Reebok is not LV and will never be. I realize that boasting is an integral part of Hip Hop culture. “Self Love” is a necessary way of building confidence when you’ve come from a place where no one gives you any support. At this point though, take a page from Hov’s book. Save the exaggeration for the rap songs.
I’m especially heated at Swizz because that Bonkers song he did is such garbage. He can’t rap. He’s a beast of a producer but you’d think someone would tell him, “yo, you don’t really sound that hot rhyming at that tempo.”
Much respect for all he’s accomplished though. It’s just I’m getting older and I have less tolerance for b.s.

“Everybody wanna critique from computers yet nobody’s creating.”

you hit the nail on the head. I do appreciate swiss is pushing boundaries its always good for the culture, but someone should draw the line if he wont do it. Bad choice of words but what makes it worse is i think he did it knowingly. Pharell has far exceeded him in the fashion world you dont hear him saying it puts him up there with versace

The Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfelds ain’t married to Alicia Keys.
That boy needs to get his priorities straight.

I get tired of Swizz doing interviews and sucking off Lagerfeld, Basquiat and Keith Haring etc. He never shouts Ralph Lauren, Cope2, or Seen UA and they’re from the Bronx. smdh.
