89 Tech 9. Columbia University college radio. The Stretch and Bobbito Show.
In my humble and very personal opinion, the greatest hip hop radio show ever. I haven’t heard every hip hop radio show, but my feelings of nostalgia and sentimentality trump all when it comes to how formative this show was in my relationship with hip hop music. I remember staying up all night tape-recording Stretch and Bob’s show, sometimes holding an antenna on a beat up boombox just so because the low-end of the dial meant the signal was weak. From 1990 to 1998, Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito, and often Lord Sear would play all the upcoming hip hop, trade mother jokes, and have emerging emcees on to freestyle their hearts out. From Nas to Organized Konfusion to Percee P to Lord Finesse to O.C. and more….
This was the heart of rap.

And tonight, as part of the New Museums’ 1993 exhibit, Stretch and Bob have reunited on WCKR for one more show. On Friday, they will also do a special chat with Sacha Jenkins at the New Museum. LEGENDARY.
