Dave Chappelle’s final night at Radio City Music Hall wasn’t the only place Yasiin Bey popped up this weekend; the elusive rapper made a surprise performance at Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing 25th anniversary block party in Bed-Stuy — the Brooklyn neighborhood were the movie was filmed — yesterday.
Bey delivered an on-the-spot freestyle, while Public Enemy also graced the stage to perform “Fight The Power.” Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle and Wesley Snipes were among the other celebrities in attendance. Barack and Michelle Obama even sent over a video message in support of Spike’s anniversary, with the POTSA revealing that he put on Do The Right Thing on their first date. Clearly, that was the right choice.
Following the celebrations, the block on Stuyvesant Avenue (between Lexington and Quincy) was officially renamed “Do The Right Thing Way.” What’s more, Spike is also planning to bring his iconic movie to Broadway.
