Snoop: All the ugly ladies in the house, be quiet!

(photo spotted at Mood blog)
Add Snoop to my wishlist of “Miss Info’s That’s What Really Grinds My Gears” segment. (Ok, so now we’ve got Mos Def, Prodigy, Snoop….definitely Kanye….who else….maybe Nore?)
Here’s a taste of Snoop’s kooky stream of consciousness rant on women, thanks to the friends at BET.com’s Hip Hop Vs. America blog.
“How many ugly women selling records? None! Only the pretty ones sell records. Beyonce, Mary J, Keyshia Cole, the ugly ones don’t sell. I ain’t gon say no names, but they don’t sell records. They just be singing their little hearts out, but they don’t get no sales, cause they ugly. Now, that’s my fault? I can see this on TV now: ‘Snoop Dogg called me, ugly.’ You beautiful on the inside, baby. What I wanna say to go on top of that, to the chocolate women, the dark-skinned women, I love ya’ll. I got a chocolate daughter at home. I always tell her chocolate is the best thing in the world….“
and then Snoop on women in hip hop videos….
“Hip-hop is not the stories. It’s not a soap opera. Hip-hop is not ‘The View.’ It’s not…’The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ Hip-hop is what it is. We have our certain views on women the way we do. It’s like Playboy. Do anybody got something to say about the way Playboy view women? They take their shirt off and show their t**ties. That’s the first way to get into Playboy. You gotta show Hugh Heffner your t**ties if you wanna get in Playboy. There’s nothing degrading about that, but at the same time, when we show women in videos, they have their clothes on. We don’t play videos on BET with women naked; we can’t get away with that. But it’s degrading what we’re doing, when in actuality, we’re giving these women a chance to shine. Now, if these women would become directors and depict women in a different light, then that would give them a different light as far as the way people view them.”

On the “pretty girls” comment. He makes you mad? You’re pretty cute yourself… you think this many people would be on your site if you were ugly?
Also, on the video chicks…. All these women are adults. If they don’t wanna flash they’re asses in the videos they don’t have to. They’re grown. As long as men get horny, there will always be ass in videos across all musical genres. Need I queue up an 80’s whitesnake video?

@jmack…hahaha, no Snoop doesnt make me mad, its his opinion and he backs it up. But you can’t be serious about the site! LOL, nobody comes here to see me! I’m only on the top in one photo that’s never changed in a year.
and i definitely think some of these gals do it to themselves, but there is some imagery i think is best left for adults not kids.

Once again, Snoop’s not using everyone’s favorite words but he is exactly right. Once women achieve more power and ownership in the industry then they can help sway perception.
Remember Snoop’s comments on Don Imus?
“[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We’re talking about ho’s that’s in the ‘hood that ain’t doing sh–, that’s trying to get a n—a for his money.”
Has anyone said it as succinctly?

@missinfo I agree about some of the imagery being best left for adults… but isn’t that the broadcast company’s responsibility to not let it air?
And if MTV turns around and says it’s the artists’ responsibility to make censor their videos I’ve got a few home videos I’d like to submit for their consideration that I think would make a great addition to their collection. I didn’t mean anyone comes here specifically to stalk you for your blog banner…
I’m just sayin’ do you really think you’d be as popular as you are if you weren’t a good lookin’ girl?

@jmack…well i hope so, because 80-90% of the work ive been doing for the past 10 years has either been printed on a page, heard thru a radio or posted on a website. As words. Not images.
(now if I was a better self-promoter, then maybe there’d be more combo words and images and then I’d maybe be more popular. I can admit that. Definitely image is the ultimate marketing tool. I’m just saying, I haven’t used it much. Or well. lol)

I have to say I am with snoop on this one. I don’t necessarily agree that only pretty women sell records (ie. Amy Winehouse) but at least he is being honest about the video girls and why he chooses the ones he does. Everyone has their biases (and plenty people are shallow about different things) criticizing him would just make people hypocritical.
But people want to blame entertainers (who for the most part are crazy as hell) for everything that is wrong with this or that.

I definately agree with Jmack on the Adult issue to an extent. These women are grown and they chose to put themselves in these videos.
The sad thing is that younger women want to be “video vixens” now. From myspace to how many pose for their pics in the club now. Lets be real, how many times have you seen women pose for pictures using the now infamous “booty shot”?
Who do we blame for that? The Artist or the companies that choose to market and continuously sell sex? The only thing I’d change is the how Snoop chooses his words. Sex sells, and when a woman shows something off or brings more attention to a certain product, it sells. The simplist products are sold using sex, and everytime you turn on the tv, there is a countdown of the hottest this celeb or that celeb. What we view as ugly is created through the media…..

@Miss Info – Most of us actually come here to read what you have to say. Although a pin-up section wouldn’t hurt.
I understand if you don’t want to compromise your integrity and would rather email me the bikini pics directly.

Snoop is a fool. Since when are Mary J. and Keyshia Cole anywhere near being close to almost pretty? lol Christina Milian and Amerie are gorgeous and they don’t sell. Amy Winehouse is selling and we all know what a physical disaster she is.
The thing I don’t get is his wife. How can u be married to Snoop? He’s such a clown lol.

Oooh my gggod,more dumb rappers!!!
The only woman that liked snoop before he started rappin was his wife.
Does anybody remember how timid and soft snoop looked in that deep cover and dre day video?
He looked like he was scared to look in the camera,LoL!
I totally believe suge was pimp smackin him around the deathrow offices back in the day.
Now he’s morphed himself into some kind of major player pimp because he’s taking advantage of rap groupies who have low self esteem.
now he’s some sort of authority on women,Lmao!!!
Dog,you not a player if you only scorin with rapper chasers.
Snoop is the same cat gettin mad flexin his bird chest talkin about dudes from NY shouldn’t be able to come to out west, shoot videos and steal they groupies.
of course he switched up and acted like its was all love(”you can’t spell the west without the e.s.”),but what kinda sh*t was that???
N*gga step yo game up..
Better yet, with all these Std’s floatin around, just stick to your wife and mistress.
Be a better example For your daughter.
These are the type of blackmen that your david geffens, and jimmy iovines force feeds the world, and more importantly OUR KIDS.
WANNA BE PIMPS…
no respect for our women what so ever.
if you wanna know what compelled don imus to feel so safe making those comments,Look no further than people like snoop(WANNA BE PIMP)and the crackers that aid and abet his stupidity.
Please believe me…
Don’t get me wrong,I like havin a good time and lookin at half naked women but wheres the balance that we had back in the day?
where the positive imagery?
where’s the social commentary?
where’s the creativity?
You mean to tell me all of us are reformed drug kingpins, thugs, coons and hoes…

lol. These dudes can’t be serious. If you’re thinking looks will get you anywhere in radio broadcasting, quit now.
Also, Info does great work. Personally, as pretty as she is, if the content wasn’t on point, I def. wouldn’t be visiting the site.
Wow……for the first time in my life, I understand why women would find those kinds of statements offensive. lol.

‘crackers that aid and abet his stupidity’
Oh good one. I kinda liked what you where saying until you came out with that racist bs.
I suppose all the problems in the world with black people are caused by the ‘crackers’? What is it with people like you?
Sorry Info, I know this isn’t the place to bash people.

i’m not mad at snoop either, but this is the kind of mindset that just really irks me. i don’t have a problem with grown women doing grown things, but the most messed up part is this idea that a woman’s capital (social/ economic worth or whatever) is inseparably linked to her appearance — and appearance, if you think about it, can be a completely arbitrary set of standards that can change at a moments notice (dark-skinned girls in/light-skinned out, big booties in, straight hair out…for example, etc and so forth)
i find it doubly unfair when i see all these busted-ass rappers (and i would definitely put snoop in that category) get props for — wow — the things they have to say and nobody goes, “i’m not gonna buy snoop’s album til he gains about 20 lbs, pumps some iron and fixes his face”.
snoop is right about it not really being rappers’ fault, though. it goes way beyond that. you see it from hip hop to politics… it’s kinda sad and disheartening sometimes…
that’s all

saigon rants about a lot of shit, too. although he might threaten to slap you. he’s one of those rappers that could actually be a grinder or an example of a grindee. in that category of “good rappers that say they’re for a positive movement, but still beef and fight other rappers. and shit.”
damn. i need a “what really grinds my gears” forum.

Miss Info is cute but I don’t come on here cause of that, I come cause she’s always got the scoop no-one else has and her writing is on point. I first HEARD her on Tim Westwood’s show here in the UK and that’s what lead me here.
Snoop makes some good points but I think people should understand that hiphop videos aren’t for children, it’s adolescent-adult entertainment for people with a measured view of the world.
Love what he says about women being video directors so that they can represent women the way they want to be represented.

completely off topic but did anybody read greg palast’s article on the outing of eliot spitzer? according to mr. palast there is a bigger reason as to why spitzer got exposed. it has something to do with the obscene amount of foreclosures of people’s homes.
read it here at

My Vote for Comment of the Day 3/14/08 goes to Cbroo….
“the most messed up part is this idea that a woman’s capital (social/ economic worth or whatever) is inseparably linked to her appearance — and appearance, if you think about it, can be a completely arbitrary set of standards that can change at a moments notice (dark-skinned girls in/light-skinned out, big booties in, straight hair out…for example, etc and so forth)”
HA! so true. Its like basing talent on what brand of jeans your wearing.
BUT I’d like to add that there is a standard of beauty that does transcend trends, and alot of times it is enhanced by talent or wit or skill. ie…Alicia is pretty but her singing while playing piano makes her beautiful. (in my opinion) Another example…Mariah Carey is totally mediocre looking, but she’s got a great voice and it enhances her overall attractiveness.
Now the ladies can take a little bit of comfort in the fact that nowadays, the superficial requirements are also hitting the guys harder too. If you listen to the past couple years of rap beef, all the insults are either snitch-based, bitch-based, or…..appearance based.
Hov is a camel. 50 is a rabbit. Pap is a gecko. Joe is fat. so n so is ugly…you wear flip flops, you wear funny tank tops, you’re a porker, you’ve got acne.
It’s hilarious.
Now the rap biz is full of guys with either manorexia, or cock-diesel dreams.

@Izza….hold on, I just re-read your comment. And I totally agree with you. I’m not having any of that “cr—a” talk here. Exploitation in hip hop or of hip hop is definitely not race-exclusive or gender-exclusive. So call it what it is, please don’t generalize.
Even saying “the Man” is more accurate.

lol, this is sad. Mary J and Keyshia Cole are prime examples of the wonders that make- up can do. There are plenty of gorgeous women who don’t sell[ Christina milian, kelly rowland ect]; I can’t any think of a female singer who is just hideous, someone mentioned Amy Winehouse but she was decent before she found the pipe. In regards to women in hip hop- hey do you, these are grown women–> if they’re cool with it, who am i to hate.

I don’t agree with Snoop’s comment. There are pretty singers who don’t sell like a few of you all mention. Alot has to do with the record label not promoting them properly. He mention Keisha Cole, Mary J and Beyounce they are just cute to me. Snoop should set an example to all these other rappers, since he has a DARK-SKINNED DAUGHTER and AVERAGE WIFE at home. Why not placed MORE DARK-SKINNED women in YOUR videos? He should not be making a comment about people being UGLY not being able to sell. He should here comments people are saying about his WIFE and DAUGHTER and they are not good.

Okay already,we all know what “grind my gears” means now,LoL!
@izza
Your actually right,ALL white people are not responsible for ALL black peoples problems.
I do recognize that my disrespectful disposition towards whites who DO exploit my people for personal gain may rub white people who don’t exploit my people the wrong way,and for that,I apologize.
but let’s get one thing clear hun.
the puppeteers of the world of international banking, business, government,Law enforcment, military,HIPHOP(like someone alluded to)Are all disproportionatly WHITE.
this is a FACT.
in the words of mos def “old white men,are runnin this rap sh*t”…
this gets much deeper, but I’ve been bizzy today.
@Cbroo
Peace!
Your right, but that mentality applies to lames who don’t see through womens looks and the sex they have to offer.
usually you’ll see some of these type of guys get sexual harrassment charges leveled against them(the source, madison square garden)rape accusations(SNOOP & “don juan” at the jimmy kemmel show, tupac, rappers entourages__________(insert any here)
then you got countless powerful men destroying there lives over sex.
sex sells because that’s what gets promoted by the sex, model, and hiphop industry, and that is also ran by ,you already know.
Fact:Men will always like sex.
Fact:men will always lust pretty women.
Fact:there’s always gonna be people willing to exploit the two facts I mentioned above.
So now the question becomes, what limitations should be set to the whoring industry?
In my opinion, they should be kept away from kids, and the industry should reflect reality…
All women aint whores,or attention whores stuck on there looks.
And on the flip side of the coin,I also believe women shouldn’t be put in important positions because of there looks or sexual favors they may be bestowing upon men in positions of power…
P.s. For those who care,I’m gettin word from my crew out in jerz that max b got out numbered and beat up out there.(some more childs play)don’t be surprised if you see footage of this “altercation” hit the net or on dvds…
Have a nice weekend.
