Sneakerheads! Nike Introduces “Twitter RSVP” Release System
Posted by Matty U under interview , life beyond rap[9] Comments
After witnessing first hand what happened with the Galaxy Foamposites release at the Florida Mall in Orlando over All-Star break, Nike’s Twitter RSVP Policy only seems logical. Basically, Nike will designate an online RSVP date for a sneaker, where consumers have to respond with the required information via Twitter to secure a pair.
Yes, Foot Locker and other sneaker boutiques will still have their lineups, but what’s puzzling about this is that the online Nike Store has always been faulty, so it’s going to be interesting how smoothly this runs. On the other hand, there’s thousands of people that don’t have a Twitter account, and I’m sure there’s many people out there with multiple Twitter accounts, which could work at an advantage by buying more than a pair. Either way, this is for the safety of the consumer, especially with the anticipation of the Yeezy 2′s. We hope this system turns out to be long-time solution. What do you guys think of this new policy?

NIKE STORE LAUNCHES – TWITTER RSVP
Twitter RSVP is used to help manage product launches at Nike Stores. Follow your local Nike Store on Twitter for launch announcements and frequent updates.
The Twitter RSVP Process:
On the RSVP date, our store will send a tweet at a random time to begin our Twitter RSVP process, including a product specific hashtag (#tag).
Once registration is open, you must Direct Message (“DM”) the store within 60 minutes. The DM must include:
The product-specific #tag tweeted by the store
The last 4 digits of your State/Passport/Military/School ID number
Your shoe size (limit one).
Confirmations from the store will be sent via DM to those who have successfully secured their requested size. Shoes will be awarded on a “first respond, first serve” basis.
Confirmed recipients must pick up their product (in person w/ identification) from the store on the day of launch. Unclaimed product will be announced on Twitter and will be re-released at the store’s discretion. How do you properly RSVP through DM? Here’s an example:
Store Tweet:
Twitter #RSVP is now open for the Air Foamposite One.#Electrolime
Consumer Response (DM):
#Electrolime, 4253, 10.5(For more information about sending a DM, see the Twitter Help Center.)Twitter RSVP Terms and Conditions:
One item allowed per person, even if you receive two confirmations of successful registrations. Abuse of this rule may result in denial of purchase or entry to future launches.
Confirmed recipients must provide a valid ID that matches the last 4 digits used for RSVP.
Size cannot be changed once it has been confirmed to a person through Twitter RSVP.
Resell or trade of Twitter RSVP confirmation is prohibited.
Twitter RSVP confirmation is not transferable and not redeemable for cash or for credit towards any purchase.
Lines will not be allowed to form outside the store for this release.
Launch process is always subject to change at any time at the discretion of Nike, Inc.Twitter RSVP is used to help manage product launches at Nike Stores. Follow your local Nike Store on Twitter for launch announcements and frequent updates.

Start Lining Up Now! Kanye’s ‘Yeezy 2′ Sneaker Will Hit Retailers in April

I’m all for the safety of consumers after witnessing a teen get beat up for his Jordan Concords when they were released but, this new “system” is very confusing. How exactly are twitter users supposed to “DM” their info to their local Nike store’s twitter account unless said Nike twitter account is following their ENTIRE follower list? Am I reading this wrong; somebody please tell me that I’m seeing stuff incorrectly!

Thanks, my source from Nike just told me the same thing so all is good in the hood! I was hoping that all sneaker retailers would ban camp-outs because they’re really dangerous but I’m interested in seeing how this new system plays out. But where does this leave folks who aren’t on twitter?

There’s bound to be flaws, but I’m all for reserving , I love fresh new kicks and all but I’m to old to be waiting on line on OVER hyped kicks. Sure I have my connects but on occasions they don’t work when there’s a mob of 400 kids amped on Redbull, Monster and Weed, wanting the same kicks as everyone else, so they serve the kids that waited for 2 weeks not to start a Riot. But its not a problem, I’ll live. Let’s see how this turns out during the Yeezy’s , should be interesting.

While I’m not a fan of this proposed system, I do believe that it’s a step in the right direction as far as these releases go. Sneakers are really turning into big business and I’m glad they’re attempting to fix the process but what about those of us who don’t have a twitter account, or those of us who actually have jobs where we’re not allowed to have our cell phones or any type of internet access while at work? That leaves us at a disadvantage when it comes to acquiring the kicks. SMH I’m getting too old for this……
