Lol! I’m already a Trey Songz fan….but I love that he straight names names on his version of “Death of Autotune”….I’m sure Jay-Z will get a kick out of it too. Now obviously, this isnt like picking a fight with Kellz at his height, but its still very interesting. Especially because I hear R.Kelly is working on his “comeback.” *ick*

“First off, anyone who is familiar with my history knows I’m a HUGE R. Kelly fan & have been inspired by him since my early beginnings musically. So while some may take this as disrespect, those who truly listen to the lyrics will understand my urging him to go harder. I’ve been compared to R. Kelly since my career began while we all can recall R. Kelly stepping on the scene sounding AND looking JUST like Aaron Hall. He demolished his sound and then went on to build his own which was a mixture of many others. We all are familiar with his signature adlib “Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh” which he grabbed from Lenny Williams & let’s not forget the “Bump & Grind” remix which started his Isley Brother’s Vibe. Soon enough he assisted Ron Isley in becoming Mr. Biggs & while keeping Ronald close he kept him on his toes. The R. Kelly we all grew to love was innovative, witty, & trendsetting. Trey is finding a way to promote his album. I’m a fan of R. Kelly and think he should leave the autotune alone for a while but who is Trey to call the King out? I like Trey’s music but maybe he should reach out to the man that influence his style of music in a different manner. I doubt Kells will respond to a peon. I wonder if he’ll still perform “grub on” since he Robert co-wrote and produced it.

I think Trey is right. AutoTune is definitely dead. People want to hear your raw vocals, not autotune enhanced tracks. I dont take it as disrespect I take it as a wake up call to R.Kelly. The so called king of R&B should know better anyway. Im chicago born and raised so I know R.Kelly music vey well and I haven’t had an R. Kelly album since Tp-3. His music has seriously fallen off.

treys last album was Nice…he needs more marketing and people behind him. Double Up from R. was good with a couple great songs on it…but lately R isnt being R. its too late for him to try new things…he doesnt need to. however I did hear a lil or R on Treys last album…so this may be a heartfelt wake up call to R. Trey is truly a fan of his and you see it in his music. I dont think it was a diss at all. R does need to step it up he has alot to prove I think.

Well, I for one liked the song and also thought he made a good point about who R. kelly should be musically at this point in his life. He should continue to stay ahead of the r&b game and watch the youngsters catch up, not the other way around. I’m sure the die hard R. kelly fans won’t see it that way but it needed to be said. First and foremost, let’s try to not see this as a diss but as R. kelly’s “awakening”. *snicker*

not dissing Kellz but Trey is right.. R. Kelly hasnt done anything worth mentioning in a LONG TIME… in fact i cant even recount anything in the past pear, thats made me swoon over the old R&B wonder.. or even care enough not to download it instead of anticipating purchasing his album.. Though I’m a BIG R. Kelly fan.. I feel like Trey is hungry… hes on his grind… and Kellz is sitting back thinking he’ll always hold the king title.. he has to remember when he first came out… he had to steal the king title from someone else… Trey may not be on Kelly’s level 100% but the man is making moves to get there.. He shows his fans unconditional love (The dude goes HAM on the twitter).. and is constantly giving the public what they want…. Kelly on the other hand feels as though he’s earned the title to just sit back… Let’s be real .. if BIG was still alive he’d still be hungry he’d still be on his grizzly..how Jay say.. U treat ur first like ur last and ur last like ur first… GO HARD OR GO HOME… R. Kelly is practically giving the title up… You want people to stop saying Songz is the next remix king.. then get up.. show up. and prove.. until then… HANDS DOWN…Songz is like a breath of fresh air.. we didnt know we needed it till we got it… YUUUP

Yea H. is right. Trey is calling out Kellz as a publicity stunt in his attempt to dethrone him. Don’t get me wrong, Trey is cool wit his music but he can’t be taking shots at someone who is much higher in his career than he [Trey] is. And now we gotta see how this will play out.

I totally agree with u.. trey songz is a commercial artist.. its not real r&b.. his songs play on the radio for a bit then its forgotten about… kells got that baby making music to go on for years!!!!.. kells can do wut he pleases.. snoop changed his style over the years as well as other artists.. doesn’t mean much.. nuthing wrong with trying new things…

I want to say that I’m a fan of R.Kelly’s but I’m not. R.Kelly came out about a year after I was born and is a few years older that my mother so I grew up listening to his music. I was a fan of the 90’s R.Kelly. Now I listen to his music and I feel like his trying to hard to be relevent. Of all of the songs R.Kelly has put out in the last 9 yrs, I only like 3 of them. Sure some of his songs were catchy but can’t bullshit be catchy too? Someone should’ve been told R.Kelly to step his shit up because Boo-Boo isn’t above criticism. Why not Trey Songz? I personally wouldn’t want to be compared to the current bullshit R.Kelly currently calls music.

Trey Songz only had one song to make top 40 in his whole career. Who is really checkin for this dude? He has to worry about Neyo,Dream,Chris Brown,etc. before even getting to Kellz. Even Kid Cudi manage to have the number 3 song in the country and he does the whole rapping/singing crap.
Kellz first two albums shits on Trey first two albums. Or should I say peeeeeee.

So are you saying that the more shit you put out the better?? Quantity over quality?? Truth be told, I haven’t heard shit from neither of them that’s worth a helluva lot of props. I don’t care about their “grinds” I care about the finished product and to me neither has put out shit worth bragging about. At this point and time I’m more inclined to listen to Trey Songz because he’s newer/fresher and he does shit that is at least more appropriate for his age while R. Kelly keeps sing about being in the club, leaving the club, going to the club, etc. and the nigga’s what, 40-41 years old??
Again I could careless about the amount of shit you put out, it’s about the quality! To me neither has been very impressive!

Good for Trey Songz. Personally I think he sounds like Cher when he sings, but I respect this.
Not just b/c R.kelly’s a arrogant pedophile, but b/c urban music thrives off the young taking theirs. Soulja boy was rite to go at Ice-T, Webstar was rite to go at Jay-Z, and Trey Songz is right. Thats how urban music evolves.

Club to a bedroom, bangin the headboard, Pussy Cry, Supa Dupa Man, Tip the Waiter, and Make me Wanna are all Dope. On his last CD he had a couple of hot songz az well(“screamer”,”At the Same time”). The case killed Kelly, as much as everybody tries to deny it so he’s subjecting himself to following trends to remain significant. In reality, he’s losing his fan base so he’s adjusting his aim. I’ve been a fan since Public Announcement was his back-up band and I’m only 23 so I KNOW R. Kelly, and this ca-ca he’s been pushing onto people ain’t him.
He’s like Charlie Wilson is now: why are you singing about something a person in their twenties would sing about and you’re WAYYY past that stage in your life? He’s struggling to find his sound after thirty, and it’s taking him mad long to figure it out. Trey’s just saying what plenty of people have said already. I know I’ve been saying it for a good minute: “Half On A Baby” R. Kelly, “Bad Man” R. Kelly, hell “Honey Love” R. Kelly: I feel that dude on what he’s saying.
“Thoing Thoing” or however you spell that crap? I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. There has to come a time in an artist’s career where the beat ceases to define their success, and the time has definitely passed for our dear Robert Kelly.
Trey’s speaking from a fan’s POV. Hell, if I’m gonna be compared to somebody, let it be the somebody who made quality music consistently for years on end. I wouldn’t want to be compared to somebody who recorded “Double Up”, personally. Everybody makes excuses for R. Kelly because of his past accomplishments and yes, he has a gang of them, but to truly challenge yourself you have to act as if none of that ever happened and focus on creating a new legacy each album.
That’s all Trey is trying to say, people. We know what the veteran is capable of so why jump down Trey’s throat for speaking the truth? You must be getting salty because somewhere in your mind you know dude’s days are numbered as the highest of high.
Quench your thirst, send that man a note begging him to bring back his sound, and calm the hell down.

I personally think trey songz is a great artist. Yeah he have his opinion on r. Kelly music but I don’t think he was really dissing r. Kelly many of us grew up listening to r. Kelly n yesss we all love him n his music regardless of his publicity. Ok I personally grew up on listening to r. Kelly hell I have every album he has ever had on my iPod but I only listen to his CDs from the 90s until I met my boyfriend who is a fan of r. Kelly n made me listen to his current albums yeAh there are a few songs that I enjoyed but I think I agree with trey… R Kelly isn’t the same anymore… Yeah he trynna get on that new hype on autotune n yeah no matter how everyone wanna put it r kelly comes hard but its just not the same but what if Marian Carey did

i think trey songs is a lil’ kid tryna sell a reccord n needs to shut the fu(k up! the only one tryna be like someone is trey tryna be like r.kelly! as we all know who the original is before this youngin!
kelly’z trying something new, props to him for steping out the box! that’s how he’s managed earn his title and success among other things!… i heard a couple of the new trax n personally don’t really like it. what can i say, that’s what kids are listen to these days! music is just gettin worse and more commercial, and doesn’t compare to the 70’s, 80’s, and even early 90’s, when lil trey was just born! he think’s he’s the shyt but in reality he’s not, even in comparison to some of these artists they have out now. and when he’s in the studio he too has his lil magic tools to make him sound good!
this lil boy needs to find himself, or better vocals, and stop using other ARTISTS to boost his sales! which just goes to show you how talented he really is! cuz when you check it, he was like a one hit wonder his damn self! kelly disapeared to, but if it came down to it kelly could lyrically and vocally beat this kid any day! R. kelly done fell off…trey just speaking the truth. Yes, trey may not have had as many hits or anything as R. Kelly or any other big names but that’s because trey songz is underated. Trey has many mixtapes where he shows off his lyrical talent. People will soon discover that he is just as talented if not even more talented than some of his peers.

i definately fuck with both trey and kellz. kellz is the king and trey is the heir apparent, in my opinion. the only difference is that as far as i know trey doesnt produce or write near as much as kelly. as a r kelly fan, i one hundred percent feel trey about kellz and the autotune, he can sing,unlike some, therefore he doesnt need it. i heard his mixtape and the entire thing isnt autotune but trey fucks with the autotune also, to a certain extent, i have been said the shit was whack but why does tpain get a pass?
ps- if you have heard 12 play 4th quarter (his album that leaked last year) no way in hell you would say kelly fell off, that shit is fire. gow low and same time, look them up, vintage kelly, he is your favorite singers favorite writer

well i personally dont like for anyone but myself to say that r. kelly’s latest music is no comparison to him in his prime lol(except for a few 12 play: 4th quart. songs and a couple off the mixtape)but trey took it to another level when he accused r. kelly of jockin the dream (which i said the first time i heard customer rmx but again only i can say that!!) .. but really how can kels steal a style from an artist that he practically birthed, f’n impossible .. i mean dream’s “kelly’s 12 play” says it all, “stunt like my daddy” .. yea kels bites a lil bit (he did aaron hall better than aaron hall did himself) but he pioneered what these dudes are doing today, how else can u explain all these “r&b thugs”

Its ok to criticize R Kelly as a fan, but as a peer in the same industry Trey doesnt have enough of a resume. Trey Songz is a Dlist R&B singer like Omarion , Lloyd, Bobby Valentino etc. Does Rkelly really need career tips from anybody at this point?

now, i dont like r kelly NOR trey songz.. but even i know rkelly has done more for modern r&b than maybe any other artist recording.. the guy has a TON of classic records.. so now, 20yrs into his career, his music aint great anymore.. SO WHAT?? after 20yrs of classic records, ur entitled to make some wack projects.. let the old great veteran have his fun.. if he wants to use autotune, wear a zoro mask, and sing about hotdogs.. LET HIM! just dont buy it.. and if he leaves a big void for creative music, thats when you step up, and do something innovative and relevant, like the Old Rkelly you missed would do..

I agree with most of the posters, that unreleased 12 play 4th quarter had some hot tracks on it. When you are a legend like Kells, you can’t win for losing. People loved his early stuff, then they said all he was singing about was sex, so he flipped the script with the Stepping songs and people loved that too but said he should go back to the old R. Kelly. But he couldn’t go back to the raunchy music while the 6 year trial was going on. LOL!!! Then he returned and killed it with Trapped in the Closet and became the remix King. Then after he beat the case, he went back to his roots with the 12 play 4th quarter album and now he is slaying it with the mix tape. As an artist, you have to take chances and push the envelope. And people have liked his stuff more often than not. Yeah I wish he would lay off so much autotune but he even freaked that on a few tracks.

FIRST OF ALL, “D.O.A KELLZ” was definitly a DISS cause in the song Trey basically calls out Kelly for wanting to be like him since he cuts his hair just like wat trey did. SECOND OF ALL, it isnt like Trey is trying to help Kelly in his carrer cause the music business is COMPETITION and if Trey is trying to be the best why would be tell “the king” to step it up?? Trey is trying to bring kelly down to make himself rise to the top.

Ok, we all know that this is a ploy to attract attention, but I do agree. R. Kelly stopped making music that was mature that also displayed his creative genius. Kellz traded his style in for the less work, dumbed-down, radio/clubby bullshit that artist of far less talent do. The music R. Kelly made in the 90s was classic shit, but this shit he’s been doing for the last 8 or more years has been what I call throw-away shit!! You listen to it for a month and then you could careless if you hear it again or not. Yo, it seems like this dude went down in age mentally and creatively because he makes music that one would expect from the likes of Pleasure P., Chris Brown, and other artist under the age of 25.
I’ve been unimpressed with R. Kelly’s work for years true enough, but on the other side of the discussion, who is Trey Songz to speak on this issue so aggressively?? I could see if it were the likes of Joe, Neyo, Usher, John Legend, or any other artists who has, or is on their way, to building a catalog of music that has plenty of classics or at the very least extremely well put together material in it. Trey Songz hasn’t made anything close to a classic yet so who is he to speak so boldly about what R. Kelly hasn’t done in a long time. He has a right to his opinion sure, but he’s an artist too and it is my opinion that unless you’re doing something way better that the next man who’s in the same industry you have no business shitting on the next man’s work!!
As far as I’m concerned Trey Songz and R. Kelly need to step their games up big time, but the difference between the 2 is this; at least R. Kelly has a proven track record of his ability to put out classic/fire shit while Trey Songz hasn’t proven to us that he has one classic in him. Trey Songz is good, but just good. He puts out shit that you can get out of damn-near any “R&B” artist. I’m no more or less impressed with his shit than I am with Bobby Valentino, Dream, Omarion, Pleasure P., Chris Brown, Mario, etc. They are all entertaining, but nothing that special!!

Oh, I’ve been sick of the Auto Tune use. It was cool when you had T-Pain using it pretty much exclusively and then occasionally hearing it from a few other people, but it got to the point where-in every fucking body wanted to use that shit!! To me it does not take any talent for a person to use that other than maybe their ability to write well which most artists aren’t doing well when using it. Auto Tune being used so heavily by “R&B” singers is bullshit in my opinion because why would you not want to display your vocal abilities or have them altered if you can really sing??
