Roscoe Dash Feels Left Out by Kanye: “Tell Me Why I’m Not on the Credits?” [UPDATED]
Posted by Tanya TC under hmmm....?[38] Comments
In the heat of Cruel Summer, which dropped six days ago, Roscoe Dash wants a fragment of that spotlight. A few hours ago, the rapper took to twitter to voice his frustrations with not being credited for his work on the album. “Everybody go get the G.O.O.D album and listen to #1 then watch@kanyewest [interview] interview… & tell me y I’m not on the credits,” he tweeted. The rapper-producer then proceeded to rant off “the shit that goes on” in the music industry, including ( and allegedly) not receiving credit for writing Wale’s “Lotus Flower Bomb.”
Do you feel the ATL rapper got duped?
UPDATE: Roscoe adds more clarification via Twitter
@RoscoeDash: “And as far as @KanyeWest “To The World” if u listen close my adlibs are STILL in the song”
“However the record went #1 & I wasnt credited”
“After getting off the phone with @wale I feel like I need to clarify I WROTE THE HOOK for “lotus flowerbomb” not his verses”
UPDATE2: Miguel has responded in an exclusive interview with COMPLEX
As far as I know, Wale and another artist that I recently met penned the original ‘Lotus Flower Bomb’ chorus and I came in and added the second half or the end part…I’m not going to explain myself, this is retarded. I don’t know anything about Roscoe Dash. At the end of the day, I know my involvement in the song and as far as I know, Wale and I, and this other guy, wrote the chorus. The other guy was an alternative artist.
UPDATE3: Roscoe Dash responds to both Miguel and Meek Mill, and tweets photos of the reference tracks on his iTunes.
Voice your opinions and check out the rest of his tweets after the jump…

Another thing that seemed similar was that Good Music on 106 & Park, the kid Travis Scott kept getting muted when he mentioned the tracks he produced.

So, let me get this clear: you’re saying if an album doesn’t make number one, specifically, then it’s a flop.
Alright…

YEP thats exactly what im saying … if an album is hyped up to be the next best thing, pformances on every award show, has someone els hit on it (i dont like) and has that much of hi profile rappers on it … and thru all that still didnt manage to go no.1 … than yep its a flop and theres nothing you can do about it even if you go buy another copy.

@ DuckSauce.
Cruel Summer is a huge flop lets not run away from that … Im a huge kanye fan but i wont run away from the fact that the LP is a flop (beat wise, lyrics wise ex.)
Men lie, women lie, numbers dont so you cant say a project with big names such as kanye, Common, Kid Cudi and Big Sean moving 170k – 190k copies 1st week and not going number 1 is a success.
But I know kanye will do better in the future so I still have hope.

This makes Roscoe look real bad. Granted he may be in the right with what he’s saying the preception of him for this is gonna be very damaging. Best to chalk it up as a loss and keep it moving. More money to be made elsewhere.

First of all how are you going to blame Kanye for the whole thing. Like one man is post to remember what small part you did on a song. If you got paid to write the whole song, then
I could understand. But it was a small part of a song. That most people can’t even tell that your on. And to be honest Kanye and the other producers might have forgotten to write your name down so you could get you credit.
Relax already, Kanye knows what you did for him and he paid you for your work. But you want to act up and yell because you want to prove to everyone else that you worked on that song too. Waaaaaa!

So why is ANY of this being played out in the public for us to know? Doesn’t anyone move in silence anymore? Its bad enough to have to handle twisted business with the key parties involved but you then elect to add a couple hundred thousand viewers to the situation? I mean you logically though that would help?
Get ya paperwork right and sue if you have a legit stance.

Does the term “paying dues” have any significance in Hip Hop anymore??

I think ppl’s reactions to this are funny and it shows how ignorant a lot of people are.
Ppl are like “that’s why you shoulda gotten paperwork” or how he can’t write hits for himself but he ghostwrote these hits? Or u think he is only complaining about the ad libs?
Look if u wrote something, and you have your own publishing, unless they bought out the publishing from you and paid you upfront…. U deserve compensation and credit for your work. If dude did work on it and it was understood that he was just ghost writing then he doesn’t need credit, but once you wrote it and its your work, u deserve compensation and credit…. Its that simple.
And for those that don’t understand… Paperwork doesn’t stop someone from stealing your shit, neither does it stop someone from using your shit illegally or misuse of your shit.
Paperwork is just your legal proof of what happened and you can likely win a lawsuit but then how long is it gonna take you to be compensated and is it gonna just be a settlement on a portion of what u deserve?
That’s what paperwork is good for…
So the question is… Does Roscoe have a right to be acting up about this right now? If he worked on those songs and was the original writer (of those hooks) as he claims then he has all the right in the world.
Niggaz can talk all they want until their talented is being misrepresented as somebody elses….

by definition..just because you’re a ghost writter it does not mean you dont get album credit…it means someone else performs the work you wrote.

That’s pretty disrespectful & comes to show how superficial & heartless that industry is. These peoples souls have been devoured by capitalism and we are just here to serve their egos.

Unfortunately, the rap game/music industry is all about exposure and publicity, and even though it looks like a weak attempt by Roscoe, he is still promoting himself with this bad publicity. It may seem wack, but it seems like Roscoe has been making some noise for about a year or two, so he deserves to be acknowledged, especially on a Kanye project in which it seems like he’s has acknowledged everyone and their momma. If he doesn’t get the proper respect, then if he pops off (like he’s doing now) I hope he has the skills/hits to back his mouth up. I wish him the best though and I feel his POV.

I keep getting him and the guy that had the duck tattoo on his face mixed up. Dont know.. i dont like Wale anyway. So, i dont care about him or his music. But the Kanye thing i definitely dont believe.. why would a musically brilliant guy like Ye need this mans help, who stands nowhere near him kyricallu..and he has better artist in his circle. I do believe someone writes for Kanye, but its not Dash

People are clowning him/not believing him because of his image.
If he didn’t have that hypebeast x ATL look, and chose something more “serious” as his stage name rather than “Roscoe Dash,” everybody would probably take this more seriously.
Think about it. If it were someone like James Fauntleroy or maybe even Frank Ocean making these claims, opinions would be different, regardless if the claims were true or not.
But it’s not them. It’s the dude who penned the line “I be goin’ ham, upgrade from bologna.”
Personally, I think he WAS paid for his work. He didn’t mention anything about money in his tweets. He just seems to want “credit” all of a sudden, after ghosting all this time.
Considering that dude posted a link to his recent mixtape at the end of his rant, I’m a little suspicious of his motivations.
