The pop superstar opened the VMAs with an all-pink themed set, with a Hood By Air shirt and Dior shades, RiRi delivered an uptempo/electro medley of “Please Don’t Stop the Music,” “Only Girl in the World,” “We Found Love,” and “Where Have You Been.” For her second act, the 28-year old turned The Garden into a bashment party, bringing the sexy dancing and West Indian massive for “Rude Boy,” “What’s My Name,” and “Work.”

Introduced by actress Tracee Ellis Ross for Act 3, Rihanna dived into her more seductive and brash hits, performing the songs “Needed Me,” “Pour It Up,” and “Bitch Better Have My Money.” For the grand finale, Mary J. Blige called the singer to the stage one final time, giving viewers flawless renditions of her smash-hit ballads “Stay,” “Diamonds,” and “Love on the Brain.”

Drake would present Rihanna with her Video Vanguard Award, reminiscing on the first time they met on set of “Pon Di Replay” in 2005 and revealing, “she’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old.”
