Rick Ross is #5 on MTV’s Hottest MC’s list….tee hee
Posted by Miss Info under beef , hmmm....? , laugh at , quotes , videos[126] Comments
I’m laughing because I can only imagine what kind of s–tstorm this is gonna stir up….*snicker*
And the co-sign from the God Rakim!?!
Now all you guys who were mad about Gucci Mane….do you think Ross is “hotter” than Gucci?
Sway “So we’re all happy then, Rick Ross at #5.”
o man…I’m checking out, time to fire up Beatles Rock Band : )

IM DONE, dont want to see anymore of the list. didnt even watch the video, but did you say co-sign from Rakim? NO WAY!!! sadly as of right now i would put Gucci ahead of the C.O. mainly because the list is based on whos “HOT” Gucci has a song with Mariah, pretty tough to get any hotter than that!!! Info, why dont you have a round table and compile the “Best” or “Nicest” lets name it “Most Lyrical” list and see what we get! i dont think the first 5 on the hottest list would see the light of day on this list with the exception of Rae!

Ok Rick Ross and Gucci…
someone is left out!!
BUT……..
For sure there is no Joe Budden TOP 4 in online Fan voting, the most talked about artist this summer, dropped one amazing mixtape and a pretty damn good critically accepted album, founded Slaughter House the most talked about and currently most copied construction in all of hip hop and was on 3 Tours this summer.. And he’s not one of the hottest in the game right now? Someone has to answer that!!
Gucci cant fucking rap and Budden get’n decked in the eye is the same as Ross aka officer Ricky gettin played by 50 all summer long!!
He doesnt make the list?
This shit is all politics and gay buddy influence!! This shit is very sad..
Kanye is out because he’s being punished..

What song does Joe Budden have on the radio? Many people don’t even know who Joe Budden is unless they follow certain internet site. Most people get their hip-hop from radio not internet. Joe Budden don’t sell albums or singles. Joe Budden can walk thru a crowd without people recognizing him. No disrespect but Joe is not hot. This is not about being lyrical or one of the best but hot. I dissagree with Rick Ross being so high but he is an artist that is hot (starting to fade). Rick Ross had many songs on the radio and generated a lot more buzz then joe.

The real Rick Ross isn’t doing anything. The Real Rick Ross is 110lbs washed up. no disrespect but he is not the gangster he once was. He will probably try to get money off his name (books, reality tv) which the fake Rick Ross made famous. Most people didn’t even know the Real Rick Ross outside of Cali. What did the Real American Gangster (Frank Lucas) do to the fake American Gangster (Jay-Z). nothing but made a weak ass threat trying to promote his nephew.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
First question, Whose not in the top 4? Kanye as much as I dont like him he’s still in the top 5 because he makes great music minus his last album.. Maybe he’s out because his last album wasn’t hip hop.. but dont put Eminem on that list and lets see how far this last..He’s killing features his album is at 3mill interesting.. Is MTV further scolding Kanye for the VMA’s? Is that right?
Now Ross on the list… let me be clear I think he is a talented guy but just out of his fucking mind in an alternate universe.. Like you listen to him talk and think what fucking planet is this guy from!! He’s this generations Jay-Z a total fraud BUT TALENTED!! Cant say hes a garbage rapper if this list was about the nicest then he would have to make it but if its about the hottest right now.. I dont think he’s on it!! He didn’t escape being destroyed by 50 Cent that nigga playing Jedi Mind Tricks on people he got a good release date and has still only managed to move 275k copies of his album to date. 50 stole all of his current hotness with Pimp Curly and isn’t she lovely. Again talented but I dont think his last album was by any means classic GREAT ELEVATOR MUSIC! With a few good cuts..
Ross on the list at all WOW!! Where is Drake? 5 spots 6 stars.. Gay-Z, Slim, Wayne, Drake and Kanye!! And How does T.I. not make this list his last album was amazing.. The King of the south cant make a list full of southern rappers? Its like they change the most important factor in selecting who makes the list with each pick!
I think the list should shake things up a little and break new artist but wow!! Its time Fab gets credit over T.I?
So here is a question…
Who has the top 10 biggest followings in hip hop? Or what 10 guys command the most national and international attention?

Ricky and Gucci are FAR from being able to sell out arena’s at this point. Sooooo……. Who’s left off now? Em, Wayne, Drake, Kanye, or Jay? I guess Em which is complete bull shit. He had the best opening week this year in Hip hop but I guess that doesn’t mean you’re hot.

somebody doesn’t belong on this list based off of MTV’s criteria because we only got 4 spots left but the 5 biggest names in rap right now are still left. Those 5 are Jay-z, eminem, lil wayne, drake, and kanye west. All 5 of those guys are either the most talked about or the dudes selling the most so one of them is gone. Probably Kanye since 808’s was an R&B album.

notice how no one’s talking about how well he rhymes, mentioning specific lines that are crazy, or even how his flows are on point. Or his material.
It’s “he’s such a boss” and “he beefed with 50″ and “he got ladies.”
This is why hip hop is so goddamn wack right now. I know Sway and them gotta pay bills, but I can’t respect this obvious watering-down of the culture.
and don’t even get me started on that Rakim ‘cosign’, which wasn’t even all that much of a cosign. He basically said, “Rick Ross is representing Miami, and yeah.” Ra’s not mentioning any lines or flows that make Ross someone to listen to. Do they pay for cosigns now? I’m sure there’s some behind-the-scenes shuffling that goes on to get these ‘older & irrelevant’ artists to talk bull.

A top-tier word assasin? Rick Ross? This is MTV label Rick Ross? I’m gonna go on record and say that Deeper Than Rap is a very good album. Not great. Definitely not classic. But very good. Personally, I think the album gets alot of attention based on the production. I don’t hear anyone really quoting any verses or any sick rhymes that he says on the album. And to say that the album has too many features would be a understatment. And to say that he survived the 50 onslaught is silly. I don’t think anyone looks at Rick Ross the same after playing around with Mr. Jackson. Those freestyles that he released attacking 50 were not hot at all. And when he came up with the Curly nickname for 50, Fif just turned it around and made a very ugly but funny character “Pimpin’ Curly” out of it. Does he deserve to be on the list, sure. This high, no. And after 50 left Ross alone, so went Ross’ momentum and attention. So what does that say about the DTR? He is now referred to online as “Officer Ricky.” Everything 50 has uncovered about William reveals to the public that he is not that much of a “Bawse!” Tia’s running around with Fif and doing Smooth spreads, his other son’s mother is a escort. And was filmed having sex!? This what we consider hot coming from our MC’s. That’s embarassing. And whoever at the roundtable says that Ross’ album is a classic needs his ipod confiscated. Ross’ placement throws off the remaining slots. The real question now is who is going to get left out from Jay, Yeezy, Wayne, Drake & Em. None of them deserve to be left out over Ross but we’ll see. This drawn out process of revealing the list is somewhat annoying. What made this MTV list thing interesting is seeing everyone debate over who should be on the list and who shouldn’t. The way they are doing it makes it seem like everyone agreed on all of the slots and I certainly don’t believe that. Who at that roundtable thought DTR was a classic? Stand up! I dare you to defend that claim. Miss Info, as someone who is quite familiar with classic hip hop album and is able to recognize one when you hear it, is Deeper Than Rap a classic? Just want to make sure my ears after all these years of listen to hip hop is not deceiving me.

Four slots with Jay-Z, Kanye, Weezy, Drake, and Em left.
The wildcard: Slaughterhouse, Jadakiss
This is just so funny.

IMHO, Rick Ross’s major flaw is that he got caught telling lies. And of course he handled the whole officer thing badly.
He makes dope music. He’s got a good ear, his lyrics are slick. And he makes excellent (albeit low budget) videos.
As an MC, he’s definitely above Fifty Cent. Fifty’s had 7 years in the game, his crew is exactly the same as it ever was. Ross can claim to represent an entire city. Fifty, not so much.

U can’t deny that Ross has had a pretty damn good year. He banged it out with 50 better than anybody ever has, put out a pretty hot album, and is tryin to put his wack ass homies on lol. But do I think he should be #5??? HELL NO! I’d give him 8 or 9, but not 5. Cuz now, out of Hov, Drake, Wayne, Kanye, and Em, who r they gunna leave out??? Im not one of the haters of MTV’s list, because I think they’re reasonably accurate on the “hottness” of these rappers, its not who’s the best, its who’s the hottest. I just think that u can’t not have any of the 5 i mentioned omitted from the list

His album debuted at #1 and it’s sold 387,000 in the US to date.
It wasn’t a bad album.
Not saying album sales matter when determining a truly talented artist, but who actually got behind the Rick Ross “movement” if it ONLY sold 387,000?
What killed sales isn’t necessarily lying. It’s lying improperly.
Like no one was gonna know that it was his heavy @$$ in those pics. All he had to say was “I needed a legit gig so I can keep moving weight, that CO job is how I got some of my coke/crack connects etc.” or just stay quiet and make your music.
To totally deny his past was just idiocy.
Buttahman: “‘Cause here we are, and nobody cares about that $#!+ no more.”
387,000 in album sales.
I beg to differ. SOMEBODY cared, ’cause nobody bought it.
To add to what Rakim said: During that “beef” with 50, Ross was lyrically better than 50 (Yes he was better, God forbid a Southern MC be better than a NY one). It’s just that 50 had more “weapons” to throw at him besides lyrics and a mic. Plus Ross lied.
Sway: “So we’re all happy then, Rick Ross at #5.”
Frauds are winning in this era of Hip Hip. It’s cool you wanna make lists, it’s just a shame that we have no authentic people in Hip Hop today.
Lil Wayne (a fake gangster playing the part of a rock star who kisses his “daddy”), Drake (a point-Dexter playing the part of a player) , Rick Ross (a cop playing the part of a drug-leader), dare I say… never mind. I don’t want any stans attacking me about my opinion of “the ambassador of Hip Hop.”
Just my thoughts.

I don’t take these list too seriously so it’s all in good fun and debate. I understand peoples need to make hip-hop competitive I guess but to me the whole thing just seems corny to me hip-hop is music and music is art and art is expression and ones form of expression might be meaningless to you but priceless to others don’t get me wrong the masters are the masters and hip-hop like the other art forms has it’s Picassos and Bach’s, but that doesn’t mean kaws and kanye aren’t as worthwhile themseleves I say we enjoy all for what it is. I actually think this pick is accurate. “Hottest” emcees in the game doesn’t mean the most talented. It simply means whose buzz is the biggest right now. Rick Ross’s album was suprisingly good and debuted at number 1. In addition, his viral content is getting a ton of views and other artists are demanding to work with him.
This is coming from Mr. Nerd Backpacker Rap Fan himself.

i void mtv from any opinion regarding hip hip watching this just gets me upset listening the verbal diarrhea coming out of these peoples mouth’s its obvious they have a bias opinion of officer Ricki mtv pushed ross album and his image and still dint help him to sell … mtv big fail loll..i mean i used to have respect for mtv they were relevant 10 yrs ago now with they age of you tube as well as a bunch of various video sites mtv doesn’t have the power to make or break artist as they used to. hey their paying these people to do something so why not concoct a cockamamie list that at the end of the day means nothing no matter what they say its not gonna influence or change my mind about rick ross or any other artist on this list if its hot its hot if not its not cause no matter what you do you cant make s#it smell like rose

You’ve got to be kidding!! One idiot said he put out a classic album. It’s bad enough we’re labeling anybody who raps an ‘MC’, but now an album that only 350,000 people own is a classic?? (and before anybody says anything about “Illmatic” not selling, check your info. ‘Illmatic’ to date as earned a platinum plaque.) And what does that other guy mean by “he was faced with trial and tribulations”?? Rick Ross was living the good life growing up. He even had a clean record and got a nice job as a C.O. He was straight. He was living a decent life until somebody gave him the idea of acting tough and rapping about other people’s lives is a much better path of life. And as far as being one of the best lyricist from down south, Ross ain’t top 5. Also, lets be clear about something, if I release an album on a Tuesday when no one else releases an album, then I’ll have a #1 album. Having a #1 album means nothing. He came out on a Tuesday virtually by himself. I don’t hate Ross, I give him credit over 50 in track selections, but i’m old-school. Once you fake like you real, then the overwhelming evidence forces you to tell the truth, you fake for life. I would’ve accepted him if he had came out and told the truth, but he lied. He faked the funk. If he was real, he wouldn’t have needed all that pressure to come clean. He wasn’t real with himself and I can’t respect that.

Gucci may be hotter than Rick, but Rick probably made the hottest album this year (aside from Rae maybe).IMO. So there’s 4 spots left and there’s Kanye, Eminem, Drake, Wayne and Jay left. Drake and Jay have to be in and if Em was leading the whole thing early on, he’s probably in there somewhere….right? So who’s out? Wayne or Kanye? IDK

Who is Rick Ross? Does he have an album out? The only time he is mentioned is when it comes to 50! After that died down you barely heard of dude. What was his single again? What mixtape he got out? I like fab and Gucci but Jeezy and Ross have been considerably quiet. Can’t understand the MTV Brain Trust. The Rakim co sign only happened because he opened up for Rakim in NYC. That same courtesy wouldn’t happen in Miami. Chess move William.

Having a #1 album doesn’t hold the weight it used to hold given the market climate in 2009. Going #1 means your base snatched it up the first week. Every established artist has a base and given the diminished throughput of sales these days it doesn’t take much to go #1 in 2009. Sustaining the #1 spot for more than a month is the equivalent of hitting #1 15 years ago.
With that said Rick Ross album hasn’t even gone gold (last checked a lil over 300,000 according to soundscan) so its without a doubt this guy did not recover from them hits he took the past year.
NO WAY he should be that far up in the list…”Liking” the music is subjective. If you’re talking HOTTEST…the guy has cooled off considerably….NO WAY he should be #5. I heard the album and it has good songs but nothing special. He repeats his lines to force the rhyme..old trick.
And somebody else is doing “the music” not him. HOTTEST MC’s people!!! Not the cat with the HOTTEST TRACKS. Most of the time the rapper has nothig to do with creating the beat anyway.
Also, it aint HOTTEST IN YOUR HOMETOWN. It’s HOTTEST MCs.
And falling back on “Well everybody is not gonna agree” aint gonna cut it. Sometimes that is the case….but this list really isn’t adding up.

Honestly ignoring all the peripheral shit with C.O.’s and 50 Cent and all that mess I kinda agree with MTV on a few things about Rick Ross he can really Rap and he does put together great albums esp his last effort which to me had some of the best production of the year.

Exactly. How good are you as a rapper if everyone praises the tracks and not the lyrics? Not so good. If people mention the production of the album way more than they talk about the lyrics, then you are a rapper. Not an MC. Rick Ross doesn’t say anything special, he has no quotables…he’s average.

oh please stop with all that non sense Ross has good lyrics just ask the god Rakim. I didn’t say he was fucking Talib or Nas, jeeezz that’s the problem with you hip-hop fans its all or nothing a rapper is the best or he’s trash. Get over yourself the dude can rap his lyrics are good yes his production is better but shit since when is that a bad thing. Last I checked this whole hip-hop thing was about making music, and the actual music part of the song is kinda important don’t you think? Shit if most of these so called lyricist or MC’s as you call them took some notes and learned how to craft an album and pick the right beats and producers like Ross you know write a song not just a hot 16 bars they wouldn’t be mix tape rappers for the rest of there lives, you know who those rappers are. Instead Ross handles the task of making an album not just a single and complete cohesive workand because of this has 3 #1 albums to show for it. As for the rapper, MC or lyricist thing news flash! its all semantics hommie all 3 terms mean the same thing putting words together that rhyme to the rhythm of a beat no not all MC, rappers or lyricist are created equal some do it better then others but they are all rapping hommie what ever you call em makes no difference. That’s like saying a Cop is different from a Police Officer. Please haze clear the smoke from your eyes and see it for what it is he’s a relatively new artist that makes pretty good music on a consistent basis thus far in his young career. All the other BS about CO’s and beef and so on is just that BS.

You can’t be serious. If you think that an MC and a Rapper do the same thing, then I can’t even talk to you. So what you’re basically saying is Soulja Boy does the same thing as Royce da 5′9″. Jim Jones does the same thing as Big Pun. They all “rap”, according to you. The difference between a rapper and an MC is as clear as the difference between The NBA and the WNBA. If you can’t see that, then I can’t talk to you. And listen to what Rakim actually said. He ain’t co-sign anything, he kept it neutral. There was a couple of things about your comment I wanted to address, but I can’t get over the fact that you don’t know there’s a difference between a rapper (Gucci Mane) and an MC (T.I.).

Sigh…You gotta be kidding me! it’s too easy you’ve proven my point for me you fucking mental midget you! I’ll use your own example against you and I’ll do it nice a slow and simple since clearly you don’t read or pay attention very well. NBA players and WNBA players do EXACTLY! the same thing you fucking idiot they both play professional basketball. One league plays with a higher level of ability and competition then the other but they are all professional basketball players that’s what goes on there W2’s LOL get it sherlock so to paste an excerpt from my original comment.
I said “As for the rapper, MC or lyricist thing news flash! its all semantics hommie all 3 terms mean the same thing putting words together that rhyme to the rhythm of a beat no not all MC, rappers or lyricist are created equal some do it better then others but they are all rapping hommie what ever you call em makes no difference.”
If you weren’t too mentally broke to pay attention you would notice when I said all rappers are not created equal this means some rapper RAP better then others but they are all still rappers if they filled out a W2 under job description they would list Rapper. To claim that rappers who rap well or just the rappers you like are MC’s not rappers and all the other rappers are just rappers and not MC’s sounds well… is just unintelligent, like I said the difference in the 2 terms Rapper vs. MC it’s all semantics your probably not sure what that means so look it up. To be honest with you MC is an out dated term adopted from the 80’s by early rappers meaning Master of ceremonies, you know who’s really an ill MC my boy joe who works at the catering hall he does weddings Bat Mitzvahs anything you want LOL. So finally to put it as plain as possible YES soulja boy does the same thing as Royce and Jim Jones does the same thing as Pun and Gucci does the same thing as TI the difference between them is that TI Royce and Pun all do it much much better then Soulja Jim and Gucci but there all just rapping really.
As for the point of the post when it comes to who’s hot right now Rick Ross is hotter then all of them (maybe except for TI in my opinion) don’t believe me like I said go as Rakim who did vouch for him I don’t know what else you need from Rakim for a co-sign you want the dude to tattoo Bawse! on his fucking forehead the guy said he thinks he’s a pretty dope lyricist and coming from one of the dopest lyricist of his era what more do you need. Jay-Z vouching for him oh yeah he does too and so does Wayne and so on and so on just quit now while your behind peace!

That list is just the ten most relevent MC’s of 2009
Just like B.E.T. they gave up on the build up to a great MC.
R.i.P to YO!MTV-RaPS, RaPCiTY, & the Basement, Real hip hop Videos(good hip hop videos), in depth interviews and the all around rawness to to this genre of music.
wut are we left wit: muhfuc’in HOOdFAB!, 106 & PARK, SOGGY sUCKERfREE WEEKS, Lil’ Wayne saturated award Shows, and the systematic reduction to sucky Reality tv show soundtracks. oh and an allstar consistant cast of studio gangstars Provided by “WORLDSTAR…” ugh
They purposely pay no attention to all the artist exepting awards screaming

If you going to bring up album sales, bring up RINGTONE SALES. Magnificent went platinum in ringtone sales.
RINGTONE SALES is more IMPORTANT THAN ALBUM SALES to an Artist,Record Label and Radio spins. Artists makes more money off ringtone sales if you haven’t heard by now.
Rick Ross Ringtone sales makes up for everything.

I have no problem with this pick. Rick Ross actually has skills and put out one of the better albums this year.
My problem with this whole “Hottest MCs” list is the fact that they’re lending credence to people who have no business in the industry. Vanilla Ice was a joke during his time but if we had a “hottest MC” list back then would he have ever been on it?
I say no because back then the people in the industry had more respect for the genre. Now it’s being picked apart and we have people with respected voices (at least before this list) arguing why Gucci Mane should be included and why he should be above Raekwon.

and for the record i predict MTV rankings will unfold like this
4. Kanye
3. Jay

A co-sign from MTV, a channel that’s more “TV” than “Music” is hardly an accolade. I don’t know why folks are trippin’ off this. Fat boy can flow, he just can’t tell the truth. No one ever doubted his ability to rap, we just questioned the authenticity of what he’s rappin’ about. MTV…ha, ha, ha!!!

Yea…like I said Kenny Goodtimes, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I play ball for a Men’s league in my city, but that doesn’t mean I’m in the same class or should be labeled the same as lets say Dwight Howard or any NBA player for that matter. I don’t do the same thing he does, even though it’s the same sport. But Imma be a man of my word and not continue with you cuz you’re not in my age bracket. You can’t grasp what the art of MC’ing really means. ANYBODY can rap, not everybody can MC. I ain’t old, but i’m not in highschool like you are. I ain’t gonna call you names like I’m some sort of toughguy, I ain’t no Internet Gangsta or a Mousepad Mobster, but you should know that beats make rappers…MC’s make the beat.
