This just makes no sense. Early Sunday morning, Corey McGriff aka DJ Megatron was shot and killed near his home in Staten Island. He was 32 years old.
Mega was a former co-worker of mine at Hot97, where he was Fatman Scoop’s board engineer, and when Scoop moved to mid-days, Megatron took over the overnight slot. He also showed his diversity as an on-air personality for BET’s 106th and Park. And if you ask any of the shocked and saddened Hot97 family, you’ll hear the same thing over and over…Mega was such a nice guy, always happy to chat, and genuinely interested in how you were doing. But what I remember most about Mega is that when I would come in, bleary-eyed at 5:30 in the morning, bracing myself for the morning show….Mega would be finishing up his shift, and preparing to drive from NYC to Philly for his other radio gig. But even at that hour, his enthusiasm was a reminder…of how lucky we were to be working with the music we loved, with the people who inspired us.
That’s what Megatron shared. Our condolences go out to his family, and the 3 children he leaves behind.

We were so proud at seeing Mega fulfilling his dream.

definitely a terrible thing. but to see some of the comments people are leaving via the Daily News’ article is just disheartening.
We as people have so far to go when it comes to the basic functional principles of humanity.

Complete & total co-sign on that one! A man… A FATHER, a son, a friend, a HUMAN BEING murdered & all you see is hate filled rants against young Blacks & Hip Hop. And some of them by other minority groups as well man! Truly disgusting!
To be honest I knew who he was & saw him before but the moment you say 106 & Park my mind goes numb so i never really took him seriously. I kinda wish I would’ve now. God Bless him & his family! A terrible loss…

Senseless killings just make me shake my head like why people would go to that certain extent.

Man, i used to listen to him on Hot 97. I cant believe that his life was taken just like that.
I hope whoever did this to him, whenever they are caught, if they ever get caught, they are made an example out of. And that means, in the worst way possible. Rest in piece Megatron

I live in the UK but have family in NY, I knew of him through various contacts. On the behalf of my collective and crew in the UK, we send our love and condolences to his immediate and extended family. We hate to see natural talent cut short like that, we truly share your pain.

He was one of the kindest and most considerate person that I have ever known.
Always willing to help someone else with their hopes and dreams. One of his favorite expressions was Patience, Persistance and Prayer. I am blessed to have known him. I will send money for your children My Friend. RIP Mega. I will never forget you.
