About a month ago, I posted a video clip of Maino that ExecutiveNick sent over. It was a trailer for a new series of his webisodes.
But I also included a coded message to Maino, himself:
“(On separate note: Maino, hold ya head. You and your crew have worked hard and we all support you.)”

I had no intention on sharing the reason for the message, but its been definitely heavy on my mind, and now Maino has brought it to light.
Last night, he came back to NY-area after a long promotional roadtrip, and was booked at The White House club out in Hampton Bays, Long Island. During his performance of “All the Above,” you see Maino getting visibly overcome, struggling with emotional pain. And then he stops the music to tell the crowd what’s hurting him. Maino says “The police shot my friend in the back and they’re telling me he might never walk again.”

*sigh*

When you see Maino, you see his friend, his brother, 80. It’s an absolute, a given. But about a month ago, while Maino was out on the road, 80 was shot in the back by police in Brooklyn. He has been paralyzed ever since….

I’m not about to entertain any discussion about the circumstances, the past, or even the future here. I will only address how that would effect any real man, real human….especially one who has been working so hard and accomplished so much…..to bring himself and his brothers up from where they were just a few years back.

So now watch this footage, and then talk to me about what’s deeper than rap.

more footage of the moment, after the jump….
