Real Life: Maino shares his pain onstage
Posted by Miss Info under about miss info , concerts , crime , crony-ism , life beyond rap , quotes , relationships and family , sigh.... , videos[43] Comments
About a month ago, I posted a video clip of Maino that ExecutiveNick sent over. It was a trailer for a new series of his webisodes.
But I also included a coded message to Maino, himself:
“(On separate note: Maino, hold ya head. You and your crew have worked hard and we all support you.)”
I had no intention on sharing the reason for the message, but its been definitely heavy on my mind, and now Maino has brought it to light.
Last night, he came back to NY-area after a long promotional roadtrip, and was booked at The White House club out in Hampton Bays, Long Island. During his performance of “All the Above,” you see Maino getting visibly overcome, struggling with emotional pain. And then he stops the music to tell the crowd what’s hurting him. Maino says “The police shot my friend in the back and they’re telling me he might never walk again.”
*sigh*
When you see Maino, you see his friend, his brother, 80. It’s an absolute, a given. But about a month ago, while Maino was out on the road, 80 was shot in the back by police in Brooklyn. He has been paralyzed ever since….
I’m not about to entertain any discussion about the circumstances, the past, or even the future here. I will only address how that would effect any real man, real human….especially one who has been working so hard and accomplished so much…..to bring himself and his brothers up from where they were just a few years back.
So now watch this footage, and then talk to me about what’s deeper than rap.
more footage of the moment, after the jump….

If U reading this Maino……LISTEN! Docs always say shit like that. It depends on the strength and WILL of the individual. I worked in healthcare, just believe in your friend as U do in yourself, help them stay motivated and strong mentally & physically thru rehab etc, when they feeling sorry for themselves lift them up, etc. Its a GOOD possibility your friend can overcome a docs prognosis! They just estimate. Read your friend some medical success stories, there are MANY OF THEM! Keep ya head up!!!! 100

They give cops too much power. Since when is it ok to shoot someone in the back. Cops are the biggest gang out there. They steal and murder but they get away with it.

Interviewing Maino was one of the highlights of my 10-year-career so I definitely hear your words loud and clear Info. He’s truly one of the last of a dying breed in terms of hip-hop artists.
I wish him nothing but success and happiness for the rest of his career. So sorry to hear this story; him and his boy are in my prayers.

I’ve lost my two best friends in this world to gun violence, one of them murdered early last month.
I think the only thing worse than watching their family suffer, would be watching my homies suffer.
RIP E.D.
RIP Frog
Hold your head Maino, and I’m praying for your boy.

What is the back story on the situation anyway? I mean what was 80 doing when he got shot? Also he was shot in the back meaning he was fleeing the scene or the cops are crooked and shot him for no reason.

If any one should be crying it should be T.I. about how Maino blatantly swagger jacked “live your life” and made all the above.

After reading all the comments and watching the video, I can see all points of view. However, I have to agree with the post that asked the $64,000 about the back story. I lost my father to gun violence when I was a teen. So this is not new territory for me. All of us are guilty of rushing to conclusion without having all the facts. No, I don’t agree with anyone being shot in the back by cops or otherwise. However, why do we tolerate the same behavior from each other. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly we are to demoralize cops when we shoot and kill each other. My thoughts and prayers with with Maino, 80, and their “families”. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the haps….

As much as I’m not a police fan, I’m fairly sure they didn’t just walk up and shoot the guy. So let’s hear the rest of the story, what was he up to?

Genuine love for your boy, gotta love that. Cosign #15, we need to hate people in our community who do the same thing daily, f the cops. We all know how they get down….also why in the F are there 600 people on stage? This is way I only will go to a Jay-Z or Kanye concert.

First of all. R.I.P Sean Bell.
The Government needs to take responsibility for this wreckless behavior. I’ve seen police officers get excited on a “routine check” pulling people over while placing their hand as if to pull the gun from it’s holster. When it’s clear as day no such force is needed.
I empathise with Maino’s boy but at least they ain’t kill him. All you can do is try and get a physio coz life must go on.
The join all the above is hot.

If your comparing live your life and all of the above you need to think about the man that produced them both—Just Blaze..thats why they sound so similar.

#13……Y2DRE
SHUT THE F*CK UP U IGNORANT SLUT.
You read this post and the first thing that came to your mind was how this song sounds like T.I’s???
Thats the problem with these kids coming up these days (I’m 28). They don’t realize it’s real for some ppl out here. We not all running around in spandex jeans worrying about when the Yeezy’s drop. Some of us are going through real sh&t.
SMH…talking about “swagger jacking” when the point of this post was clearly not about a song.

I love the 1st video more. I haven’t seen an artist since Pac who was not afraid to show their emotions (all of them). The song alone is extremely motivating but watching this I get the chills. Maino will go far with his career and God bless 80. 1 love

this is too grizz and miss info.. griz.. it doesnt matter if he just sold weed coke crack or dope !!! whatever he was doing he got shot in the back which means he wasnt a threat or in a threating postion…miss info much respect for putting this story out there i personally know the story line and things thats not in the paper or being told and yes it is fucked up… All i can say is this is why people have to leave the hood when they come up even if they want to come back and shine or show love or just be comfortable in the place and enviorment they grew up sometimes you cant because if the hood aint hating the police are !

miss info Great post on maino. when he first came out I didn’t take him seriously now after seeing the documentary and listening to his album i gotta say he is one of the realest rappers out there. now i agree with u a little bit about there are good cops truth is there is very, very few of those cops everywhere today i know that because i am a Criminal justice major and those cops who are good are barely seen around.the bad ones shot maino’s brother and didn’t even think be fore the y pulled the trigger. a good cop would disregard writing a ticket or locking you up and telling you to leave if he seen u with an open container. All the above is a motivation song for me and probably for alot others Keep ya head up Maino and 80!! doctors arent 100% when they give their prognosis!

I was one of the DJ’s spinnin that night. I was on the stage up behind Maino while he was performing. I couldn’t see that he was crying at first but after he said the cops shot his friend, I asked one of the dudes he came with what happened and he told me his boy “80″ got shot about a month before that night and he was really upset before coming to perform and wasn’t sure if he could go on with the performance. But he did! He definatley killed it that night. He is a true artist. No fake shit, he is a cool dude.

I know I am a little late with this Miss info but I am up working on my book and taking a break. Anywho I just had to respond to this very post “Ehhhhh” made. Bro/or sis…He may have been up to something but he was not suppose to be shot in the back, the police had no right to shoot him in the back, I am so sick and tired of people making excuses for crooked cops. I suppose Shawn bell was doing something as well and I suppose my husband was as well. My husband “God bless the dead” was killed by cops he had no weapon, his leg was in a leg brace he had just begin to walk again from being in a wheel chair for almost a month. He was on pain medication. The cops ran up on him at the train station because they said he looked like someone that had just committed a robbery in another town. (mistaken Identity)he had just come from home. It was not by any means him. Long story short they put my 6ft4 250 pounds of muscle husband in a small cop car with 5 cops by the time they reached the 495 he was dead. I am not trying to make this about my husband what I am trying to point out is it really disgust me that these cops constantly is able to get away with such bull because of people like you. You really need to choose the way you comment. Badges dont make cops honest. His back was turned and the only thing you could say well what was the guy doing. Come on now.

Maybe 80 was carrying and he WAS a threat. Maybe there was shots fired and if there was, the cops have a right to use lethal force. If you don’t know what happened, don’t make judgments. Get the facts before ya’ll get heated and demand reparayshuns.
