Even after a week-and-a-half, the reactions to Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse continue to pour in. We’ve heard what fellow New Yorkers A$AP Mob, Joell Ortiz and Papoose had to say about K. Dot’s self-appointment as the King of New York, but now Wu-Tang legend Raekwon has weighed in on the debate. If you ask The Chef, the crown still belongs to Biggie, though.
All I’mma say is that n*ggas know he ain’t the king of New York. The king of New York to me is in the ground and that’s B.I.G. That’s the n*gga that came from the bottom with it for real, and really earned that positioning in the game to be called that.
Raekwon went on to say that Kendrick could never (ever, ever) truly be crowned the KONY, otherwise his own crown would be “on some King Arthur sh*t.” Despite refuting his claim, Rae gives the Black Hippy his props for bringing that attitude on the track.
Your darts supposed to be like that. It was good strategy, it was all a lot of fun. It’s hip-hop, man. Let hip-hop be hip-hop.
