Pusha T’s “Exodus 23:1″ Video: Scary, Ugly Drug Realism
Posted by Miss Info under about miss info , crime , new music , videos[63] Comments
When Pusha T dropped “Exodus 23:1″ last week, many rappers and producers looked at themselves and wondered, “Is he talking about me?” And in a few cases, complete non-targets were so paranoid they decided the answer was “Yes!” So now the song is embroiled in a Lil Wayne and Drake vs. Pusha T beef….(recap the 6-year history of tension between Weezy and Pusha).
But the video on the other hand, is not about hip hop subliminals at all. It’s about how unglamorous real life in the streets is. And how foul drug addiction is.
Director Samuel Rodgers, Pusha and co-editor Mike Carson (IllRoots) do a great job of driving that home.
Like….when Pusha raps alongside a pal who repeatedly snorts coke up his nose out of a folded paper scoop. *shivers*
Watch the “Exodus 23:1″ video
After the jump

Nothing fly about being a fiend. Avoid that at all costs.

I gotta question for everybody??
Has Pusha T confirmed that he was directing this track at anybody in particular besides the usual suspects: Drake, Wayne and Bobby Looboe?
Because its bad when somebody put out a track and EVERYBODY assume he talkin about you. Then to top it off ya boss jump out the window to take that bullet for you n fails drastically lol
So while everybody else is giving a play by play can we get some confirmation.

For me, thats why Pusha wins this situation regardless of what comes next from either side. Dude puts out a song, its vague in its shots but all of these guys immediately jump to defend themselves as if he called them out one by one.
Thou dost protest too much, Cash Money…

Ay! i gotta keep it 100 with yall, That Exodus track by Pusha T go hard. I listened to that shit like 3 times on my way to work this mornin. That nigga got flow, he aint Wayne, but he beast on that track. That nigga said: “round here we don’t play that, A to the K dat, spray dat, lay back, Fuck you niggaz playin games for, Don’t be scared, get everything you came for, “you can keep yo beef nigga, we much rather share yo bitch nigga, “bitch nigga”. Daaammmm. I respect real rap niggaz. Wayne need to really go at this nigga, on his own beat. I’m YMCMB till I die but Pusha T went in. All that subliminal bullshit we all talk(he was clearly goin at Drake and the pay schedule in Young Money). Now I wanna get on the track and go at this nigga, and IMMA BEAST FOR REAL, NO BULLSHIT. I wrote somethin to Pusha T’s track already in response to his diss.
(Chorus)
“Beef is when you niggaz is runnin, from anotha group of niggaz that’s gunnin”
“You niggaz done started some some shit, which is gone make it mo harder to quit”
“Beef is when you niggaz is duckin, from another group of niggaz thats bustin”
“Wayne gone expose you niggaz, I think YE’ shoulda told you niggaz”.
(verse 1)
“Nigga yo braids all fucked up/ I guess that mean yo pay all fucked up, ha”
“talkin bout you blazin guns, nigga you barely even makin funds/ you knw that”
“Peep the message im tryna send to niggaz, YMCMB will end you niggaz”.
“G.O.O.D music gotchu out there BAD, At you funeral they looked so sad”
“Career assasination nigga, yo life is an infatuation nigga”
What yall think?

This video is why Drake shouldn’t make video’s with SAG eligible goons and pass it off as authentic. This video is why catching bodies should never be in your lyric or flow pattern when you really don’t get down like that. Wayne knows better, so you would think he would have had this conversation with him.
Damn the whole video was dark and bleak and had an edge to it that an old Juvenile video has. I liked it, it makes and argument that the culture should never be mocked. I kinda wish this was directed to Rick Ross. When you glorify thug life and you obviously don’t live it, it can and will come back to bite you in the butt. My last comment on the subject, VA is a special place (Badnews specifically) You got Iverson,Quan,Vick etc, etc, the profile’s of the kind of men coming from that area(community) I think is clear. we’ve got a good size sample of how they roll. With that said, like Philadelphia, Baltimore or climate that resemble it. When you play gangsta it’s a bit insulting to those people who actually come from those communities. In music you have a right to artistic license, but when you glorify and exaggerate and mock those cultures. I feel like eventually it catches up to you and you are at risk of being devoured by that subculture. (it’s only so long fake thugs can pretend)

I think exodus is better though, it approached it from all angles, artist, stick up kids, hustlers, addicts and it tied it into a religious analogy. But you make a good point, they both are beef oriented songs.

@jreed how I gonna make a song using the same rhyme scheme and pattern like pusha? If u were a lyricist you would have your own style And not be biting the way pusha spit it. U basically just switched up some words and jacked the flow. Pusha t hasn’t even said anything since he released this song, all you Internet guys are doing all the talking, arguing, and insinuating what you believe lol. That’s why pusha is winning.

Pusha T clearly represented a lost form in hip hop….Probably since HOV. That’s to shake up the industry and have people say his name with out him saying there’s. There is nothing sublimal about this record if he clearly is getting responses from multiple artist. If I’m not mistaking I think he took his style back from ASAP rocky with this video. The bike. The braids. The givenchy. The “goons”. It seems as though he showing who the originator is…

Yeah. And Jreed. How tf you say you gone say you respect real rap niggas and then say you support lil wayne. The fakest of all. Just do a few google searches: “Lil wayne flag in wrong pocket” “Lil Wayne kissing birdman” and finally the biggest indicator that he’s not real. Search “Lil Wayne’s music”

Even tho some rap niggaz may be from the hood, What makes it cool for this nigga to go back to Norfolk(which is where i’m from) to glorify shit like smokin crack and all that, this nigga aint been back to the city in foreva, not to give back or shit. Pusha t a lame and a goofy for this dumb shit. Niggaz leave that life when they make it, not put it back out there knowin they aint bout that life no mo, if he is he dumb as hell, Nigga what you sellin crack fo if you made out by signing a deal, and what you niggaz fail to realize is, beef or no beef, this shit won’t be relevant in a month, he’s clearly goin at Drake and Wayne, which I dnt understand cause YMCMB eatin, no matter what kinda music they make. This nigga is irrelevant and dnt come at me with all that internet-thuggin bullshit, calling a nigga out his name and all that other fuck-shit cause it dnt faze a nigga like me, I caint see you and you caint see me, so why stunt. But back to regular scheduled programming, No matter what happens after this false beef shit, aint nobody gone die and YMCMB still gone be runnin shit cause not everybody wanna hear that thug, shoot em up sell dope ass shit, and dnt get it fucked up, I fuck wit all real rap niggaz, but why hate on Drake, that nigga never claimed to be hard or none of that shit, he stays in his lane, you niggaz take his lyrics and assume he tryna be gangsta, That nigga eatin(soft lyrics or not) and if Wayne wanna skateboard and rap, nigga he can, he supposed to give his hobby life because of what you niggaz feel he should be doin, thats that nigga life, he fuckin models and actresses with that same skateboard in his hands and one of the only niggaz sellin a million copies in a fucked up economy, and you niggaz choose to discredit him cause YALL aint bout that skate shit and metaphor rappin. So the fuck what, get yo bread right before you down the next nigga. Pusha T caint stop YMCMB shine, ask Lil Kim and Common. this nigga 35 on a bike handlebars, nigga grow up. Wayne got a Bugati and stupid cake, you think he concerned with what hoe ass bloggers think, specially those that are still strugglin after they talk shit about a rich nigga, thats like broke white folks coming wreckless at OBAMA. I fuck wit Young Money and so does there huge fan-base, can u say the same bout Clipse. Has dis nigga eva went platinum, and yall do realize Wayne affiliated with them blood niggaz for real, if he wasn’t they would wacked his ass by now, gang-bangers dnt play that false-flaggin shit, AT ALL.

I would like to school this young man on the intricate and delicate thing we call hip-hop. Money doesnt make you the best rapper. Period! Just cause album sales are high and your team is making the most in the industry doesnt make you better. Nas wasnt as large as jay z at the time there beef started. And nas clearly defeated hi. Hip-hop amongst everything in this world needs competition, a new face must emerge for the king to fall. Push T has been beefing with cash money for years. So for him to subliminally diss cash money means he is a lyricist and he wants to battle. This is the nature of hip-hop. I am not condoning people getting killed or injured, but the essence of true hip-hop in its rarist for is the most influential as two mc battle and th best is on top. If there is no “beef” and someone new to dethrone the cash money era, then music will be as it is for years, popcorn and worthless punchlines with little meaning. You have to be a young guy to write this you have no idea of what the essence of hip-hop is and you are the reason it has become worthless.

Thought it was just me who felt a certain way about the current state of Hip Hop. There used to be a time when the artist had to have some credibility to what they were saying not for the simple fact of keeping it real, but to properly express the emotion that is felt when we are out here struggling.

Pusha don’t rap bout selling crack @jreed you must be the most uninformed hip hop fan. If you really are from VA you would know Norfolk don’t play and if pusha not in the streets for real don’t you think goons would have run up on him while he filming? Pusha t raps about “pushing tons” hence the name, and understanding dope dealing makes bread but it kills the community. Listen to “I’m not you” It’s reality rap, authentic specific to his life music. Unlike Wayne drake and Ross. Key word there is “authentic”
It shames me to no end,
To feed poison to those who could very well be my kin (uh huh)
But where there’s demand, someone will supply
So I feed them their needs at the same time cry
Yes it pains me to see them needness
All of them lost souls and I’m their Jesus
Deepest regret and sympathy to the street
I see no pity for they fix when they kids couldn’t eat (so sorry)
And with this in mind, I still didn’t quit
And that’s how I know, that I ain’t shit (I ain’t shit)

I’m surprised more people didn’t make reference to ASAP Rocky with regard to the somewhat similar visuals in this video (especially with the still Info used at the top of the page). Am I missing something? Has Pusha T always wore his hat like that with his hair braided like that with golds on the bottom row of his teeth? (Asking seriously).
(Example: http://c438342.r42.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/asap-rocky-goldie.jpg)
Also, the part where he’s riding on the handle bars of the bike remind me of the Peso video. I know ASAP’s not the first nigga to ride handle bars in a video but he’s definitely the most recent, and before him I can only remember Snoop doing it.. and that was 15+ years ago. Again, I’m NOT trying to say ASAP Rocky (of all people) originated any of this, but that maybe (just MAYBE) Pusha wouldn’t be doing it if not for ASAP.
BTW, I had this song ON REPEAT since it dropped and the video makes me like it EVEN MORE. The more I listen tho I believe less and less that he was talking about any one particular person in the lyrics. I think he’s talkin about a bunch of different people actually (some we may not even know of) but since the ongoing beef is what we know then we automatically try and put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Let niggas tell it, sometimes 2+2=5..
