President Obama on Letterman: newsflash, not everything is racism
Posted by Miss Info under beef , good for humanity , laugh with , life beyond rap , quotes , videos[30] Comments
“I think it’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election…this is true. So the American people gave me this extraordinary honor, I think that’s says alot about where the country is at…one of the things you sign up for in politics is folks yell at you, but I think that what has been missing from the conversation is that the overwhelming majority of people, Republican or Democrat, I think they just want to see some common sense, they want to see some honesty and integrity in Washington. I think they’re turned off by the shouting and the yelling, and they expect more from their public elected officials…”
-Obama, when asked about former President Jimmy Carter’s statement that the angry heckling at recent rallies is rooted in racism.
(as soon as a clip of the full interview emerges, I’ll add it onto the post…)

even if the president did believe it was racism he could never say it because, he knows that dealing with that would be catatrosphic for the country, i think that it is racism, the majority of racism today is subtle not out and blatant like it use to be so words are being used that arent “racist” per say but peoples mind think of race when they hear them.

You missed the point. President Obama acknowledges that racism still exists. He has adressed it throughout his campaign. Should he come out and say yes this is racism, it’s judging a nation which is wrong there are a few guilty parties but it would be wrong to pass judgement on everyone just by association.
What we are dealing with in nowadays is, majority Vs. minority. I’m not talking about ethnic minority vs the greater majority but racists vs civil people.
There are far fewer racists than they were years ago. There people who will always be racist but there is a greater majority who embrace different culture and understand the benefits of interacting and exchanging ideas.
I’ve seen more white people get upset to be called racist than the ones who embrace it. The fact that he was elected proves that progress has been made but not mission accomplished.
However you have people like Rush, Bill O’rielly and Glen Beck who try to say things to be politically correct, but know exactly what they are doing to cause controversy for their own benefit.
I mean Rush Limbaugh said he wants Obama to fail. He didn’t elaborate, but he says such things for other racists to interpret it in their own way.
Making statements like a white kid can get beaten up in Obama’s America, white kids have been beaten up in Bush’s America not only that but black kids get beaten up in Obama’s America too but they say this stuff speaking to a specific audience who cause controversy if there wasn’t any financial gain we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

I would also like to commend Barack Obama for avoiding the trap these individuals tried to set for him.
Just brush that “Dirt of your shoulders” one time and it’s business as usual. They lost the election and this is one battle they are going to lose also!

I agree that Obama knows he could never say it was racist even if he felt it was. Racism manifests itself in bizzare ways when its forced underground and there are alot of people who are inexplicably furious at Obama and are afraid of truly thinking about why because atleast a part of it is because of his race.
Bus suggesting that a white person is a ‘racist’ is tantamount to a racial slur. Not the kind that is offensive because it is so untrue but the worse kind that is offensive because a part of the brain fears that it might be.
Obama knows if he wants to keep the country on his side he needs to not use the R word and stroke Americas ego by saying hes grateful that they let him (his black ass) be president. Whatever’s gonna get us some better healthcare, i guess.
Pack a vest Mr. President, Pack a vest.

I think the sigh is because a lot of what you said is rooted in truth.
I think he should just focus on the 70 percent of us who Voted for him and want real change.

Some of it could be racism some, just like some it could not. It makes no point to paint things with such a broad brush.
I mean, its kinda easy to say all of the anger stems from racism just like its easy for a racist to say all [insert race] people are [stereotype], is it not?

It’s Racism at it’s finest, every black person on the planet knows President Obama has to play the game and not alienate white people. It’s a smack to the face when people say it’s not racism, when to black people it’s very clear.

Unfortunately, in spite of progress you have to look at the roots of the nation. Race relations have NEVER been truly dealt with and handled. Not talking about some special “Black in America” on CNN but truly addressed on a governmental level. Truthfully I don’t know how or even if that’s possible but the fact is that this nation was born through this and even as we slowly see the passing off of power to those that might truly view all men as equal, those that had the power are not looking to give it up so easily.
Many times I wonder if this nation felt better with a president that the average man felt smarter then in comparison to a black man that is most likely smarter then the average American.

I think the heckling is 80% policy/20% racism. I may be undervaluing but the race card is used so often that I don’t always take the accusations seriously.
I think there are indicators that the situation is getting better. Obama won the election so obviously a majority of the people was willing to overlook race. Also, the same state that brought us the Jena 6, also elected the first Indian-American governor and Vietnamese-American congressman. This goes to show that even one of the most historically segregated regions can achieve milestones in race relations.
No doubt there is still an achievement gap and negative racial undertones but we’ve come a long way this last half-century and things should get even better.

I BELIEVE CERTAIN INTEREST GROUPS ARE USING RACISM TO GET THEIR AGENDA PUSHED…APPEALING TO THE ANTI-OBAMA CROWD AND RACIST PEOPLE THAT DON’T CARE WHAT OBAMA SAYS…THEY JUST DON’T WANT A BLACK MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE
I BELIEVE RACISM IS THE SHEEP CLOTHING AND REPUBLICANS/INTEREST GROUP ARE THE WOLVES TRYING TO GET THE MAJORITY AND WHITE HOUSE BACK IN FOUR YEARS

Um, But President Jimmy Carter is speaking about a specific element of these town halls, protests…etc. Apparently the worst thing you can do in this situation is call someone a racist, but people actually being racist isn’t adressed at all. Jimmy is speaking as an old southern white man..he is calling it like he sees it.
The element Carter is speaking of his very dangerous. Militia numbers have gone up and threats on the presidents life have gone up.
Yea it’s not all about racism, but don’t brush off the dog whistles being thrown about on the right. No we don’t have to derail healthcare and other important issues, but we better damn well pay attention.
Yea Obama has always been black but the people mad as hell aren’t the ones that voted for him, so there really is no point to that statement.
P.S. I hope we are all clear that Joe Wilson yelling “you lie” comes from no place else but deeply held racist beliefs. Read up on Joe Wilsons record and ties.

hmm, you make a good point. Joe could have just been yelling you lie because he stands at the opposite side of the political liberal/conservative/dem/repub spectrum….but there could also be racial aspects to his lack of respect which made him yell that out. I dont know. But I still appreciate that Obama doesnt want to get mired in that debate, and is taking the higher road for the betterment of all of the people who don’t agree or disagree with him because of race, but because of the actual facts of the matter.

Yeah..Obama isn’t going to do much talking about race especially after the whole Gates/Crowley incident.
Re: Joe Wilson. IMHO anyone that thinks Strom Thurmond is a national treasure/hero probably has a life long pass on the racist train. And you know he wanted to add BOY to the end of that. Then there was confederate flag issue with him…oh and how he treated the whole issue of stroms’ interracial daughter. He also had no problem giving money to illegal immigrants in 2003…so what’s really the deal, joe? Is it about the illegals or the president being a negro?
…but Obama, I kno u c it! he said he was a black man before this, so he just has to.

I call BS on this, why? Just google how much campaign money that dude raised after shouting ‘you lie’ from his own constituents. The people he represent agree with his action and guess what color their skin is….not to mention the confederate flag is flown at city hall in that same town!
Its all funny to me, the media is quick to say
“the racial divide in America no longer exist because Obama was elected”
yet they’re afraid to discuss issues of racism, and race period. Then you got people who are quick to say “you’re whining, pulling the race card” because you notice something that was either blatantly racist/ subliminally racist.

The picture is being painting in far too broad colors. This isn’t a perfect land of equality nor is it a Hell of racism on every turn.
Yes, racist extremist make up a small minority percentage in this nation.Even with their numbers on the rise their still a fringe group….BUT it only takes 1 man to pull a trigger. Then what happens?
There are far too many views and opinions .Most often if a skin head expresses himself he is dismissed but since this is America he’s free to express his views to those that believe it.
It’s hard to have both freedom of expression yet want to have racial equality. You either accept the presence of this ugly cancer or you physically remove it.

Freedom of Speech is ok, but if that speech(filled with lies) incites violence against the innocent, then it’s not ok.
For example if I speak falsely of you to someone who hates you, and they turn to violence against you(or your family). Do you still think its ok?
What people fail to realize what’s going on here. The people who hate Obama are not speaking the truth about him but are tellings lies, to spread hate and like you said it only takes 1 persons actions to change everything.

Wow… My first “Fuck Obama” damn a milestone… Anyway Fuck Obama on this one point. Distancing themselves from Pres. Carter is bullshit. He is telling the truth 100% and it takes guts on his part to openly admit the ‘reality’ of what’s happening. You DO NOT leave that man standing in the cold like that, that’s bitch-made. Everybody knows racism is the foundation for all this extra shit!! (Assault weapons @ Pres. speaking engagements WTF!!–and yes I saw Uncle Ruckus’ misguided ass w/one as well) I can go out on the street right now w/a muthafuckin megaphone sayin “Fuck Bush 4 Ever” and I will most likely be arrested (we all know this) but Democrats will let Fox News incite their audience into the next Civil War before they start bitch-slappin anything, IF they even do it then!!! So for right now Fuck the Obama admin!! Idiocracy is a virus.
