Police Report of Nicki Minaj Incident Describes a Tussle Over Property

It looks like TMZ’s track record for police sources remains intact. In the original post on the alleged Nicki Minaj hotel fight I mentioned that TMZ’s Dallas police insider should give up the official incident report so that we could get some clarity on the “source’s” claims. Well, they did just that. The report lists Nicki’s longtime friend/hypeman Safaree Samuels as the man Nicki was arguing with, and documents what Nicki told officers on Monday at the Palomar Hotel.
[#NOTE: The report describes Nicki’s argument with “Witness 1″ and then lists Safaree as an unnumbered “witness.” BUT, there are also 2 other witness who are listed. So the argument could have been with either “Rex Chevalier” or “Michael Frankel.”]
Now, in contrast but not complete contradiction to Nicki Minaj and Safaree’s recent tweets….a picture of an argument and tussle emerges.
“Responding officers spoke with the Complainant [Nicki Minaj], who stated a verbal altercation took place…at the pool. When [Minaj] returned to her hotel room, Witness 1 [Safaree Samuels] was also back at the room…[Minaj] told [Samuels] that she didn’t want him taking anyting out of the room. [Samuels] had some of his personal belongings in a suitcase, and as [Minaj] was looking into the suitcase, [Samuels] grabbed the suitcase and as he was picking it up, he shoved the suitcase across [Minaj’s] chin…“
More from the “offense report” after the jump…
After the struggle for the suitcase, the police report describes an injury to Nicki’s mouth:
“Responding officers observed slight swelling and redness to [Minaj’s] chin and lower lip. [Minaj’s] teeth struck the inside of her lower lip, causing the inside….to bleed….[Minaj] told responding officers that she did not want to make a report and that she just wanted her suitcase back….[Minaj] stated multiple times that she and [Samuels] were only friends and had never been involved in an intimate relationship and were not related at all. The hotel rooms…were rekeyed…and [Minaj] was provided with a key. [Minaj] refused to have any pictures taken and refused to make a police report.”
Compare this to the twitter statements from Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels:
Oddly, both parties lay the blame on TMZ, not the Dallas police leak. Which seems to be a go-to tactic for many stars. They both insist that there was no punching or slapping involved, and the police report supports this. But for the most part, the TMZ report does not differ from the police report, except for one key part: the original post doesn’t mention the struggle over a suitcase.
Question: Do you feel like there’s a difference between a man hitting a woman in the mouth, and a man having a tug-o-war over an item and then shoving it at the woman?
The injury, even if minor, is still disturbing….but is the intent the same?
Or do you feel that in all interactions between a man and a woman…no amount of physicality is acceptable?
Overall, I’m sure these two have argued over work or friendship in the past, so I wonder if the public scrutiny will create a permanent rift. Or if they’re work things out in private and act as if nothing happened. Seems like physicality between friends, co-workers, or lovers needs to be addressed head-on to make sure it become habitual.

but she never said she aint get hit in the lip she just said she aint get punched 😡 and it had sb has a witness not the person who did it

Can’t front TMZ tries to cover their bases (expected since Harvey is a Lawyer)…but they could have blocked her age too
she’s been dodging that 1982 for a min (that’s the reason she doesn’t give a specific age for when she came from Trinidad)
July 13th, 2011 at 4:51 pm
ok they had tug a war over a suit case, niki probley grabed harder an it hit her in her lip he dident swing with a fist and punch her, theirs a wayy big dif with the 2. i dont see the big deal couples get into stuff shit like that happends ,beating a girl and haveing a tug of war over something are 2 dif things but w,e lol
July 13th, 2011 at 5:11 pm
It’s Safaree Samuels, not Daniels. And it is pretty terrifying that he shoved a *suitcase* at her *face*.
July 13th, 2011 at 5:16 pm
Actually you’re very right. The person that is described as having the argument is called Witness 1, but there are 3 Witness listed and none of them are specified by number. I’m going to make that notation asap.
July 13th, 2011 at 5:57 pm
Actually she said in multiple magazines that she was 28 look at the people magazine most interesting people she said it then too and in another interview she said she graduated in 2000 so
July 13th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
And can I say I’m really starting to think it was NOT nicki that called the police in the first place obviously she didn’t want any of this getting out there thats why she wouldn’t take pictures or press charges …..but so pretty much when the police came nicki lip was already f’d up and when they asked her what happened that’s where this whole suitcase story came in …okay but anyway safaree should not be hitting nicki with suitcases if that is even the real way she got the bloody lip …I hope his ass don’t be hitting her but it’s sorta like nicki didnt lie but didn’t tell the full truth either she really could have addressed it better
July 13th, 2011 at 6:12 pm
If anyone is gonna get in trouble, it’s the hotel employee that gave out information to the press without hotel authority; giving out information about hotel room occupants is a breach of confidentiality. Nevertheless, I actually like them as a couple but the funny thing is that certain bloggers were running with the story about her getting punch in the mouth which isn’t true, secondly Safaree’s last name is Samuels, not Daniels as the report claims. Lastly, the report doesn’t even mention Safaree as the person who hit Nicki; it says witness with which there are 3 according to the report. My only problem is that Nicki shouldn’t have taken to twitter to clear the air rather her publicist should’ve been the one to address the public. Afterall, that’s why he/she gets a paycheck. I won’t be so quick to jump to the gun and assume it was really Safaree who actually “hit” nicki until the facts get straightened out.
July 13th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
why was his bitch ass taking her suitcase to begin with? he’s a sucka, dump his ass Nicki!
July 13th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
That’s terrifying to you? Somebody getting a little hurt by accident in a tug-of-war over a suitcase?
Let’s not pretend we know the details any more than what’s been reported and corroborated by the people involved.
July 13th, 2011 at 6:26 pm
Why is it “pretty terrifying” that he shoved a suitcase at her face?
July 13th, 2011 at 6:40 pm
why did you write “the argument could have been with either ‘Rex Chevalier’ or ‘Michael Frankel.'” and not include Safaree’s name? It’s clear from the report that the person she got in the fight with, she was sharing a room with. And she could be sharing a room with none other than Safaree. Why do you skirt around domestic violence issues like this? I’m disappointed that I haven’t heard any voices, strong or weak, condemning Joe Budden or Safaree for hitting women. Or “striking [them] in the lip with a suitcase.”
July 13th, 2011 at 6:53 pm
I’m glad to see at least a few ppl can actually read. So many ppl are saying Nicki lied on Twitter but she didn’t, she said no one slapped or punched her. She never said she didn’t get hit with an object. Anyway, it seems like ppl are making this SO much bigger than what it is.
July 13th, 2011 at 6:55 pm
….obviously I added the note to say that ALONG with my opinion that it was Safaree, it is not explicitly said so in the report, so there is always a POSSIBILITY that it was either of the two LISTED witnesses AS WELL.
July 13th, 2011 at 7:30 pm
I’m glad they put both of their assess on full blast. Nicki & SB were talking reckless on twitter, big mistake. The should have let their publicist handle it. Anyway Nicki thinks she is so damn smart & she can fool ppl. Who the fuck shares a room with their so called “assistant”? What part of the game is that? Everybody knows they are a couple, this fucking facade is real tired already. I bet you Safaree ain’t bragging about his fucking ice right now. They both are looking real stupid, and once again I’m glad they got put on full fucking blast. We knew you were 28 all along, it’s your little “playmates” that believes all the bullshit you feed them. I’ve been telling ppl that Nicki is phony & a habitual liar. I was NEVER fooled by her. #fullfuckingblast
July 13th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
Her recording artist career is coming to an end & the actress she always wanted to be is about to arrive.
July 13th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
You don’t read do you? He had some of HIS belongings in a suitcase but she was probably on some shit like “you not taking anything with you” like females can do sometimes. I don’t even see the reason why this is news. Even the report she gave does not say he slammed, pushed or threw the suitcase at her. If it was regular people it would just be an accident, but now everyone’s acting like it’s some big shit. Give me a fucking break.
July 13th, 2011 at 7:46 pm
And Info, don’t you think you are taking the “physicality” of the situation a little too serious? It’s apparent to me it was not done on purpose, he didn’t put his hands on her, she didn’t sustain any major injury. What is so severe or as you put it, “disturbing” about this? I gotten a busted lip messing around with my siblings. It’s really not that serious. I think if he was the one with the busted lip, no one would even say anything. They’d tell him to man up and get over it. But because it’s a female, Nicki especially, somehow this is “disturbing” to people. Come on. Chill out with that.
July 13th, 2011 at 7:50 pm
That’s funny. LOL. She thinks she’s so damn smart & nobody will know anything. TMZ showed you better than they can tell you. How’s that for fame?
July 13th, 2011 at 8:04 pm
that funny because every article I’ve seen she’s referred to herself at 25/26 or born in 84…(including her 10/2010 daily news piece and her xxl magazine cover sorry that had her as 25)….
those things were common knowledge
July 13th, 2011 at 8:10 pm
actually I think I’m not taking it too serious.
July 13th, 2011 at 8:53 pm
miss info marry me : ) lol
July 13th, 2011 at 8:55 pm
meg come on now dont be a drama queen
July 13th, 2011 at 9:00 pm
Personally, I find the attempt to cover up the incident more disturbing than the incident itself.
And the reason I’m a bit disturbed is that the attempt to cover up the incident may imply that there have been rifts in the past, hopefully non-physical.
July 13th, 2011 at 9:12 pm
Good point I didn’t look at it like that. They probably have been at it for a while. shes probably been suspicious of him for a very long time or hes cheated in the past. The amber pics just gave her the evidence she needed. How would i assume this? she goes through his phone alot!!!!
July 14th, 2011 at 12:56 am
It ain’t worth it! My soul ain’t for sale.
July 14th, 2011 at 8:58 am
Seems like a typical female. He probably wanted to bounce and she wasn’t letting him then things escalated. He probably didn’t even shove it at her, You know how when both people pulling something and one lets go the other swings the item widly, it was probably that type of thing.
I don’t think it’s in any way an assault situation.
July 14th, 2011 at 9:00 am
That’s not logical. Of course there were rifts in the past. No relationship is perfect. I’m sure you’ve argued with your friends and coworkers before haven’t you?
No body wants their personal business out in public.
July 14th, 2011 at 10:52 am
She got suitcase slapped cuz he wanted to take his belongings, just stand in front of dude nicki!!..lol..AND people everything is not a Chris Brown incident..matter fact..that was a moment of rage and a fight, everything is not a IKE TURNER incident, that was beating on a woman that was unprovoked and wrong. This domestic violence stuff is off the meter right now, chris lost his cool and messed up bad but dont think for a minute Rihanna didnt spark that with some blows of her own..nicki aint innocent by far…not sayin he shouldve nailed her but a suitcase versus fist…lol..smart move!!…
July 14th, 2011 at 12:12 pm
Co-sign my man. He was probably trying to get his shit and in the ensuing struggle it accidentally hit her face. Bottom line is, she was disingenuous. She technically only said she didn’t get punched or slapped, but in reality, she wanted everyone to believe that nothing happened and she wasn’t injured. I guess you don’t leave in a stretcher with your balls hanging off if you hit her with an object; that’s reserved for skin to skin contact. She should have just kept her mouth shut.
July 14th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Address the Budden thing though.
July 14th, 2011 at 12:43 pm
i dont think missinfo it taking it serious seems your the one going crazy over it lol
July 14th, 2011 at 3:54 pm
Really? Crazy over it? Show me where I’m going “crazy” over it please? I think it’s funny how people are making more out of this than what it is. And I thought the terminology she used of the incident being “disturbing” was a bit much. Because I don’t see anything disturbing about this at all. Two people got into a tug of war over a suitcase, one got hit in the lip accidently. How is that disturbing? Now Gucci Mane pushing a chick out of a moving car and then getting out of jail and people celebrating his release? That’s disturbing.
I’m sure Info doesn’t need you to protect her from little old me. It’s cool though.
July 14th, 2011 at 3:55 pm
EXACTLY!
July 15th, 2011 at 1:25 am
nikki’s first tweet literally made me lol. thats about as much as I (or anyone) should care about this. its a non story.
July 15th, 2011 at 1:51 am
Adults aren’t supposed to have tugs of war over objects. I wouldn’t call it terrifying in the way I would consider being, say, hit with a deliberately swung suitcase, but it does show a complete absence of forethought of the obvious danger of one’s actions. If you’re in a tug of war with someone who has less upper body strength than you, it’s bullying and ignores the likely possibility that the physically weaker party is gonna get hurt when you yank the tugged object out of their grasp or during the struggle (which they are likely to lose due to the aforementioned lack of upper body strength).
Unless the woman is Serena Williams and the man is Bushwick Bill, it’s a mismatch. And generally results in a bad ending, like this one, where someone gets hurt (usually the woman) and the police get called (usually on the man). As a grown man, you have to know there are consequences for your behavior and you are in a no-win situation engaging in a tug of war with an object with a woman. Defuse the situation verbally, not with a f**king tug of war. Men, be smart.
July 15th, 2011 at 1:59 am
You have the word “pimp” in your name, so that kind of hurts your credibility in evaluating whether a male/female incident is disturbing or not, since you’re comfortable naming yourself after a profession known for exploiting women. That’s like someone whose tag name is Sexual Harasser saying he doesn’t see the big deal with the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill case. LOL.
July 15th, 2011 at 2:03 am
Speaking of not reading, you might want to read the report again about whether he owned the suitcase in question or not. If he doesn’t own the suitcase, he can’t legally take it with him. That’s called stealing! LOL! He should have told her “Hey, keep the suitcase, let me get my stuff out”. If you can’t afford to buy your own suitcase, you can’t be mad when somebody asks you not to take it with you….and you certainly can’t get in a tug of war over something you don’t even own!
I have never gotten into a tug of war with anyone about anything in my adult life. If you’re not intelligent enough as an adult to talk a situation like this out without getting into a tug of war, you need a mentor in your life.
July 15th, 2011 at 9:34 am
@spirit equality so I guess your name makes you righteous or something? Please. The name actually is an alias that Big Boi from Outkast uses. Listen to DF Interlude (Track 7) off Stankonia. I thought the name was funny so I used it. Nothing really deeper than that. If you ACTUALLY knew me, you know I’m the furthest thing from an “exploiter of women.” But since you DO NOT KNOW ME AT ALL you are making judgement about me based on something that’s, honestly, insignificant.
BTW, I don’t like chitlins either.
July 15th, 2011 at 11:23 pm
Am I righteous? I’m smart enough not to get in tug of wars over suitcases I don’t even own. Or to defend people ridiculous enough to get in tug of wars over suitcases they don’t own, when they could open the suitcase and take what they do own out of said suitcase. LOL.
I didn’t say you were an exploiter of women, I said pimps exploit women; you made a conscious decision to use that name as your online persona. You could have called yourself The Son of Chico Dusty or Sir Luscious Leftfoot too, but you chose a name with the word “pimp” in it, one of the lower forms of human beings around. What’s funny about it? I’m not making a judgment, I’m making an observation.
Even your use of the phrase “like females can do sometimes” reeks of ignorance, when you’re talking about a group that consists of three billion people. So, three billion people sometimes all act in the exact same way? How ridiculous of an assertion is that?
July 16th, 2011 at 10:34 pm
If you actually read, you would see that his belongings were in the suitcase so I would venture to say he was trying to get his stuff out and she didn’t want to. It wasn’t a fact of defending or not defending someone but of questioning why everyone was so up in arms about something so small. I have messed around with my brothers and sisters and gotten a busted lip before. And guess what, no one called the police.
Do you listen to Snoop? Outkast? Too Short? Rick Ross? Pusha T? Jay-Z? Any other rapper that has referred and glorified pimps, hustlers, drug dealers, etc. If you have then you too have helped further the glorification of these “lower forms of human beings” by your understanding. I didn’t sit thinking about the the social ramifications of a name I chose to use on a fucking blog. Again, it wasn’t that serious. And yes, I found THE NAME, funny. And? You may be making an observation, it is a poor observation.
And females don’t get to the point where they get over emotional and sometimes act irrational? That’s not a reality? But I’ll give you that one. So I’ll change that to “like people can do sometimes.” Do you feel better now. Does that make you all warm and fuzzy inside? Good.
