Photo: Dr. Dre x Jay-Z in the studio. Detox session?
Posted by Mikey Fresh under Good For Hip Hop , Headcrack , Photos[52] Comments
Mikey: This week the internets was buzzing with rumors of a Dre x Hova collabo being leaked. Though, don’t have the music just yet, this flick might be an indicator that this record actually exists. Stay tuned. (Props UHTN)
MissInfo: Ok, I guess I should have said something before…but I kind of promised not to, and then I forgot about the whole thing. But around Feb. Twentysomething, I got a tip that Jay-Z was in the studio with Dr. Dre in Miami, working on Detox. So, I guess this was taken around then. Nice!

Perhaps it’s just me but does it not seem like EVERYTHING now gets this drawn out movie-like build up and the final product rarely lives up to the hype?????
*cough* *cough* Massive Attack *cough*
Just drop the music already.

The title of this post should be “50 Cent Caption This”
March 31st, 2010 at 7:55 pm
He’d say something like “Jay is trying to be in the same space, sonically that Dre, Em and I are in”
March 31st, 2010 at 8:01 pm
he’s taking the opportunity to depict the harsh realities.
March 31st, 2010 at 8:15 pm

March 31st, 2010 at 10:48 pm

April 1st, 2010 at 5:16 am
Dear Dr. Dre,
At this point, I don’t want Detox any more. Please just keep it. I’m good. Maybe we can work something out in the future where you release something in a way that allows me to cop it while I’m still interested. Call it a raincheck. But if not, I’m straight.
Thanks,
Katastrophee
April 1st, 2010 at 6:40 am
He’d be like “What Jay is ‘actually’ trying to do is ‘actually’ get on the ‘actual’ Detox project”
April 1st, 2010 at 8:13 am
its true, its been a minute for dre.I thought the firm album was hard.lol.maybe it was before its time
April 1st, 2010 at 9:35 am
Agreed! and certainly don’t want Jay on his first single.
April 1st, 2010 at 9:48 am
im mad you spelled that out.
April 1st, 2010 at 10:54 am
datz the ill shit about it…i actually liked n copped the firm album…its had 7+ bangers on there! n datz always been my rule if you got at least 7,8 bangerz on an album…you got a quality LP! but Dre shell shocked over what THE CRITICS, WRITERS thought!
i’m just sayin im sick of everyone giving him that “he just such a perfectionist” pass — naw!!! he scary, datz why baby sits on so much albums! thats why 80% of the people signed to Aftermath NEVER DROP! HOT OR NOT (see Joell Ortiz n the millionz of others)
bottom line it dont TAKE11 YEARS TO DROP A FUCKIN ALBUM FAM! DONT CARE WHO YOU ARE!
April 1st, 2010 at 10:57 am
Dre releasing an album is like the 2nd Coming of Christ. Everyone who mentions how close we are to its arrival sound like false prophets.
How many artist has this dude shelved because of bogus reasons. At this point in time I rather listen to a new Alchemist, HiTek or RZA (Killer Bees) album.
April 1st, 2010 at 11:14 am
This album will never live up to the hype. Never.
April 1st, 2010 at 11:55 am
Personally I wish he would just drop the damn album for this one reason and one reason alone. So all the haters and doubters would just shut the hell up, because face it you will buy the album as soon as you hear it.No need to try and front like you are tired of hearing about it, tired of waitin or just dont want it any more, your full of it and you know it. It will drop it will be hot and it will sell like crazy. This is Dre we are talkin about not some corny ass one hit wonder havin producer… the Quincy Jones of rap.
April 1st, 2010 at 11:56 am
It will live up to the hype and people will eat their words.
April 1st, 2010 at 12:21 pm

April 1st, 2010 at 1:42 pm

April 1st, 2010 at 1:55 pm
*SMH @ the idiocy in that line of thinking*
why do younger folk in the hip hop community continually bring up age of artists? do folk in the rock community or jazz community do such?
NO because those genres are alot older and most fans understand you cannot be too old for either LOL and a ceratin amount of respect is given, artists heralded etc..
hip hop is still very young, and it has NO age limits. The first generation that grew up with hip hop, knows this, and the potential for such a pairing.
April 1st, 2010 at 2:37 pm
like the hype about a BUSTA & Dre Album, RAKIM & Dre album, Joel Ortiz & Dre Album, countless Shady and G-Unit artist & Dre album(s)…won’t even mention his previous projects before Em and Chronic 2001, those duds went double-wood.
Reason why he blew with Em, cause of the white demographic and Em got skills.
Reason why he blew with Chronic 2001, SNOOP and nostalgia of 1993.
When was the last time Aftermath dropped something?
April 1st, 2010 at 3:20 pm
All I can say it Dr. Dre is the person that brought us NWA, Snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Lady of Rage, The DOC, RBX, elevated the careers of 2Pac, Xzibit Mary J Blige, and many others. Also brought us Eminem, 50 Cent, D12, G-Unit, Obie Trice, and I can go on so as far as his decision making, i’m not going to judge until he drops a bad project. Stop bitching!!
April 1st, 2010 at 3:31 pm

April 1st, 2010 at 3:52 pm
Get ya facts right dumass…half the artists u named biggest hits did NOT come from a dre beat so how in the hell could you give him credit for that shit? Elvated what??…obie who? Xzibhit who???…foh — if their music careers are “elevated” then u settin’ low standards dude! D-12 n obie have Em to thank btw, just as Em has Dre to thank — you know this! O n yea btw Mary n 2pac’s careers were going nowhere prior to “family affair” n “California love”…they were irrelevant artists that were on the path to NOTHING! Riiiiight! Foh dumass…n its funny how ur telling ME to stop bitchin!….n!gga that’s what im tellin’ the Doc — STOP BITCHIN, PUT OUT AN ALBUM MAN! Don’t you get that…who doesn’t know all that Dre’s done for the industry? Nothing new there boy…just stating my opinion which is the obvious!
April 1st, 2010 at 6:27 pm
lol i was just being sarcastic…
April 1st, 2010 at 9:32 pm

April 1st, 2010 at 9:48 pm
u do know that dre dont white his raps right ? jay-z wrote still d.r.e….
April 1st, 2010 at 9:55 pm
Co Sign. i’m 29 , be 30 soon and i am so sick of the kids…i feel like my generation ( mid 90’s ) we listened to the young rappers ( at that time) talk about slick rick , rakim , krs-one, ect… when though i was 6 in 86 , 7 in 87 , and 8 in 88 , when i was 14 in 94 i went back and listened to these guys that my favs listened to and guess what , i enjoyed it too. the last young dude I MY SELF herd shout out an “old school rapper” was Drake when he gave Nas a shout out…i blame these young kids for their ignorance on our public school systems…it’s easier to control stupid people
April 1st, 2010 at 10:32 pm
Shucks, some of these commenters suck. The picture is worth over a thousand words and a billion bucks, regardless of the track. Sad that people can’t be proud of a moment in time captured on a camera, and have to speculate on a track they haven’t even heard. Hate never takes a holiday.
Say something.
April 1st, 2010 at 11:21 pm
Two old ass men making some Hot ass music. Which part matters more people. Young people in hip-hop kill me. Like Jay-Z and Dre are supposed to do Jazz or Quiet Storm music because they over 40. Grow the fuck up kiddies!
April 1st, 2010 at 11:24 pm
LMAOH! You are FUNNY AS HELL MAN!
April 2nd, 2010 at 12:42 am
LMFAO!
April 2nd, 2010 at 7:14 am
ay man not all us youngans r disrespectful to the older generation, im 22 and constantly find myself diggin around in the 90’s for music, the best times they were, dre’s a legend, i rate his shit above most other, jus compare him to game, maybe the biggest rapper in the westcoast at the moment, whilst the documentary was one of my fav albums off all time, i dont think n e thing he’s done compares to Still dre, whats the difference, forgot about dre, next episode etc.
i cant wait for detox, i reckon it will be the best and biggest selling album since get rich or die tryin
April 2nd, 2010 at 7:18 am
last time aftermath dropped anything???? uuuum maybe 50’s 2 diamond albums???
April 2nd, 2010 at 8:45 am
I’m 35 bout to be 36 in June..and mt bad I should have said some younger folk, not all, because some have gone back to come forward, and are very much in the know, altho I cannot get with Young money LOL
April 2nd, 2010 at 5:23 pm
Meh.
The song/collab will sound like this:
Jay-Z will write some lyrics about how rich he is, how he is the best, how much money he has, and how nobody is on his level while name dropping Dre/Aftermath and Roc Nation.
Dre will make a beat with a piano, orchestral hits, single bass notes, offbeat clap/snare, and one chord progression.
I’m supposed to be geeked off that?
April 2nd, 2010 at 8:27 pm
The success of those albums were based on Em’s fans and 50s notoriety. Think I’m lying then explain this:
“”Back Down” and “Heat” were instrumentals originally composed by Rakim and Dr. Dre. They were both originally intended to be used on Rakim’s debut Aftermath album, Oh My God, but due to creative differences was not released.”
50 already had a crazy buzz in the streets and in the industry so he got more respect towards creative control of his projects, do the knowledge:
“21 Questions” was not inlikes to be on the album to Dr. Dre, he stated that he did not want the song on the album. According to 50 Cent, “Dre was, like, ‘How you goin’ to be gangsta this and that and then put this sappy love song on?'” 50 Cent responded saying, “I’m two people. I’ve always had to be two people since I was a kid, to get by. To me that’s not diversity, it’s necessity.”
Dre was actually going to scrap 21 Questions. No telling how many songs got thrown in the trash. Either Dre has a creative handicap where nothing he produces will ever be great/classic or he got a lot of people in his ear making him doubt his skills.
Lets not pretend like Dre doesn’t have ghost producers working for him (e.g. Hi-Tek and countless others). Dude could’ve been put out Detox and put an end to all this BS production I hear on the radio.
“Right now, without sampling in hip-hop,” RZA says, “it’s really a soggy-ass form of music.”
