Pharrell Compares Frank Ocean To A ‘Black James Taylor’
Posted by Mikey Fresh under quotes , videos[3] Comments
Skateboard P was full of quotables when we talked last week. In our last clip that will make to VIBE.com, P compares Frank Ocean to a “Black James Taylor.”
He’s super talented. To me he’s like the Black James Taylor. He’s lyrical—he’s got a great perspective and super sick melodies. I haven’t seen anybody bob and weave through chords with such catchy melodies in a long time—that’s why I liked working with him.”
Pharrell says they worked together on Ocean’s album after meeting at Coachella.

pharrell is always trying to use this kind of hyperbole. james taylor is a damn genius composer/guitarist/lyricist. frank ocean isn’t even as good as r kelly (who is a genius in his own right). have frank ocean write something like “long ago and far away” then come holla at me. pff…a black james taylor.

Black James Taylor? When Frank O wins 5 Grammys and writes songs like:
Fire And Rain
How Sweet It Is
You’ve Got A Friend
Then, and only then can we talk. For now, Frank’s the black Frank Ocean.
