From the depths of Bushwick, Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg were finally able to track down O.C. for the latest episode of Juan Epstein. And, there was a sh*tload of hip-hop nerd gems in there. Together, they discussed how O.C. got on and his childhood friendship with Pharoahe Monch, his relationship with Jay Z, why passed on getting down with Puff and more.

I bet most people don’t know that he almost missed out on catching a hefty check from Eminem using “Time’s Up” in 8 Mile. Apparently, someone at Shady originally only hit Buckwild for clearance. It wasn’t until after the movie came out that O.C. realized the song was in it.

I was geeked for this one. OC is one of my favorite 90s legends and I have never heard him talk. Ciph and I were lucky enough to get his story including his relationship with Jay-Z (deeper than you might realize), being MC Serch’s other protege with Nas, Diddy wanting to sign him, how him and Big L were actually just starting a group together when L passed, and how Time’s Up was originally a Pharoahe song that he took for himself. Laura Stylez also rolled through earlier in the episode.
