Nicki Minaj Tells Tim Westwood: No More Twitter, and I’m Thinking of Leaving the Game (Exclusive Audio)

Ever since Nicki Minaj deaded her twitter account, cutting off nearly 11 million followers, many of the extremely active members of her Barbz fan community have been frantically trying to figure out if this was just a temporary hiatus? Like a social media time out for some fan sites that angered her?
Meanwhile, Nicki has been in London doing press all week, along with her right hand man Safaree, and new team addition Manny Hailey (Keyshia Cole’s former manager). She told UK TV host Graham Norton that a “voice inside her head” told her to delete her twitter page.
But when she sat down with my UK radio boss, Tim Westwood…Nicki was much more blunt. Not only does she seem adamant about not re-activating her massive twitter account, but she also talks about “leaving the game.” All of this delivered in a mix of British and Lil Wayne impersonation voices.
Tim gave us two exclusive snippets of the Nicki interview which will air on the Tim Westwood Show, this Saturday 9pm-11pm (London time) on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

I haven’t checked her sale scans yet, but given her reaction to the album leak you might be right she prob hasn’t hit gold yet. I think her being off twitter would do her some good though (give her some down time out of character). That’s what drove Lauryn hill into isolation and that was Pre-Twitter era . Niki has to be in character all the time. Twitter is suppose to be fun, random and entertaining; shes taking it too serious. she suffers from multiple personality disorder in my opinion which is why twitter has become her own worse enemy lol

Its under 500K… she hasn’t even hit 400K yet… it was less than 300k first week… sales went down 70% after the first week… pushed around 80K the 2nd week. She’s doing most her #’s over in the UK… which isn’t even 200k…

Yup, hip hop to me I dont know, for me it was 94 to maybe 2006 or so, after that I kind of lost alot of interest in hip hop.
Maybe I’m just getting older or what but back in the day you had Wu, Mobb Deep, Jay, biggie, Pac, Dre, Snoop then on to Em, 50 etc, it just got weak real quick a few years ago.
Now its all Wayne and Nikki and pussy rap like Drake and shit. to me it started to suck when the south took over and now the hottest dude out is like a fake ass cop Rick ross.

This is what happens when a record label isn’t offering their artists enough guidance. YMCMB is probably the most talented roster in rap music, but it seems like they are just signing artists then releasing albums when the artist feels it’s finished instead of giving their opinions on the music. This leaves the artists to rely on their on their circle to give them advice. Drake has 40, The Weeknd, and other producers/artists to help him. Nicki has SB, Madonna, and her “Barbz”. The saddest part about it is Nicki is probably too far gone in believing she is a superstar to allow someone to put her under their wing and give her some real guidance.

I completely agree. In fact, the contrast between her extravagant grammy performance and Adele’s performances was staggering.
Adele was there to perform music and didn’t need any theatrics to do so.
Nicki had a whole bunch of theatrics and the music got lost in the shuffle.
At the end of the day it all comes back to the music and true musicians stand the test of time by the quality of music they deliver.
I give Nicki props for all the moves she’s making but the music quality simply wasn’t there’s on this album.
It’s too bad record labels don’t invest as much time into developing an artist anymore.

I agree with a few points on here, her music has certainly changed but we gotta face it- mainstream makes more money. I’m a black girl and back when she was doing her beam me up scotty and mixtape promo etc not much of us would have bought that but we were still hardcore fans. We would only download it. Its the little celebrity obsessed girls that buy albums so that’s who she has to design her album for. She’s lovely, I met her on Thursday and I honestly have a lot of love her. What I am glad about is the fact that Nicki Minaj obviously notices the negative feedback and the generally feeling that people aren’t feeling none of her new shit.
She tried to exploit the fact that she went back to rapping but the truth is, you didn’t go back to rapping…. U are a pop barbie doll that stands for nothing!
I had mad respect for Nicki and I was routing for her right from The Come Up DVD right through to her 1st album… Even though her 1st album was largely still pop production I still defended her as being versatile….
Nicki has people thinking they shoulda routed for Kim with there squabble lol.. Ok maybe not but we thought we were backing the better lyricist, cause I still think Nicki can spit but shit… New shit is ear rape material.
Only things that gets continuous respect in Hip Hop is lyrical ability, ability to put out a hit or standing for something undeniably powerful. Nicki has the ability to accomplish the 1st two but she has been yet to show what she stands for and I think people can see right through that, how u gonna be the only female voice in the game getting heard and aint saying NO empowering shit for other women.
LOL I just wonder if she is gonna change the formula now that it didn’t go aswell as planned.

I don’t understand, when did it become cool to lick the artist arse and lie to them. I hate Tim Westwood for this stupid interview and edging her on with this dumb Barbie shit. Let me first start off by saying I ‘used’ to be a fan of ‘Mixtape Nicki Minaj’ rapping on the stairs, pitting fire and flowing nicely to the “Warning” Beat by Biggie. I thought finally we have someone to go hard and represent women, and she is good too. I was routing for her, when people where dissing her, I was excited that she was going to get the chance to finally ‘Blow’ with her Debut album, however the first few track I heard I was disappointed immediately.
I understand she wanted to make the crossover and get that ‘Mainstream’ money but she cheated us Hip hop fans, and now imp started to think she was a gimmick from the start???
It also annoys me that Tim is sitting there blatantly lying to her face and saying this is straight HIP HOP baby. If this was a dude rapper or someone else big in the game right now, i’m wondering would he still be saying the same thing? Its time for Us Hip Hop heads to stand up and say we aint having this no more. Why is this cool to put out a CD categorised as ‘Rap’ on Billboard and half of it is ‘POP’…Yeah I said it. I never bought the album I heard snippets of it, while driving with my kid sister, who was struggling to find a decent song to drive to at the time. I was embarrassed because the CD sounds similar to PINK FRIDAY. I hate this new ‘Nicki Minaj’ and everything she represent at the moment. I cat stand the big ass bright wig and the clothes, lets be HONEST, the majority of her FAN BASE now is KENS and Barbs who knew nothing about, ‘Beam Me Up Scotty, Its Barbie Bitch, and when she was rapping on the staircase.
