Last night, local authorities were called to the upscale Palomar Hotel in Dallas, Texas by an employee per Nicki Minaj’s request following an alleged altercation at the hotel’s pool. According to the report, Nicki got into a verbal argument with an unidentified male she was staying with. The spat moved to her hotel room where she told police the man hit her in the lower lip. When police arrived the unknown man had already left the premises and Nicki asked to not file charges on the attacker who she stated is not in a relationship with.

UPDATE: Dallas Police Dept’s Kevin Janse confirmed to the Dallas Observer that a police report from the incident exists but that “it’s currently unavailable because no charges were filed.” So far Nicki’s reps have not made any statement and Nicki has ignored the incident on twitter, choosing to talk about her Dallas performance on Weds instead.

UPDATE 2: Nicki says she’s good money…

MissInfo: Ok…so in spite of those who would have me jump to condemn or exonerate anyone within 5 minutes of a news report surfacing….I wanted to see how the chips fell on this disturbing story first. That’s how I keep from “hindering my career.” (sublim alert; )

After the jump

Here were my red flags from the original TMZ report:
1) Nicki Minaj, an international rap/pop star with a full entourage…would ask a hotel employee to call the cops during a public argument? This would come before trying to get into a private place? Seems odd. I wonder if a hotel employee saw Nicki and a man arguing and called the cops on their own accord.

2) TMZ’s police source alleges that Nicki told them she was hit in the mouth, but insisted that she did not want to press charges, and that the man was not her boyfriend. Why would she tell them that she was hit at all if the goal was for police to not press charges? That makes no sense.

3) If police were called to the hotel for a domestic violence incident, then especially in a high profile case like this, they would be very reluctant to leave without questioning the man because that could backfire on them. Unless they were convinced it wasn’t serious. And yes there are many cases when a woman victim refuses to charge her attacker, but wouldn’t cops at least want to cover their a– by talking to both parties?

4) Having been around Nicki and the folks in her immediate entourage, I wondered if TMZ was referring to Nicki’s longtime bestie, hypeman, and rumored beau Safaree. But since that was never confirmed in the reports, I don’t feel comfortable blaming him without knowing for sure. Not to mention, everyone I’ve talked to agrees: the dynamic between them ranges between confidantes, siblings, boss-and-employee, and princess-and-knight….but Nicki always seems in charge. An attitude she reinforces in her response tweet.

Things that still leave room for questions: Dallas Police did make an incident report, so it’s not just an idle rumor from a hotel maid or something. And TMZ has a pretty good track record with police sources. (So police source should be able to provide TMZ with the incident report?) It didn’t help that Nicki’s response didn’t come out until today, especially since Safaree must have be getting much flack. But maybe she just wanted to focus on the concert.
