New Music: Rihanna “Russian Roulette” (written by Neyo)
Posted by Miss Info under life beyond rap , new music[28] Comments

I spotted this on my homie Lowkey’s site UHTN (Oops! I just noticed that Mr. X had sent it to me first! thanks X!) ..The first single off Rihanna’s upcoming Rated-R album.
Rihanna “Russian Roulette” (written. by Neyo, prod by Chase and Status)
Hmm, I was hoping for a high-energy hard-edged first look, that would reflect Rihanna’s recent visual style…so this rather slow-building power ballad feels cloying. But its just a first reaction…
I can’t wait to hear more of Rihanna’s new music, and her style is always fascinating and on point….What I’m curious to see is how she and her team will handle the press onslaught, seeing as how promoting the album will mean finally addressing the Chris Brown incident….(Speaking of which, my girl Angie Martinez will have Chris Brown on her show on Hot97 on Weds….must hear radio ; )

Neyo gives her the same types of songs all the time…this falls along the line of Unfaithful and Take a Bow..its a decent song and I know the pop stations are gonna techno it up later on for dance-ability… it should do well until she drop her hip hop/pop track

This song sounds like it belongs on a movie soundtrack. Its a very good song by the way, it just reminds me of background music of a movie as it blends vinyette(sp) from beginning to end to tell the story.

I like this…Her vocals have improved some. You can hear the passion in her voice. Not too bad.

This is pretty good Neyo is doing for Rhianna What Baby face was suppose to be doing for Whitney back in the day. I’m actually looking forward to the new Rhianna joint she’s grown up a lot.

Very well written record. Neyo delivers early and often. Make you wonder what’s going on with a person when they put records out like this?

The song is definitely a grower. Info I remember you not being too fond of either of Beyonce’s singles when they first cam out because they seemed recycled (I felt the same way.) I think it’s interesting she didn’t start out with a club banger bcuz we have Gaga, Shakira, Britney and Bey doing that right now so her track stands out. Ne-Yo’s sound isn’t as over-saturated like it once was so it’s not redundant.
I like it a lot more than Alicia’s single which hurts a bit to say.

very well said.she will stand out because of this.and i think thats where shakira fucked up with that she-wolf stuff, she shoulda done some spanish type song instead of pop because right now thanks to gaga its too saturated.alicia’s joint is good but its the same thing she always does.

You don’t know how much I’m disappointed in Shakira’s new single choice with Timbaland and Lil Wayne. She has so many good song choices that would’ve been hits and would’ve been different than the “Jersey Shore/Glow Stick” music that’s out right now. When she first came out she was a different Alanis Morsette type. Now she’s a Columbian Britney Spears.

Now I know why she took so long to work on the album. Her voice has improved.

I listened to this 15 times today. I really like the lyrics and she doesn’t sounds as annoying as always. I too think she has grown adn I actually prefer this track over the “Jersey Shore/Glow Stick” music ..

For some reason, when I read the name of Rihanna’s new album, Lyrics of Fury started playing in my head

This record is crazy!!! This is a great single. Not every single has to have an upbeat tempo. Rihanna’s voice has definitely improved and you could tell in this song. She is coming stronger and harder since the fight….

It does sound like a typical Ne-Yo track, but it’s not a bad song…

Guess I`ll be the lone dissenter. -_- Her voice doesn`t do it for me. Never has, never will. No one was waiting (the wait iz ova?), the song is a snoozefest with good production. Wait until she preforms it live, then we`ll see if her vocals have gotten better. I doubt it.
