New Music: Pusha T feat. Diddy “Changing Of The Guards”
Posted by Mikey Fresh under new music[4] Comments
Even Puff Daddy (I felt like it) is taking notice of Pusha T’s lyrical abilities. On the opener to his upcoming 12-track EP, Fear of God 2 (Nov. 8), Diddy lends his signature adlibs and shit-talking to the ears of P’s listeners. (Pre-order your copy of Fear of God II here)

The homie JLP and Sneeze released another piece of their Pusha T interview?
You’ve worked closely with Pharrell and Kanye, what’s the difference between their process of putting a song together?
Pusha: Working with P it’s like, by the time you get to the studio the track is there. And an idea is there and we might go back and forth to try and find the hook. With Kanye when I get with him it’s more of a blank canvas, starting from scratch. He has the idea beat-wise, he’ll give me that I’ll write to that, the part that I like lay it down. Then he takes it from me. And then he builds this whole roller-coaster ride around it. It’s more of a surprise because like I said you don’t know what he’s thinking. You don’t know what he hears, he hears shit you don’t hear, I know I’m going to run into a problem of demo-itis, where as like I’m married and in love with what I’ve heard, and he comes back and changes it.

I like this very much. Over the years Pusha has grown as artist and thus my appreciation for him. He is only of the only rappers that gets away with unapologetic drug talk. At least to me if doesn’t come of as phony (see: Nas Escobar). Of course I don’t believe his narratives occurred. I think we are at a point in hip hop that this hardly matters unless you claim to be 100% a street nigga.
I love the way Pusha does it. Its mature, intelligent and at the same time subtle. He’s not in your face overly animated about it. So to me it doesn’t matter if he is out there cooking coke or just chillin’ at home, Imagining this narratives. At the end of the day we only care about a good story and we need to move away from having a guy have to prove how much of a ‘real motherfucker” he is. It puts pressure on them, it’s silly and it inhibits true creativity.

Let me just say i completely agree w/you I’ve always enjoyed not only pusha but malice materials as well.not only do they have an uncanny gift to tap into drugs raps but they can also give you the religious paradox while still keeping a hip hop perspective.
He’s waiting to long to drop fear of god 2 though (unless good muzik has plans to actually put the fear of god material on the market). The blogsphere is at a crack head pace right now far as music consumption; he needs capitalize while hes hot before he cools off.
