New Music: Kelis “Acapella”

Here’s Kelis’ first “comeback” single, “Acapella.” And by the sounds of this, the new mom is going in the direction of straight dance, no urban. Her voice sounds nice, the track is borderline spin-class, but I like it. A dance in your socks song. You can read Kelis’ message at her IAmKelis site. (thanks to Tracy for the heads up!)

There was a house song(I dont remember the name of it-the song used to have like a thunderstorm in it, with thunder and shit)from around 1989 that she looped to make this song. When I 1st heard the beginning, this shit gave me chills. They used to pump the fuck out that song(shit was dumb hot when ur high) at the undeground, NYC when house/hip-house was HUGE. funny how house it has transcended into what they call today’s techno…
This song’ll prolly do well world wide, in like those big clubs in ibiza, and germany. the track is cool.

The producer did not use this as a hook at all. It bares a resemblance but that track was definitely not sampled. Bad ear.

I seriously doubt that was the case with Kelis…millionaire. I don’t think that alimony was a life time deal hence the need to release new music. BTW this song is a NO GO! And payola…indeed because someone is getting paid to promote this WHACK sh*t! The singing is definitely not good!!!

kelis is dope and this track is dope. kelis influenced a lot of these new chicks out here today. if you don’t get caught into all the media gossip bs about who she fucking, what she wearing, baby daddy drama and whatever…. the music is DOPE. i caught on late to her stuff but people should check out her body of work and you’ll see how much females been biting her style

Kelis is nothing more than carbon copy of the European music scene/fashion scene. If she did not spend the peek of her career smoked out of her mind she may have been able to capitalize off her unique sound and look at that time in the American market! So as far as chics copying Kelis you can see on any given day chics in Harlem who dress like Kelis. And you can’t hate on those who took the European style of fashion that so many Americans thought Kelis was the originator of and made it more popular than Kelis could ever do in her 10 year career! Kelis is now 30 years old and a mother and what she did not utilize can’t be no ones fault but her own! This techno sound been out Madonna, BEP and many other artists had/have this sound on their albums via the European music scene. Kelis has also used this sound many times throughout her career so this is nothing new! I know Kelis’ body of work but her reign has past for me. This song is definitely geared towards the European market besides you have to get in where you fit in!
