New Remix: Kanye feat. Jay-Z “Power (remix)”
(thanks to 2DopeBoyz via InFlexWeTrust)
The RockabyeReview already posted a lyric transcription!….I haven’t checked it yet, but let me know if there are corrections:
(Jay-Z)
Is this thing on?
Oh, I thought they silenced us, Ye
Power to the people
Rumble, young man, rumble
Life is a trip, so sometimes, we gon’ stumble
You gotta go through pain in order to become you
But once the world numbs you, you’ll feel like it’s only one you
Now you got the power to do anything you want to
Until you ask yourself, “Is this what it’s all come to?”
Lookin’ at life through sunglasses and a sunroof
You have the power to get out from up under you
Fuck Rollies, labels, fuck what everybody wants from you
They tryna Axl Rose you, welcome to the jungle
To be continued, we on that Norman Mailer shit
In search of the truth, even if it goes through Taylor Swift
Tell her this
……
(Kanye)
Now when I walk in, everybody do the “Power” clap
Clap, clap, clap
Fresh for the club, I just took a half an hour nap
Clap, clap, clap
I seen people go crazy on the whole world, an hour lap
Clap, clap, clap
My socket was out the plug, now it’s time to get the power back
Clap, clap
I seen people abuse power, use power, misuse and then lose power
Power to the people at last, it’s a new hour
Now we all ain’t gon’ be American Idols
But you can least grab a camera, shoot a viral
Huh? Take the power in your own hands
I’m a grown man, doin’ my grown dance
I don’t stop until I see the end, my vision clear, bitch
I’m on my Van Gogh, I don’t hear shit
No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, fuck that, the world’s ours
And then they
And then they
And then they
And then they
And then they
And then they
Now everything I’m rhymin’ on cause a Ramadan
Been a don, prayin’ for the families lost in the storm
Bring our troops back from Iraq, keep our troops out of Iran
So the next couple bars, I’ma drop them in Islam
They say asalaamalaikum, wa’salaikum asalaam
That’s no Oscar Mayer bacon, you should run and tell your moms
Now the question is, how we gon’ stop the next Vietnam?
Keep Flex out of Korea, ’cause you know he drop bombs
……
(Swizz)
Showtime!
Hey, yo, Yeezy, stop playin’ with these people, man
You know what I’m talkin’ ’bout?
(Kanye)
What do it mean to be the boss?
It mean second place is the first one who lost
The crucifixion, the being nailed to the cross
Truth or fiction, it’s a hell of a cost
Do the dishes
I’m ’bout to hit that Jeff Gordon
Michael Jordan, the only one more important
But I be feelin’ like Jordan when I’m recordin’
‘Cause every time I record, I duck to slap the boards
I don’t know what these rappers gon’ do after wars
Prolly spaz like I might do at the awards
Huh, I got the whole crowd goin’ crazy
Homie, I should be rewarded
Gettin’ money, Yeezy, Yeezy, how you do it, huh?
Eatin’ Wheaties, drinkin’ Fiji, bein’ greedy, huh?
Don’t even think you can allude to the rumors
I’m immune to the booze, I’m a prude to you losers
It’s all in time, my nigga
See, I dreamed my whole life that I could rhyme with Jigga
Now Jay my big brother and Bey my li’l sister
And excuse me, but, you can’t see my li’l sister
Number one sound across the board, hey
Number one now and forevermore, hey
Number one rule is niggas don’t hate
Maybe I’ll drop the album, nah, all y’all gotta wait
And on the ‘Net they showin’ pictures of my Cali place
My Maybach in NY, but it still got the Cali plates
All my old girls know that I’m the one that got away
I think about at Christmas, and play some Donny Hathaway
And keep my bulletproof hater coat on
Lookin’ at some photos that I’m lookin’ crazy dope on
Hand up, talkin’ shit, yeah, I get my Pope on
And go home wit something to poke on
That’s what Dre said, but this what ‘Ye said
How ‘Ye doin’? Who ‘Ye screwin’?
That’s for my dick to know, before you get to know ‘im
She ain’t give you ass? That pussy fictional
I gotta give her the eviction note
‘Tis “Get yo’ ass out, bitch, vamonos”
Five seconds to the song, and we gettin’ close
I got the power, ma’fucka, if you didn’t know

August 20th, 2010 at 12:48 am
From 3:26 on should be its own track, just add 2 more verses to it.. Beats foolish, flow is foolish, I wanna fight someone…
August 20th, 2010 at 12:59 am
I think Kanye killed it once again . Kanye is just pure genius
August 20th, 2010 at 1:00 am
Gar-bahj
August 20th, 2010 at 1:01 am
I’ve been guilty of playing this too many times. HOTDAMN!
August 20th, 2010 at 1:04 am
hot DAMN This shit was fire BEFORE 3:30 when the beat switched, good lookin Info!
August 20th, 2010 at 1:13 am
Epic! I just fell in love with hip hop all over again.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:17 am
the beat switch up is a lil odd lol. but the lyrics is good.. i like it. i wonder how jay feel about Ye sayin Eminem & Nicki Minaj are the number 1 & 2 rappers? #randomthought LOL
August 20th, 2010 at 1:39 am
Swizz x Kanye makes for an incredible combination
August 20th, 2010 at 1:44 am
Well done.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:22 am
meh. song doesn’t move me. It’s more of the same-ol, same-ol pop rap we’ve been getting from Jigga and Ye for a while now. Watered down flows, watered down rhymes, and constant harping on “me, me, me!” with sprinkles of what they own and buy.
and this is supposed to be the resurrection of hip hop
August 20th, 2010 at 3:25 am
Now the question is, how we gon’ stop the next Vietnam?
Keep Flex out of Korea, ’cause you know he drop bombs
August 20th, 2010 at 3:34 am
Horrible. Garbage. Shameful.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:59 am
They should put Wiz Propane on da joint
August 20th, 2010 at 4:49 am
What is pure hip hop? Do your homework. Hip Hop has ALWAYS been about bragging. Whether its Busy Bee, Kool Moe Dee or Grandmaster Caz they was always talking about how many bitches they ran thru or the amounts of cashin they pocket. Lets not get all mightier than though on that back pack stuff. Hip Hop was never about being humble. Im not saying all rappers should be arrogant dicks neither but for ppl to say this isnt real hip hop, you dont know half the story.
August 20th, 2010 at 7:33 am
THAT JUST FELT,…GOOD! THAT WASN’T A HOV VERSE THOUGH, IT WAS A WARM UP. THIS DUDE OPENIN FOR YE NOW, LET ME FIND OUT.
August 20th, 2010 at 7:38 am
just remember you will half to sale your soul that is why hip hop is dead

August 20th, 2010 at 7:38 am

August 20th, 2010 at 8:04 am
WOOOWWWW……LOVE IT!!! that end part…had me HYPED!!! DAMN
August 20th, 2010 at 8:22 am
Ehhhhhhhh… Aiight.. Was so-so for awhile, then got annoying and boring.. and then became hot.. The remix should’ve just been the Snap sample, cuz Kanye did go off at that end. Prior to that was just the same ol’ same ol’…..
August 20th, 2010 at 8:27 am
I think Ye should of just went with the original beat or used the Swizz Beats switch-up for the entire song. On another note, I think this dude Scoop DeVille has started a trend with his sample selection/style.
August 20th, 2010 at 8:35 am
……I would have rather heard Jay go in on that faster beat.
August 20th, 2010 at 8:59 am
@The Ronald not everything jay kanye put out commercially is fire i shm sometimes the the way music is forced fed/payola to us lol its like were are chicks and they injecting us with the hormones to have to music grow on us (chickens)
August 20th, 2010 at 9:03 am
with all this talk about selling your soul dont you think it would be easier to get on you discount peoples talent and hard work its like if the person is underground unsigned struggling its cool once they get a buzz and start making away they killed their mother or took an oath or worship the devil come on now and at the end of the day how did that effect you ? you deal with more racist things in your day to day life
August 20th, 2010 at 9:26 am
kanye west ripped this shit
August 20th, 2010 at 9:47 am
I wanna stand on a couch and splash liquor (‘all about da benjamins’ days..) when this ish come on lol
August 20th, 2010 at 9:53 am
LMAO!!!!!! ME TOO! RETARDED FLOW!
August 20th, 2010 at 10:04 am
Good Gawd! One man shouldn’t have so much power!
August 20th, 2010 at 10:05 am
What is your gripe with it?
August 20th, 2010 at 10:14 am
Of course hip hop has always been about bragging. And that’s a good thing. I love that about hip hop! But then it evolved to a point where people did more than brag. They actually had interesting things to say, or bragged with a style nobody bragged with before, came in with dense and crazy rhymes, spoke on intelligent shit, WHILE bragging.
Then pop rap came and devolved everything that made rap cool. It’s like some accountant came about and was like: “Ok, so we’ll throw out the soul, add some rock guitars, simplify the flows, and ramp up the marketing!” So now we get mainstream acts who do nothing but brag about girls, money, cars, etc in the most mundane way.
Great bragging with memorable lines and beat: “Keep It Thoro”
Shitty, corporate bragging with lame beat and watered down flows: this song.
Get the difference?
August 20th, 2010 at 10:18 am
WHAT?!?!?!? I needed a horn for that one. FIYA!!!!!!!
August 20th, 2010 at 10:54 am
you heard the Taylor shot? …thats what it was about cause Kanye cant say to much about it so his big bro is in defense.. what if Hove smacked lil momma he would be wrong right… same as taylor same disrespect
August 20th, 2010 at 11:45 am
Ok so is it just or does Jay-Z cadence and deliver sound like 50’s flow especially his flow on Flight 187 and his adlibs on Crime Wave? Wait but its dope when Jaz-O Jr does it hahahah whack ass fake music fans..
Yeaahhhhhh!
August 20th, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Nah chief, I just listened to both those songs and there’s no resemblance.
August 20th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
Swizz is a fool for the “I got the Power” sample. LOL Ye Bring Chicago back in the picture.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:22 pm
It would be the internet if their wasn’t someone in the comments section telling us all how much better things used to be before something came along and ruined it. I’m going to make it my life’s goal to build a time machine so I can drop all you mother fuckers off in the year of your choosing.
I’m sorry but I’m really sick of the complaining. Thanks to the internet you have access to more varied forms of music and entertainment than anyone who has ever lived in the history of the world. So why don’t you use your tremendous access to find something you like instead of lecturing us all on how shit was so much realer in 1993.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
What happened to proper grammar structure, like capitalize the first word of every sentence complete or not. Know the difference between have vs half and sell vs sale.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Okay, I’ll say it… this shit is wack I dont care if he sounds like Pac, 50 or whoever… I aint feeling Kaney new shit…I aint buying it…

August 20th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
lol co-sign these dumb fanatics just have nothing better to do ,,,just ask him what is he doing in this world? what will history remember him for and what is he doing for his community
August 20th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
norman mailer…. rap is not even relevant anymore, and the next rapper who references john updike, james joyce, jasper johns, or david hockney will have put the final nail in the coffin of this genre.
this is so absurd. who the fuk is their audience now, english professors? lol. it would be like metallica referencing the o.henry award. i guess jay z has finally run out of ways to craft rhymes about having to sell crack as a wayward youth.
yo son! i’m gettin my william faulkner on right now, my nig!
get thee to a nunnery, bitch!
i’m so sick of rap. it’s all nouveau riche, pseudo-intellectual, hyper- commercialized bullshit now.
has any other genre of music become more gentrified than rap has?
August 20th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
You make a good point… but we have to take the good with the bad. There’s no middle ground if they aint wack like sojah boy they try too come off intelligent as hell… personally I rather hear intellectual type lyrics instead of that B.S but it depends… if I’m at the gym I don’t want to think too much so give me that B.S
Ps. I still think this is a wack song…
…shake-off your masters, pray to god build your mind faster ©Lupe Fiasco – BMF (Building Minds Faster)
August 20th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
You’re point is duly noted, but there has to be a range for hip hop. It can’t be one type. There has to be at the highest the hyper-intellectual and at the lowest Wack as Fuck Flames.
It’s necessary to have this diversification. If not, I’d stop listening to hip hop after Hardcore East Coast died off in the early 2000s
August 20th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
cool s**t
August 20th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Kayne smacked Jay with his dikk on this one…
Ye Body slammed Jay like a mexican wrestler, luchadorrrr…
Ye made Jay look like the Old George Foreman, flimsy and sick…
August 20th, 2010 at 7:17 pm
@J Will –
I think that motorcycle craSH got your head in shambles. It’s only rap cretin. Either way – you underestimate the size and intelligence of the audience; and, their ability to easily gather info like who norman mailer, john updike or whatever contemporary you spat. With the advent of the internet info is not exclusive to the bookshelves of smart dumb kniccas like your self.
August 20th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Greatness.
That’s what this remix is…
Greatness.
Read the lyrics people if you aint catch what these brothers said…. I’m speechless.
Greatness.
August 20th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
guess i’ll just go back to listening to aquemini. you can have this power remix.
August 20th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
You cats out there hating on this song, are probably the type of cats that can’t see hip-hop beyond the underground. If you can’t understand that it is about entertainment and expression, then you cats need to stop listening to music.
Ye and Hov killed it, once again!
August 21st, 2010 at 12:21 am
lmao at “yo son! i’m gettin my william faulkner on right now, my nig!
get thee to a nunnery, bitch!”
that’s what I’m trying to tell these cats. Hip hop is irrelevant as f*ck. It’s also whitewashed as hell. Hip hop doesn’t exist in mainstream form, and hasn’t for at least 5 years now.
like you said, they can have their power remix which they’ll listen to for 2 days before getting bored, then on to next I-tunes single. Stuck in a constant cycle of mediocrity. I’ll keep my Illmatic, Supreme Clienteles, and all that.
August 21st, 2010 at 1:43 am
Did you even listen to the song. Hov and Ye talk about so many different topics it’s ridiculous. Namedropping Norman Mailer, Van Gogh, Axl Rose, discussing the war in Iraq, rapping 2 lines in Islam! Plus throw in a bunch of lines about bragging and fuckin bitches. This song has it all.
And how is the beat watered down. I thought the original Power kicked hard and this shit just turned it up 100 notches. Not to mention, he just dropped this shit FREE OF CHARGE. There’s a reason hov be talkin about the 31st Century, this shit is the future.
August 21st, 2010 at 1:49 am
The reason I love Supreme Clientele so much is because it’s the closest thing the hip hop world has to James Joyce.
Were you guys hating on Talib when he namedropped Mailer on Get By
and the Power remix is fire.
August 21st, 2010 at 10:12 am
Remix was dope until swizzy jumped in n changed the beat n killed it n not in a good way
August 21st, 2010 at 10:49 am
DAMN I JUST KNEW EVERYONE WAS GONNA GO AT JAY VERSE EVEN THOUGH ITS BETTER THAN MOST VERSES ON THE RADIO AND KANYE STARTING VERSE THATS WHY YE KEPT GOING HE COULDNT END AFTER HIS FIRST VERSE IM TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING JAY IS WACK OR TRASH CAUSE IF THATS SO NIGS NEED TO START LISTENING TO RNB. JUST SAY YOU DONT LIKE THE MAN BUT U GOTTA GIVE CREDIT JAY IS THE GREATEST. ITS OBVIOUS KANYE FELT THAT WAY AFTER HIS FIRST VERSE. KANYE WAS SUPPOSED TO GO HARD HE WAS ON 90 PERCENT OF THE SONG WHAT DO YALL EXPECT. AND YE HAS BEEN STEPIN UP LATELY MIGHT BE THE BEST OUT RIGHT NOW BUT HELL U GIVE ME 5 MIN TO RAP ON 6 MIN SONG AND MY VERSE WOULD BE THE BEST TOO. HOV THE GOAT!!!!! HATERS
August 21st, 2010 at 11:44 am
Info – Lucky me, I caught it on Flex as I drove into NYC from out West on a 2 day drive. When Flex played it, I thought, this man is the KING of tags! I clicked on the link just so I can count how many bombs Flex dropped on it, but lo and behold, you have the clean version up.
Guess I’ll wait to the next Funk Flex exclusive….:-( (sarcastic)
August 22nd, 2010 at 3:02 pm
