New Music: Joell Ortiz “Outta Control” (Kendrick Lamar Response)
Posted by Mr.North under New Music[88] Comments

The first MC (not mentioned) to respond to Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical attack on Big Sean’s “Control” is none other than Joell Ortiz. The Brooklyn-native fires back at TDE’s own and other listeners who forget why Slaughterhouse’s one of hip-hop’s best when it comes to straight raps.
“This ain’t no different, I’m listening, you the King of New York?/ Little homie you ain’t the king of New York, you the next thing on my fork.
When we met you said, ‘It’s an honor man, the Yaowa can spit’/ Maybe that’s why you left me out of that shit/ Maybe that’s why the Slaugtherhouse ain’t get dissed/ Or maybe I’m not on your radar, you feel you ain’t gotta acknowledge my clique.”
Fittingly, Hot 97’s own Funkmaster Flex premieres our first response.
Listen to Joell Ortiz’s remix below….

He’s just mad that slaughterhouse wasn’t mentioned. Get him outta here! NY doesn’t fuck with Joell like that… & I have as many solo albums as him & I’m a 5th grade computer teacher that’s never rapped in his life. Moving on…
August 13th, 2013 at 4:30 pm
Clearly looool and house gang are the same person….and they are both wrong

Cant lie Joell spit on that still aint touching Kendric but he set that shyt high for the NY rappers.
August 13th, 2013 at 4:36 pm
Kendrick did exactly what we needed, forced rappers to put down there IMAGE and pick up there LYRICS! Real hip hop!
August 13th, 2013 at 4:37 pm
I give Joel a B+ for responding first. But i hear theres a line of MC’s out of NY up next. You can’t be mad at Joel my dude is official with the bars. Good day in Hip Hop stay tuned
August 13th, 2013 at 4:38 pm
BODIED!!! Game Over!!
August 13th, 2013 at 4:39 pm
Joell is dope. And this response was dope. He called Kendricks a$$ out. I love the fact that ni**as cant form their own opinion and say whatever everyone else say.SHEEEEEPLE *Alex Jones voice* He got bars. And he gave it to us fresh off the press. Yall corny ni**as take ya dickriding outta here.
August 13th, 2013 at 4:40 pm
it was a hot response to a hot challenge… was kendrick bodied?
naw.. but it was still the first response to a situation that’s bout to be considered hip hop history..
props to ortiz for being the first….shit was fire….and hopefully anyone who’s planning on dropping a response hear’s this and realizes that if it ain’t up to par to this response….
keep writing
August 13th, 2013 at 4:42 pm
Hard! Joell went in!
August 13th, 2013 at 4:43 pm
This is sick! Can’t wait for more responses. Hope this beat gets demolished by the end of the day
August 13th, 2013 at 4:44 pm
It’s nice but joell just ain’t relevant enough to go at Kendrick….. who’s next, postaboy?
August 13th, 2013 at 4:49 pm
Get yo dumb ass outta here Tryna diss Ortiz he bodied Kendrick y’all buncha Kendrick dick eaters….computer geeks and back packers y’all are what made hip hop watered down
August 13th, 2013 at 4:49 pm
Brooklyn Rap. New York Always does it Better Hands down like a Muslim in Prayer…
August 13th, 2013 at 4:59 pm
How was this wack? this is more than a Solid first response.. straight bars.. This is hop hop!!! .. they’d dap each other up if they saw each other.. I LOVE where this is going.. Let’s go!! who’s next..
August 13th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
Ask yourself this…..Where was all these bars before Kendricks verse!?!!?…should just be happy he bodied that verse…Now we might get some real Hip Hop going now!!!….Next Up????
August 13th, 2013 at 5:05 pm
Ok, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Kendrick did not get bodied, but this is a solid response.
Let’s hope this inspires NY rappers a wee bit more to bring the business and not wait for a west coast rapper to stimulate rawness.
August 13th, 2013 at 5:08 pm
Thank You! I’m glad somebody said it. That KD verse was not that hot.
August 13th, 2013 at 5:08 pm
1st out of the 4 corners of slaughterhouse to murk this shit.. Joell bar’s was sick if you can comprehend the double metaphors and the swag and smooth delivery the other responders have there work cut out for them…I wish cassidy was as good at song writing as he is freestyling i would love to see him body thethis shit with them extraordinary bars!
August 13th, 2013 at 5:12 pm
The homie Yaowa bodied this shit!!! #BROOKLYYYYYN
August 13th, 2013 at 5:13 pm
Thank you Joell Ortiz.
August 13th, 2013 at 5:13 pm
That’s why NY is dead. Just read the comments calling the track wack. New Yorker’s does not support their own people smh
August 13th, 2013 at 5:14 pm
I don’t know he goin at Kendrick New York hip hop isn’t what it used to be, it don’t have that flavor anymore…everybody who come out from there want to sound like they from the south
August 13th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
WHAT!? Boring? StrugglerRap? F_O_H already FOOL! TF y’all haters talkn bout? you’ont know hiphop or what?
August 13th, 2013 at 5:18 pm
To expound upon my earlier comment.. This aint godly or nothing but someone had to step up and respond first and this was beyond descent.. If you say “joell bodied kendrick” or “this is wack” you are a certified goofball.. He accepted the challenge and he didn’t make a fool of himself.. again strong first response and i LOVE where this is going.. who’s next!
August 13th, 2013 at 5:24 pm
YAWAAA
August 13th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
Bout dam time.. good response bac.. now we need Joe Budden, Cassidy, Hov, Jada, Jcole etc to respond back. Lets see who the real MC’s are this week. Whoever doesnt will just talk on twitter and interviews cuz they are afraid of competition. This new era is soft.. took a westcoast nugga to bring bac the golden era.. Sad..
August 13th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

Thank you Kendrick…I hope everyone that got mentioned, can come as hard Joell. But I just don’t see it happening…Maybe that’s why Slaughterhouse didn’t get mentioned. NYC!!!! Who’s up next?
Kendrick didn’t get completely murdered cause Joell kinda ripped the same “type” of dudes that KD did and telling them to sit back.
Love the line: “My main chick is a precious, my side piece is a Riri”
August 13th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
Bang!!!! So much truth….
August 13th, 2013 at 5:39 pm
You don’t know what the fuck your talking about.. NY FUCKS WITH JOELL ORTIZ my nicca are you crazy. Maybe your lame ass don’t but he one of the nicest out of NY right now. You have homework to do get off the internet!
August 13th, 2013 at 5:41 pm
J Ortiz killed this all yall K Dot d**k riders
Can eat a D**k I cant wait for Wale to smash this.
August 13th, 2013 at 5:42 pm
Long story short…bar for bar, TDE don’t want it with Slaughterhouse!!!!
August 13th, 2013 at 5:47 pm
This is a C effort that gets bumped up to a B- because he stepped up and responded first.. It’s average but average isn’t really bad .. you cant really be giving A’s out to just anyone..
August 13th, 2013 at 5:56 pm
I didnt read all the fuckery above but I spotted the words “Styles P” and knew ur comment was worth reading. I am a Jamaican woman who has never lived in the USA and I grew up on AUTHENTIC hip hop. Joell is very much relevant. These ppl clearly listen to mainstream gimmicks only. NY is hip hop and I need NY to reclaim its position on the throne
August 13th, 2013 at 5:58 pm
i bet they dont know what else he said in that verse! say rapper names and he spazzed? Naaaaa
August 13th, 2013 at 6:01 pm
if you listen to Slaughterhouse like that your opinion is null and void.. He stepped up, no doubt. but at no time in my day would I put on a Slaughterhouse record to get it poppin..
August 13th, 2013 at 6:06 pm
Yo lil b better respond next shiyts gone end it straight up
August 13th, 2013 at 6:12 pm
damn styles and joe budden going at it now? kendrick dropped the game on its ass lol
August 13th, 2013 at 6:15 pm
Ortiz verse was better then Kendrick (Lyrically, word play wise and feel)
August 13th, 2013 at 6:20 pm
Son you straight hatin… You don’t even believe yourself.
August 13th, 2013 at 6:24 pm
Whack? Are y’all kidding me? This is not whack Joel Ortiz spit that fire!!
August 13th, 2013 at 6:26 pm
niiiiiice
August 13th, 2013 at 6:28 pm
It’s not an A. Joell got side tracked with other shit in his verse. He didn’t need KD to mention his name to come with quality work.
August 13th, 2013 at 6:30 pm
With all due respect, nobody cares Joell’s. You’re in the way. We’re waiting on the kid from Toronto, the kid from NC, the kid from DC, and the dope boy from VA. It’s quiet for the rest of y’all. Fall back and let the young guns so work.
August 13th, 2013 at 6:30 pm
keep your lame ass metaphors to yourself.
August 13th, 2013 at 6:31 pm
I would hate to see all the dudes that got mentioned to be like, “Yo, he really wasn’t dissing us, he just want’s everyone to be the best they can be.”
Yay!! Yay!!! that maybe true, but have some damn pride in yourself and work.
August 13th, 2013 at 6:33 pm
Wack, how is that? He is going in. I like Kendrick Verse and I feel it will just have Emcees step up. TRIBORO been doing that 7 Years Strong. #Good4HipHop
August 13th, 2013 at 6:37 pm
Regardless of whether you think joell killed it or not, kendrick has mainstream america right now and they’re gonna ride with him regardless. And us missinfo.tv readers might be biased being mostly from ny lol.
August 13th, 2013 at 6:37 pm
He went in!! But what is new? We have to step up to the plate NY and stop trying to sound south!! this is the mecca, That’s why I’m glad i’m in TRIBORO, we keep it lyrical and true to the craft! this is all #Good4HipHop if you ask me. Now the Bars can be the focus again!!
August 13th, 2013 at 6:56 pm
Who takes the cake is subjective. All I give a fuck about is that lyricism is back in the spotlight!
August 13th, 2013 at 6:58 pm
I’ll give him a C+ to B- for being the first to respond and in under 24 hours but there isn’t a single memorable bar in there.
August 13th, 2013 at 7:11 pm
give credit where its do Kendrick is hot and the verse is bananas. Joell verse is hot and get madd respect for the quick response. real emcees don’t run to the internet they go to the studio and handle there’s. and its not about dissing its about competiveness.
August 13th, 2013 at 7:59 pm
real talk homie. The only ones dissing this Joell response are the cats that are brainwashed and know nothing of the essence
August 13th, 2013 at 8:08 pm
Tha kid was spitin’ flames on this one, the competition has begun!
August 13th, 2013 at 8:34 pm
C, a million responses with minimal standouts
August 13th, 2013 at 8:57 pm
Joel killed it… he bullied k.dot too. besides if you listen. Carefully big Sean had a better verse word for word.. he beats kdot on dat track… yall shut the fuck up or u get shot the fuck up… yall know drake would only do a love song on that beat.. besides u should really listen to what Joel said before u say thrash
August 13th, 2013 at 9:01 pm

August 13th, 2013 at 9:09 pm
The nicest out of NY? Stop it 5! Ortiz doesn’t put out enough material to be the nicest of anything. He ain’t even the nicest out his clique.
August 13th, 2013 at 10:38 pm
NY..don’t fall victim to this never ending misconception. The city birthed a music/artform and shared it with the world. The crown shall forever remain yours!!
The hip hop community has no idea how far reaching the culture is..no idea!
Is is this about who struck first, last or true skills. Joell hands down..word play metaphors and rhyme pattern killed this track..Kendrick was good too
August 14th, 2013 at 12:59 am
Like he said an inferno will scortch a bondfire.
August 14th, 2013 at 1:58 am
Joel went in
August 14th, 2013 at 2:33 am
You might be brain dead. Can you remember Kendricks bars… can you remember bars at all??? Idiot!
August 14th, 2013 at 4:10 am
joell’s verse is better lyrically but kendricks verse is better overall because of the effect its had on hip hop and the intensity of the verse, and like it or not hip hop has never ever been about lyrics alone!
August 14th, 2013 at 4:24 am
certain mcs been barring for a minute but not really getting that shine but there is about to be a shift in hip-hop, even if its only temporary but there is about to be a shift. nice one kendrick. i also don’t doubt that there will be mcs/rappers that come out with better verses than k dot lyrically but they will always have to remember that if it wasn’t for kendrick’s verse they wouldn’t even be spittin’ like that. there’s leaders and followers.
August 14th, 2013 at 9:08 am
Joell killed that. I would have to assume that anyone claiming that verse whack or a “C” doesn’t know much about rap at all. They’re probably bumping the new Kanye album while trolling the comments.
Joell killed it right there. But I give Kendrick mad props for starting a new phase/movement in the game.
August 14th, 2013 at 10:44 am
Both bodied it…K had the biggest shock value w the King of NY ref and addressing fellow rappers but in my opinion Joell had a higher count of crazy bars. And to come back with something that crazy in a matter of hours vs K having a while to prep the song is crazy. At the end of the day K gets it bc he set the bar and you gotta knock the champ out to win. You can’t just beat him by points. Especially with the impact he made.
August 14th, 2013 at 11:08 am
Hahha agreed!
August 14th, 2013 at 12:53 pm
You sound like a fucking idiot
August 14th, 2013 at 2:00 pm
Has anyone seen or heard that complete solo album from Joell that can top Good Kid Madd City? I’ll wait!
Until then, who gives a fuck about his response. That’s all it was, a response to a dude who’s on top of hip-hop right now!
August 14th, 2013 at 2:02 pm
Fuck Joell’s word play. Tell the nigga to put out a complete album that ends up on top of the charts and radio like Good Kid Madd City.
Until then, Joell and his verse can suck a dick.
August 14th, 2013 at 8:55 pm
You act like all those kids arent friends
August 14th, 2013 at 10:38 pm
What does putting out an album have to do w/ thus response? Joel is a known lyricist part of slaughterhouse who holds his own w/ the best of them…. Just b/c Kendrick had a solid album and made to the mainstream doesn’t make him better. Didn’t know this was a popularity contest.
August 19th, 2013 at 2:35 pm
kendrick has too many fans. too many who won’t admit he’s way over his head and got bodied!!!
September 2nd, 2013 at 1:31 am
Oh Mehn. He did it again lyk he did it to Immortal Technique Yop. Joell aint no sucker for life bt hez a real dude fucker for life* whoa wait a minit. Kendrick Got Murdered Like My 2 Year Old Dog Son*
November 7th, 2013 at 1:57 pm
HE HAS TALENT.. JUST NOT THAT MOVING OF A RESPONSE. COUPLE OF NICE LINES… BUT I THINK PEOPLE NEED TO LISTEN TO MORE MUSIC. ANYTIME YOU LIKE SOMEONE THAT GETS NO RADIO PLAY DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE GOD MCEES, LOT OF CATS NOT GETTING PLAY BETTER THAN ORTIZ. ALOT OF CATS NOT POP OR MAINSTREAM AND AMONGST THEM HE DOESNT IMPRESS ME.
