Drake Debuts “Dreams Money Can Buy” Off His Upcoming Take Care Album (Updated)
Posted by Mr.North under Good For Hip Hop , New Music , Things I Love[38] Comments
MrNorth: Two songs in less that five hours? Drake releases some more new material that’ll appear on his upcoming second album Take Care (not the single, I’m hearing the intro). Take this in as he has a story to tell in “Dreams Money Can Buy”. Note: The homie Nation from NahRight just confirmed what I’ve heard that this indeed is the intro to Take Care says this was supposed to be Take Care‘s intro but now it may not make it on the album at all.

A song that I felt the need to share. Not my single. Just a piece of my story. Hear me out though…

MissInfo: WOW! I love this subtle song is….not the SummerJam stadium shaker that I was expecting (we still have a few weeks left for that. Or maybe Drake’ll debut it onstage), but a great peek into the mood of Take Care. After I tweeted that 40’s haunting beat was more perfect for the bath than the car…
Nick Catchdubs (Fool’s Gold) sent over this headcrack…The source of 40’s sample is “BTSTU” by a Jai Paul, a new London artist/producer on XL Recordings (home of Adele and Odd Future).
This s–t is crackling!
Update 1: Compare and Contrast: Drake’s “Dream Money Can Buy” and Jai Paul’s “BTSTU” after the jump

What do you think? Thanks to Catchdini for the catch ; )
Photo of Jai Paul. “BTSTU” is available on itunes and his debut album is supposed to drop on XL Recordings this year. More on him here.
Update 2: For anyone silly enough to think Drake is dissing Jay-Z on his new song…he quickly addressed that on twitter.
but what about…

Nice track, not too far removed from the Drake sound. Rips the hook from Jai Paul’s BTSTU if anyone is wondering.

I love it already. It’s going straight on repeat <3 🙂

Damn, nice pic. I didn’t even realize Info could play the violin. Talented lady.

dead
May 20th, 2011 at 8:49 am
Impressed. I was going to comment to let people know the original song is by Jai Paul, but you beat me to it.
May 20th, 2011 at 9:48 am
haha, they changed the pic.
May 20th, 2011 at 9:50 am
Hot! Drake & 40 = great music!
May 20th, 2011 at 10:11 am
YO I wasn’t expecting that “BTSTU” to be live, but that joint is ill
May 20th, 2011 at 10:38 am
OH NO PLEASE NOT! This beat is annoying. Cmon, 40 can produce great ones stop sampling shit music. I hope it wont
be on TAKE CARE!

Both tracks are great, both artists are forward thinking individuals. XL got a serious lineup with Adele, Odd Future, Jai Paul, MIA, and Vampire Weekend. Too bad Drake aint signed with them, bet all of his records would be more avant garde and indie, not just his mixtape songs.

this shit is harddd body i thought he was dumb giving dj khaled im on one for his album but listening ot this song i see hes going into a different aproach wit the new album and i love it … lots of people are hating on homie now cuz hes so mainstream but i jus dont understand why?? aint you suppose to change when u get money ?? u not in the same spot grinding to keep ya lights on anymore … fans need to get real homie tryin to grow and niggas need to let em do that
May 20th, 2011 at 11:43 am
AND ALSO 40 IS soo underated as a producer hes one of the best right now …
May 20th, 2011 at 11:48 am
the comfort of Maybachs vs. the unfortunate hassle of actually driving the Ferraris you own…
paris flight issues…
FENDI’S Casa Collection…
I suppose nobody, even Jay-Z at this point, does ‘aspirational rap’ better than Drake.
if you’re into that sort of thing, it’s a cool song.
May 20th, 2011 at 11:52 am
hahaha…..my friend noah from complex said “Drake makes being rich and famous sound so difficult. Thank god my success is middling, ’cause I’m having a blast.”

If we’re pretending Aubrey’s not taking a shot at Hov in this record, then we can also pretend this isn’t a liiiiight response via Hov’s blog… http://lifeandtimes.com/come-and-get-me
Call me crazy but the timing of this post is just a little too coincidental.
*Kanye shrugs*

Cool song….Sad to know that Jai Paul more than likely forwent royalties, and instead took a flat fee, or just allowed 40 to sample it for free in exchange for marketing…..the life of a struggling artist….
May 20th, 2011 at 12:46 pm
lol interesting
May 20th, 2011 at 1:14 pm
lol. true. MIDDLING SUCCESS: The New American Dream! Now that’s change I can believe in.
anyway, i’m sitting here lamenting the fact that the new woody allen movie isn’t showing in my city, so i guess we all have our own (highbrow?) problems.
May 20th, 2011 at 1:27 pm
lol. basically every time a rapper mentions an “older” rapper, or a rapper who “fell off” or in this case “lost it,” everyone thinks it’s a shot at Jay-Z. Somewhere LL Cool J is contentedly drinking a m̶i̶l̶l̶e̶r̶ ̶h̶i̶g̶h̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶e̶ protein shake.
‘and i feel like lately it went from top 5 to remaining 5,
my favorite rappers either lost it or they ain’t alive.’
it’s a slick line regardless.
May 20th, 2011 at 1:29 pm
your crazy…
May 20th, 2011 at 1:41 pm
lol! I like your style
May 20th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
real talk, i like the drake song, but the Jai Paul trak GOES, actually (surprisingly) better than the drake trak. both gettin added to the iphone anyway
May 20th, 2011 at 1:50 pm
fall / early winter gonna be crazy. drake in sept , nas in dec …. i hope they do a track together … on a preemo or pete rock beat ? can u imagine that ? CRAZY !
May 20th, 2011 at 1:56 pm
if this is the intro, i cant wait for the rest of it.
May 20th, 2011 at 1:58 pm

Well, it must be true if it’s on Twitter……
=|
Way I see it he takin’ a shot either way…
If he’s sayin’ Hov lost it he’s takin’ a direct shot.
If he’s sayin’ he hasn’t lost it but that he’s just not one of his favorite rappers – and at some point he was, but he’s just not anymore – he’s takin’ a shot.
Take it how you want it Q..
Aubrey is nothing if not an arrogant, little d-bag with a false sense of entitlement, so I wouldn’t put him above this.
And I ain’t hatin’ (cause I actually like this track (and wayyy better than most of the stuff on Thank Me Later for that matter) but I’m just unbiased and I pay attention) so we don’t gotta go that route.
I’d love to pick this up if the world doesn’t end tomorrow, so feel free to reply if you have your own opinion (and not just Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V from Twitter) and if you can refrain from name-calling.. thanks.

You may not think Drake’s taking a shot Jay…but I do…and i’m sure, Baby, Wayne, Nicki (All of Young Money), Dipset, Roc Nation, Rocafella, The ENTIRE realm of hip hop, not to mention 50 cent and ofcourse Jigga man himself. Knows it was a shot. Albeit friendly and harmless. But still a shot indeed. Mark my words. There will be subtle jab thrown back. …..but thats what I always loved about hip hop. The flossing, the talented word play and charismatic flows with double meanings…yall got Baby money, aint even got my lady money… 🙂
May 20th, 2011 at 7:16 pm
I also think the song is AWESOME!!!! Great job!! I’m already on spin # 10. lol
May 20th, 2011 at 8:44 pm
not for nun but this is terrible, drake said afta thank me later that his next album will be strait rap ova hard beats, wat a shock that it aint
May 20th, 2011 at 8:56 pm
Question… Why couldn’t he be talking about Nas? Not saying he is but it would fit better then Jay.. I mean Jay is coming of maybe the biggest song of his whole career.. (Empire State of Mind) While Nas last hit was when.. Just a thought..
May 20th, 2011 at 9:32 pm
soon as he saw J cole sitting undecided for his album push drake heated up on him real quick. lol rookie of yr drake j cole runner up
May 20th, 2011 at 11:44 pm
“Can’t tell you how much I love when niggas think they got it.” That’s funny coming from his conceited ass lol. “Dreams Money Can Buy” ain’t nothing special in my opinion & neither is Drake.
May 20th, 2011 at 11:51 pm
A NYC radio DJ started that rumor on their morning show. Sucks to see people try to start things just to get some ratings.
May 21st, 2011 at 8:31 am
yo that jai paul track is actually sick! but 40 caught the hook perfectly! drake goes IN!!
May 21st, 2011 at 1:50 pm
I don’t remember him ever saying Nas was his favorite rapper.. he has said something along the lines that he didn’t cry when Pac died but he would if Jay-Z did.
I do get your point tho, there are probably other rappers he could be talking about.
May 22nd, 2011 at 12:47 pm
LOL my thoughts exactly….*sync*
