While the mystery around 18-year old Dominic Lord continues to have labels frantically courting the young Harlem kid, Dominic Lord is only focused on making sure his art is properly introduced to the world. His official debut song “Pierce” caught the ears and curiosity of critics from a number of musical genres. I love how complex his production is. It’s almost Rza-esque the way the beat is layered with a million different sounds. “Old English” is a bit more of a traditional hip-hop song than “Pierce” but still enthralling as hell. The birds at the end seal the deal for me, almost like Premo’s in the beginning of “Nas Is Like.”
Listen to Dominic Lord’s “Old English” after the jump…
Dominic’s Fashion Show EP will be released on Sept. 7.

I heard the first song and thought…well maybe its ok, lets keep an open mind.. hip-hop is evolving… (I think i got caught in the hype info gave it with all of that “bidding war” talk)
But after a second listen to the first track “Pierce”…. its just ok and by no means any call for bidding war!!! music has lost it’s way as far as “new rappers” go…
as a HUGE fan of NY rap i ask… WTF happened? if he played that shit in the 90′s he would get laughed at, as he should now. he has no flow, NO lyrical ability and the second songs beat and lyrica are wack so if he is a producer he needs work there too.
Miss info, if your getting paid to post this please get that doe (i don’t hate), but if not… please refrain from posting this garbage as you have a large influence and young ppl will think you co-sign this b/s thus making lack luster attempts at rap acceptable which only hurts hip-hop in the long run.
signed a true fan…

What happened to 90s rap?? We moved into the 200s that’s happened. Check for Action Bronson and Joey Badass for that style of rap. They’re ill as fuck. This is kid is completely different, but still good.

what happened to 90s rap? “it got watered down” is the right answer. Just as it was getting watered down at the end of the 80s.
anyway, ASAP Rocky > Ghostface Bronson and Joey Random. Listening to that “Demons” instrumental as I type this.
I mean honestly… has ANY rapper released a tape as interesting as LiveLoveASAP in a few years? The whole vibe of that shit (the occassional subpar rhyme aside) is just fresh.
Clams is a perfect example of taking what was great about old school hip hop and pushing it forward. Evolving it.
Not throwing good shit away, throwing shit on a wall to see what sticks, and then saying “I’m evolving the culture!”

IF YOU WANT 90′S HIP-HOP. GO BUY 90′S HIP-HOP.
ITS 2012 MY FRIEND.
AS JAY-Z SAID—”N-ggas want my old sh-t, buy my old albums”…
MUSIC IS SUPPOSED TO ENTERTAIN. IF YOU WANT LYRICS SO BADLY… WHY NOT GO READ POEMS OR VICTORIAN ERA POETRY DATING BACK TO SHAKESPEARE’S TIME. BECAUSE THE LYRICS USED IN THOSE PLAYS AND POEMS ARE A MILLION TIMES MORE SUPERIOR TO RAP ABOUT DRUGS, B**CHES, MONEY AND JEWELS..

Love you to death Miss Info, been a huge fan for years. Again you’ve co-sign some complete b.s. I will agree that the production is amazing but thats is far as I can go. Like the big homie said above, this isn’t coming from a hateful place, by all means get your bread. On the other hand if you’re getting paid for this co-sign, for the future state of hip hop PLEASE stop it with these horrible songs.

That’s good to know, but my primary point is you guys have a responsibility to your professional and hip hop as a culture to use your co-sign for quality shit and this isn’t it. I don’t have a issue with “stepping out the box” but if yo shit is wack, its wack.

Don’t agree with you. Dominic Lord’s music is of high quality in my opnion. Is there anyone “new” that has caught your attention? I’m curious to know who you are feeling. All jokes aside, we value you as a reader.

The whole Black Hippy Movement, Joey BadAss, Action Bronson, Nitty Scott Da MC, Iggy, Azealia Banks. A lot of new artist have the look but lack the talent and it doesn’t help there isn’t a lot of artist development.

I agree with Just B. Not taking anything away from dudes creativity but nothing about his music is ear catching. His lyrics are nothing special. The beat is ehhh. Hard to believe this would ever get played in NY let alone in Harlem. I understand that the entertainment industry in general latches on to whatever appears to be “fresh and unique” at the moment but it’s starting to get ridiculous…..And Rza-esque?…More like Bobby Digital

Stop playing MissInfo…this joint garbage..HIP HOP is on life support and unfortunately dude aint breathing no life into it. Its a shame that the younger generation has this type of music that define what hip-hop is to them. If labels are bidding for dude, then I can understand why the labels keep merging!!!!One common goal…dumb us down!!!!!REALTALK

there really are a lot of dudes who need to thank Lil B for their careers…. and at least Lil B has some humor to his shit. this, for me, is trash, and so was his other joint.

the hilarious thing is that people were shitting on B like he was the worst thing to happen in rap.
Not “water my rhymes down” Lil Wayne, “I’m a fake hustla with basic flows” Ross, not “I’m about ringtone rap” Soulja Boy or “It’s all about money” Jigga.
of course the only one with any artistic longevity is Jay-Z, but you get my point.
Lil B, as wacktacular-but-sorta-artistic-at-times as he is/was, was kind of doing something different.

DO PEOPLE JUST COPY THE OPINION OF THE 1ST PERSON TO COMMENT OR IS EVERYONE ELSE EXCLUDING MIKEY FRESH TONE DEAF….
DOMINIC LORD MAKES QUALITY MUSIC. ANYBODY CAN RAP BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN CREATE A GOOD SONG. I.E. SOMETHING WITH PLAY BACK VALUE AND ACTUAL STRUCTURE WHICH IS MORE DARING THAN YOUR TYPICAL RAPPER WHO LAYS DOWN 16 BARS WITH A HOOK FROM AN R’N'B SINGER.
I GIVE UP… THIS SONG AND PIERCE ARE QUALITY MUSIC NOT ONLY IN THE RAP GENRE BUT ALSO AGAINST ANY OTHER GENRE
