Nelly is expanding his sound. The St. Louis native, who has always stepped into different genres during his long career, is working on a Country EP.

Continue after the jump…..

The 40-year-old rapper is now being managed by J. Erving of Atom Factory, who spoke to Billboard about Nelly’s new project.

“He’s a free agent on the label side now, and is working on a country-based “Heartland” EP, which should be really interesting. He may be one of the first hip-hop artists to jump into that space in an authentic way with Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, so we think he has an opportunity to grow that base even more.”

Along with naming his 1998 debut album Country Grammar, Nelly has had success on the Country charts. He previously worked with Tim McGraw on Sweat/Suit‘s “Over & Over” in 2004 and more recently Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” in 2013.
