Singer Natalie Cole passed away on Thursday night in Los Angeles confirms a publicist. The daughter of the legendary Nat King Cole died at the age of 65, from congestive heart failure. Natalie’s kidney troubles dates back to 2008, when she was diagnosed with hepatitis C. In 2009, Cole underwent a successful kidney transplant at at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Natalie had previously attributed her illness to her battles trying to stop using ocaine and heroin. She had been sober for a while following a few stints in a rehabilitation clinic. A six-time Grammy Award winner, Natalie Cole will best be remembered for the classics “This Will Be” and “Unforgettable.”

It is with heavy hearts that we bring to you all the news of our Mother and sister’s passing,” a rep says in a statement released to TMZ. “Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived..with dignity, strength and honor. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever.”
