Nas x Noisemakers w/ Peter Rosenberg: Michael Jackson’s Phone Call, Jay-Z’s Importance
Posted by Mikey Fresh under videos[13] Comments
During this year’s SxSw, our boy Peter Rosenberg held another memorable Noisemakers interview session with a hip-hop legend. This time, he got Nas to open up about his career’s ups and downs, and spill the beans on all the side stories we love to hear (well the hip-hop nerds at least). I think for the first time ever, Nas talked about Michael Jackson calling him on the phone one day.
“I don’t care who you are, you’re never ready to hear that Michael Jackson is on the phone. I don’t care how it goes, no one is ready to handle that shit. He’s a spirit, he’s not a man. That was a spirit on the phone.”
Also, at the very end, Nasir gives an incredible speech about Jay-Z’s importance to hip-hop.

Nas’ last comment, on Jay Z and our legacy, our responsibility – that’s what it’s all about…
Didn’t think I could respect Nas more – and wasn’t expecting such a heavy statement since he seemed to be driftng in and out the interview.
Props Mikey for sharing this.

The only thing I can take from this interview is that Nas was under the influence of some extremely potent substances. I’m still trying to find the “incredible speech about Jay-Z’s importance to hip-hop.” This is no offense to Peter though. He did a good job.

Something that was said in the interview, no matter what you think of Nas or his music, he has stayed normal/humble throughout his career and not made a lot of crazy decisions like other rappers. Apart from the smoking he is a decent role model in that world.

smh his craziest decision tho, was not paying the tax man! Nas’ too intelligent for that! that 6million owed can eclipse multiple fuckups another rapper may do! of course I’m sure his devil of an ex wife is some to blame for his financial woes! smh that’s alotta bread to have to pay back man!
