Nas Duets With the Late Amy Winehouse on “Like Smoke” (Hot97 Premiere)

A bittersweet treat. My Hot97 family got the scoop on this new Amy Winehouse x Nas song, “Like Smoke” which posthumously fulfills the late singer’s wish to collaborate with her friend “Mr. Jones”. It’s a gorgeous retro-soul track, in typical Winehouse style and produced by Salaam Remi back in 2008. “Like Smoke” is the lead single off Lioness: Hidden Treasures, a collection of songs Amy recorded before her death this past July.
New Music: Amy Winehouse feat. Nas “Like Smoke” (Produced by Salaam Remi)
Nas rhymes:
“…like a polygamist with a twist, will I marry again, maybe, I guess….”
“I be out in London, Camden, hunting for the answers why the God take away the homie. I can’t say that I’m a firm believer that we all meet up in eternity. Just hope the big man, show me some courtesy….“
oh man.

Incredible. That’s crazy if this Nas rhyme is from 08 and still sounds this fresh. Nas is just eating rappers alive on the low for fun now.

So good
November 3rd, 2011 at 12:08 am
well… it’s been obvious that Nas can still rhyme. He’s probably the only rapper from his generation that can consistently slay bars. It’s effortless for him.
I just wish he’d get more soulful, boom bap production. The type that made him a god in the first place.
If he did that more often, he’d be unquestionable.
November 3rd, 2011 at 12:19 am
utterly amazing. classic perfection.hope this goes straight to #1.

@ B-EZ45
the beat was produced in 2008. Lyrics are new… heard him say something about protesting on Wall Street.
November 3rd, 2011 at 7:49 am

November 3rd, 2011 at 7:37 pm
I think the track and vocals are from ’08…Nas’ rhyme is current, “posthumously fufilled”
November 3rd, 2011 at 7:57 pm

November 5th, 2011 at 10:45 pm
This song (duet) is bomb! It only leaves you wanting more. They truly compliment each other’s contrasting styles. Let the gifted go on Like Smoke…I thank all of Amy’s people for showing their respect for her talent and honoring her memory.
November 6th, 2011 at 1:33 am
Amy was a true star in the sense of the word, she was in fact more than a star, her voice was so amazing like Billie Holiday , Sarah Vaugh and many of the greats. Nas was torn up like all of us when she passed and like all of Gods Angels they always go home to be with him in peace. So I know he’s enjoying his angel. Rest in Peace Amy.
November 6th, 2011 at 11:32 pm
Wow amazing song. I hope the radio recognizes this is good music and plays this 40x a day. Great lyrics and a great voice. I hate the politics of music, this should have been a single when she was alive. We wouldn’t have gotten that Nas verse but who knows…
November 7th, 2011 at 1:37 pm
I agree, ever since Illmatic, (which I still have in my CD case in my car), he has been slayin’ and rhyme sayin’. I still think he is one of the truly gifted rappers of all time. He is unequivocally on the same plane with Jay-Z, 2Pac, Biggie and Big Daddy Kane.
November 7th, 2011 at 2:48 pm
OMG! AMY, AMY, AMY! I miss you so much! I AM LOVING THIS SONG!
November 7th, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Nas you and Amy did a beautiful duet, Thank you and god bless you Amy…
November 8th, 2011 at 9:20 am
Winehouses vocals are pure smoke..pure. Octave range is beautiful music-as well as Nas’s rappin.
November 8th, 2011 at 11:08 pm
NAS is nobody to let get out of your sights. too fresh all the time
November 10th, 2011 at 12:28 am
I will continue to listen to Chicago. 4 original members aged 67 and still putting on 2 hour shows playing music that you can understand. Robert Lamm is the Man. 26 years since Peter Cetera quit, but the the hits from 25 or 6 to 4, Feeling Stronger everyday, If you leave me now, Does Anybody Know what time it is ? Saturday in the Park. Wake up America and catch them play their 43 CD “Oh Christmas Tree” at a concert hall near you.

November 12th, 2011 at 1:49 pm
hey there, quick question….where did you find the link for our post? I’m just asking because I keep noticing new comments on this post and I’d like to know if it was mentioned somewhere.
Thanks for the visit!
November 12th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
I agree, get rid of the rap and let Amy’s gift shine on its own merit.
November 12th, 2011 at 4:05 pm
I always loved Amy Winehouse. her truth and awareness of self was courageous, however you may look at how she chose to live her life. So many people hide who they really are and put on fronts for the public, but she was herself, always. You gotta respect that.
Anyway, I love this song. R.I.P. Amy.
November 12th, 2011 at 4:20 pm
Saw it on Yahoo. Glad I clicked the link. This song is dope.
November 12th, 2011 at 5:28 pm
ohh…ok cool. So it’s on yahoo somewhere! Did it pop up when you searched for something, or was it on a homepage?
November 17th, 2011 at 7:24 am
Love it! Your blog reference on Yahoo! Music at http://yhoo.it/tdxsYr
November 17th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
NAS IS UNQUESTIONABLE!! The beats don’t make him.Two greats on this track, and the track is hot,but sadly one is gone.Big ups to Nas and may peace be upon Amy.
November 17th, 2011 at 1:57 pm
Remove yourself…
November 17th, 2011 at 2:20 pm
This is amazing I love this song……Missing Amy rest in peace Amy…. Wish you was still here….
November 17th, 2011 at 2:49 pm
sorry, this is bad. the backing track dribbels on while they trying to strech Amy’s uncompleted vocals to with a pointless rap. not sure if Amy’s gonna like it!
November 17th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
Amore’ Amy. Fantastic girl.
November 17th, 2011 at 9:54 pm
I think this Nas person ruins the whole song. It would be 100x better without him. But then again, I’m picky about hiphop/rap. Too bad its not JUST Amy Winehouse.
November 18th, 2011 at 12:47 am
Love The Voice. R.I.P. Amy. This song needs more air play, along with the rest of her music. Nice rapping Nas!
November 18th, 2011 at 12:49 am
Love This Voice. R.I.P. Amy Winehouse
November 18th, 2011 at 11:11 am
Even the last notes of her voice, on this song, gave me chills… We miss you Amy. You were among us, delivered your gift against all odds; and left to be an Angel. Thank you.
November 18th, 2011 at 9:27 pm
Damn. Nas + Amy will def chart on Billboard with this. Here’s hoping… So far, Tony Bennett did go #1 with his duet with Amy… I can’t believe she’s gone in the physical… 🙁
April 25th, 2012 at 5:11 am
Is it “Like smoke I hung around and be your balance” or “like smoke I hung around in the unbalanced” ??? every lyrics website tells me different….anyone maybe got the physical copy and says so inside?? :/ i really need to know thx!!!!
