Nas has been a little quiet since we got “Nasty” last year. Well the silence ends today, after dropping the artwork last night Nas gives the green light to Hot 97′s Funkmaster Flex to world premiere his new single, “The Don.” Nasir’s tenth studio album is slated to release later this year via Def Jam Records. R.I.P. Heavy D.
Although he’s on to another chapter/Heavy D gave this beat to Salaam for me to rap to/

New Music: Nas – “The Don” (prod. by Heavy D, Salaam Remi, and Da Internz) (Explicit/CDQ/No Tags)
Nas – “The Don” Lyrics:
[Intro: Super Cat]
Super Cat
New York girls dem are bad over we (4x)
Nas the Don (8x)
In a new york city (4x)[Verse 1]
Yea….yea
Smoking a escubano, guzzle my second bottle
Hope I don’t catch a homo (homicide)
Grossing our net
Simultaneous making me climb higher heinous crimes behind me
Search but can’t find me
Fuck sadness
Had this been you havin this lavish
Habitual happiness at me you wouldn’t look backwards
You would have sex on condominium roof decks
So anyone move next
I’ll hit you with two techs
Rocking Roberto Cavalli no shirt on convertible Mazy
My Columbiana mommy ridin beside me
Every tat mean something, that’s my word on my body
I’ll have to lean something wit that Mossberg shotty
My n*ggas is ignorant put lead in yo pigment
Just for all the days y’all was mad I was getting it
In 97 the six
98 the Bentley
Now it’s the Ghost Phantom
And ya’ll can’t stand em but……[Hook]
Nas the Don (8x)
In a new york city (4x)[Verse 2]
Army Jacket swag Army jacket green and black
Wit the square top pocket that snaps
Where the gas at?
Pass that, not you
You hold crack where your ass at
I never did that, my sock where my stash was at
Yo I use to listen to that red alert and rap attack
I fell in love with the poetry I mastered that
Cuttin school with Preme team at phat cat was at
Future not crystal clear yet BaccaratNow im the one that’s reppin Queens way beyond your wildest dreams
Bottles on bottles with sparklers surround my team
That long cash get the baddest bitches out they jeans
20 years in this game lookin 17
I don’t lean: no codeine, promethazine
I just blow green pick which a bitch can bless the king
Although he’s on to another chapter
Heavy D gave this beat to Salaam for me to rap to
Blaaaah…[Hook]
[Verse 3]
Yeah yeah..
New York is like an Island a big Rikers Island
The cops be out wildin, all I hear is sirens
It’s all about surviving same old two step
Tryna stay alive when
They be out robbin, I been out rhyming
Since born knowledge like prophet Muhammad
Say the ink from a scholar
Worth more than the blood of a martyr
So I’mma
Keep it on til I see billion dollar
Keep your friends close and ya enemies closer
Love model chocha mommy pop it like she suppose to
Eyes red shot like I’m never sober
Big time smoker Indonesian doja
Minis you can hold up before you get all wet up from my soldiers
Don shit
Under fire I remain on some calm shit
This for every ghetto and the hood
Nas the Don and Supercat the Don Dotta
Understood…[Hook]
Tells us your thoughts, this a great follow up to “Nasty”?

Nas just set the bar again for 2012. Exactly what he did with “Nasty” last year.

he set what bar…
the ‘mediocre street single talkin bout pretty much the same shit as the last street single’ bar?
just cause it has the old school sound it doesn’t necessarily make it good. it’s “aigght”.
this coming from a fan. a concerned one.

i gotta agree with Vcsom . i am not impressed at all. it was avarage at best. not wack but not amazing either , and when i think of Nas , i think amazing … if he took this long for something like this … i dunno , starting to think he lost another step … and before i get called out i’ll fill u in , in 94 i was 13 , i walked in some snow to go get illmatic … last year i went to rock the bells in nyc alone to see him … this dudes my fav m.c. period , but i gotta call a spade a spade. i’ll take this new album , and one more only if it’s him and preemo , then i dont want no more new music from him … real talk.

Well in 93 I was 18 and I like the flow. The verses are ok. Basic yes but everything can’t be elite. And that’s because its all based on perception. I enjoyed this because it does have a certain vibe. The beat can never sound like something from the 90′s because that was analogue this is digital. I think we only want what we like from a artist over and over. They are artists and Nas being one that is more about artistry than satifying the status quo. So when he wants to make street music that’s where his energy is and I respect it.

That N ring is crazy conceptually (I can tell he puts thought into his jewelry) Not to set conspiracy theorists off but he got the six planets (all different cut stones surrounded by Egyptian hyro on the border of the ring ) aligning around the “N” , coming full circle. That’s the circle of life. (if you into the mathematics)
and to the comments i saw about “same content matter Are you kidding me? He just brought heavy d back to life on the track, literally. Other than Busta rhymes (which even though he meant well with his intentions in the heavy tribute it wasnt as well executed as this nas track) he did the man justice.

There are 8 planets and 7 circles on Nas’s ring soooooo…
the song is ok as a blast out the whip tune but its average and i prefer the busta’s song as just a “song” tbh

He letting em out slow cause he know he’s working with a loaded deck plus as always he doesn’t follow what’s hot nas always tells fuckas what’s hot and set his own trends and that’s what sets him apart from everyone else the best to do it in my opinion ESCO let’s go

the beat takes a few listens to rock with honestly, it’s awkward as hell. Lyrics are stellar per usual.
This whole 90′s sound street single thing he’s been on is getting a little predictable. I know that’s his comfort zone, but i’m not here for an album full of that. Just like with “nasty” the tracks aren’t bad, but it’s just not quite “it” either. I do think “nasty” was a much better effort than this though.

A whole album with Damien Marley and untitled wasn’t enough….or hip hop is dead. Nasty hasn’t done an entire street album since stillmatic. I don’t get these complaints.

You nailed it. The point of this album was the street element. If anything he’s not in his comfort zone with political under tones like his last two projects. Nas isn’t corporate he still well in touch with the people, I have faith he will deliver.

1st of all I don’t listen 2 waka like dat. 2nd of all I have purchased several of nas’s albums. You 2 evolve ur sound 2 constanly grow as an artist. see you one of those cats who wanna remain in the early 90′s. Im talkin about advancing and not stay on a treadmill. Take Jay z & kanye’s album for instance. you dont have 2 follow the trend 2 make an edgy album. bth “real hip hop” is whack…i like real hip hop music. its a difference clown!
March 16th, 2012 at 3:36 am
Seems like Nas is having fun with this thing called hip hop his first single Halftime dropped 20yrs ago he still here and he’s keepin it true NY hip hop he aint signed to young money he aint got tht hottest niggas on his single he doing him now def jam needs to stop fuckin around and be a hip hop label and release some damn hip hop
