It’s a mediocre album track at best. If this is as deep as it gets, look for heavy backlash from the media. The only reason He got a pass for naming the album Nigger, is cause He has a history of making thought provoking music that educated as well as entertained. This song barely delivers on either level.
Somebody tell him what he’s doing is wrong. I stopped listening to rap music because of the n word. Rappers say it too much. Doesn’t anybody else think it’s just plain wrong.
I’m feeling the track. I need to give it a couple of more listens in order to dissect the lyrics but the overall feel is nice. I literally busted out laughing listening to the hook. A nice lil’ spin on that Dr. Pepper commercial.
@amp…yeah, I gotta say, I’m still in wait n see mode. The hook is interesting because there is that underlying commentary on how some members of different races try to appropriate the n-word for themselves….when there’s nothing so glamorous about being treated like one.
But then the main verses don’t really bring it.
hmmm.
@Omar….I do think blending classic soda jingles with race debate is genius tho.
Still on the fence, but I have to say his flow is much better than the past couple of albums’ singles. And the production value as well. I just hope he finally learned to pick beats for this album…
I’m not a big Nas fan, but I’m a bit appalled that you guys can’t see the genius of this track, away from the vhorus (’specially you Info). Let’s take, for example:
“Not mad cause Eminem said Ni**er / Cause he’s my Ni**er./ Wigger. / Cracker / Friend / We all black within / We all African within / Some African’s don’t like us no way / A killin’ happened in Johannesburg yesterday.”
But then again, maybe this is all a part of the withdrawal symptoms from that Soulja Boy / Bubble Gum / Crank that BS we’ve* been collectively stuck on for the past 9 months.
*When I say ‘we’ I really mean ‘you.’ I’ve been taking Block McCloud’s advice. I haven’t listened to a radio in 14 months. Sorry Info.
im a nigger… wouldnt you all wanna be niggers to =]…. booom and kickrocks your my nigga too…… lmao thiz album will be tough! I cant wait to see him on topof the charts and on the radio.. (white man who updates album sales on radio) comming in with the number one spot we have nas’s “NIGGER” and msinfo is it really neccasary to put N****R.. its the mans album give him the full album name please… lmao ima have fun with this album… *******
@ Info… I’m kind of surprised that Nas didn’t say anything profound here. There’s a couple of good quotes here and there in the opening verse so I expected him to really bring it on the second verse. But then he goes completely off topic on it; unless there’s something that completely went over my head.
But I can’t really hate this song – or label it as mediocre like AmpGeez – because from a technical standpoint, this is great. I’m loving Nas’ delivery here, specifically the second verse. And the beat is nice. I can just zone out to it.
nas is a beast when it comes to this rap stuff no one can touch him. all of y’all who think lil wayne is the best rapper alive y’all need to do what busta rhymes said at the nas concert. ” you can eat a D and D i thousand death”
Far from radio or any thing out today with a concept, from my all time fav artist.its not nothing that will get played at sues sh!t probly wont make radio but im happy and will support.lost is coming back,gta4 is droppin next week, and signs of the n!@@er album=priceless.
Damn this nigga nas the man, But I’m just wondering how many of you guys is going to lower your car stereo at the light when this track is on. Can’t wait to hear and analyze
leave it to nas to drop the single on the day the ALBUM was supposed to come out lol.
Was really beginning to think this album wasn’t coming out at all….I cant wait though…song has got me anticipating it even more though!!
im a big fan of nas. but the moves that hes been making lately makes me question myself as a fan. i ran with hip hop is dead because i thought he was making a statement. he was making one. but i just listened to that album once and couldnt listen to it again. with this new album. and the new album title. i think hes just doing it for controversy. this song. i dont want to hate but hes not really saying anything thought provoking. i just heard the n word over and over. that got madd annoying. ill still check for this but my expectations are not high.

This track is thorough, and I don’t typically check for mainstream dudes, not even Nas.

I’m still hoping the album lives up to it’s promise. With a title like that, I expect Him to be saying more.
It could be a good move tho….
Release a sub par, cutting room floor joint & lower expectations & then crush em when the album drops!
Just wishfull thinking =)

This is the only place on the internet that I’ve seen that has censored the word “nigger”. Weird.

The Beat is tough. He touches the topic but doesn’t delve 2 deep. I see it as an intro. The hook is from Efil4zaggin.
