Nas and Kelis Court Update: $40k for her, $10k for the baby

Nas and Kelis were in an LA courtroom today and according to TMZ, Kelis confirmed that she and Nas tried to reconcile back in September but it didn’t work out. “She’s also talking about the difficulty she has earning money — because with a new kid and not a lot of job options outside the music business, it’s tough out there.” (However, Kelis did recently sign to Will I Am’s label).
Nas took the stand to answer charges that he hasn’t been making his payments. He told Kelis’ lawyer that he thought he was up to date. He also asked for overnight visits with his infant son, Knight.
But in the end: “The judge just ordered Nas to pay $40,454 in spousal support and $10,647 in child support. And, Nas must pay disso-queen Laura Wasser’s attorney’s fees, to the tune of $46,022.”
Is that monthly? If so…cha-ching.

Of course you would. Tru story is, it doesn’t cost 51k to raise any child in this country, expecially a new born. They both are recording artists with the opportunity to tour and make money. 51k is just ridiculous! She should have stood up in court and said what’s real. It doesn’t take that much to raise a grown man, let alone a newborn.

Whats crazy is how does someone like Nas end up paying so much a month when 50,diddy don’t even pay that much a month for their kids and they are in a much high tax bracket then Nas. I’m confused. Kelis is basically stating that it is hard out here now that money-making options in the music business are dwindling so she needs support. Why not do what most responsible adults do and DOWNSIZE AND LEARN TO LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. Taking Nas to the bank is only going to go so far. He’s in the same business that she is in. While Nas is OBVIOUSLY more commerically viable than she is at the present time his money won’t be long forever. SMH @ Kelis. I really thought she was smarter than that.

The thing is Kelis is not no A-list artist. When was the last time she sold platinum. What kinda buzz does she even have besides being NAS wifey or ex. wife w.e…..Even if the music market is better no one will be checking for her, she ain’t beyonce, lady gaga, miley cyrus etc. plus the music business is going down the drain. It’s the internet free downloads etc. eventually cd’s in the next 10 yrs will be history like casettes.
Kelis needs to understand that her earning potential is no longer there. you have too many new acts and fortified artist u gonna have to compete and reality the surge is too strong. She should just let bygones be bygones and saty with nas cause in the long run he will come out on top while you be either working at your local walmart,target hopefully she has a college degree and can just get some kinda business administration job somewhere….

I think some of you are crazy thinking Nas’ money ain’t long. I know he’s not on the Forbes top celebrity list with 50, Puff, and Jay with hundreds of millions but just because he doesn’t run around flaunting it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have it. I remember Info reported a couple months ago Nas is part owner of Guerilla Union which is HUGE. With all that said I still think its completely ridiculous for Kelis to hit him for 50k a month. Kelis signed to Will I Am for 175k and only recieved 50k…after 10 years in the industry you would think Interscope would have gave her more and they said she has not filed taxes in several years…Nas is definitely gone have to pay her alimony for a durational period of time but this is no way a permanent situation, They were not married for a long term (10 years or more)…This is the a good thing Nas has in his favor!
