Mikey: You read it right, the Mixtape Daily crew over at MTV has voted Drake’s So Far Gone as their pick for “Mixtape Of The Year.” I know this is going to cause some static, but they have some valid points, and I mean the kid does have grammy nominations off this tape. Read the full article here.

They become more obvious with time
Everyone knows 50 had the Hardest Mixtape this Year with the War Angel lp
These people are in the “SHAPE PEOPLES PERCEPTION BUSINESS”
From Putting GRODT @ #8 for Hip Hop Album of the decade
( Laughable)
From Mtv putting 50 @ #8 on Mcs List( Another Joke)
These Media Outlets motives are very Obvious and its getting Disgusting

Listen I feel you.. And I dont think 50 gets nearly as much respect as he deserves for all he does or has done…
With that being said.. That drake mixtape while I still havent heard it at all yet HAHAHAHAH has to be one of the top 5 or 3 mixtapes of all time because it made a relative unknown a superstar! It has to be the best of the year based on that ALONE!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2ClmRH_ae0
50 Did what he was suppose to do! Now he can write for banks and laylow!
You have to keep in mind that each of 50’s first 3 albums did 700k or better in the first week…. And no one talks about when he did 1.1mill with the massacre in that short week that in week 2 he did 750k but Wayne does a million with The Carter 3 in week on and 250k in the second week.. FORREAL! CHECK THE STATS!

Top 5 or 3 of all time?
How are we defining quality bu commercial buzz or actual musical impact?
When you speak greatest Mixtapes of all time Drake isn’t even in the the equation.
G Unit/Shady ran the game with consecutive mixtapes just a few yrs ago.Jump back to the 1990’s DJ CLue, Doo Wap, Tony Touch, Classic Street Sweepers……

Yeah so what? FIFTY did great numbers in his previous albums. Better then JAY. Nonetheless, this game is about remaining relevant. Would u rather sell 20 million albums in your first 3 albums of existence and then drop off? Or, would u rather go platinum every year for a decade? In this game, you choose the decade. Show money (off 10 years of hits) beats 20 million record sales (75% of which 50 gave up to the record company). Still alot of money but well, he is moving into DMX obscurity after a hot start.

You obviously like 50 Cent a lot but why does it matter so much to you how many copies he sells of his albums?
I’m just curious about that since it’s something I never really understood about today’s rap fans.

Hmmmmm…..Wayne said he’s almost on par with B.I.G. I see.
Talented?…..yes.Most influential?…..Not so sure about that.Only because I’m not aware of who he’s influenced.
But MTV picking this isn’t a surprise. He’s clearly had the most commercial impact.

Why ‘SO FAR GONE” is the best Mixtape Ever, name one mixtape that you have that can do what his has done, he has a Grammy nod, from a mixtape, he is on everything, with everybody, based off the success of his mixtape, he went on tour, Country Wide, with a mix tape, GQ man of the year, Mixtape, Best I Ever Had, Successful, better than any other song that tried to crossover and generate success, EVER, people like him, they generally like him, look at all the other Internet Celebs, Mixtape Phenoms, can you honestly saw, they can sell anything, he sold more than most rappers, from a CD that was and is widely available for free
This proves two things, people support good music and most of AMERICA could care less about what’s on the NET, remember US is more than just NY/PHILLY, ATLANTA/MIAMI, CHICAGO, HOUSTON, LA there is a lot of places in between and guess what, they buy what they like, they barely on the net or watching tv, but love radio and this guys impact on radio, well undoubtedly change the game, just wait till next year, people will actually try to make a good mixtape instead of just rapping over beats and changing the hook to suit there songs needs, good music may come out of this, but we will have to wait and see

You’re first paragraph definitely speaks to the high level of commercial success Drakes gains thru this mixtape. But 2nd paragraph less solid in terms of “they barely on the net or watching tv” if their in school they have access to tv and internet so it’s not some Mega Metro influence or Online stunt working against Drake. Hell the internet was one of the biggest factors in Drake’s early rise….until the hype seemed to outweigh the substance.Which still remains to be seen as you said.
The real question is what was the competition? What other mixtapes was this put up against. If his comp was Gucci, OJ or Soulja Boy then sure he was the best.lol.

we all know drake can spit but seriously, did this mixtape produce anything classic or worth talking about for years to come?……. HELL TO DA KNAW!!!!!!!!! this drake shit is getting out of hand now. It’s even worst than lil wayne’s over hypness. You knew something was wrong when lil wayne got all that attention from a sub par album(carter 3) where was all that at when he deserved it?(carter 1, carter 2, squad up mixtapes)
have yall heard Charles Hamilton’s, saigon’s, papoose, chamillionaire’s, mixtapes? they shit all over this silver spoon fed rappers mixtapes.

“did this mixtape produce anything classic or worth talking about for years to come”
^^^^^When Drake blows, YEARS TO COME so far gone will still be talked about because this was his beginning. “So far gone” is going to be to Drake what GRODT was to 50 and what college drop out was to ye. This shit will be talked about years from now. Can you say the same about any other mixtape so far gone was up against?

So FAr Gone is the best mixtape of the year. But close behind is the Warmup by J. Cole. That kid is on par to make a classic

Arguing that this WASN’T the mixtape of the year (if not best MIXTAPE ever) only proves your ignorance, bias, or hate. i think #8 hit just about every point as to why. Here’s another. If you are like ME and LOTS of other people who think Drake is getting played out and losing his buzz before his album even drops just go back and listen to that mixtape. You’ll remember why he deserves the attention and acolades he’s getting. Again like most people say it was EASILY a great ALBUM not just a mixtape. In fact, it was F****G GRAMMY NOMINATED ALBUM quality. Who else has done that? EXACTLY.
i was on the mixtape early. really early. before Drake was DRAKE. i remember makin “Successful” my OFFICIAL joint and i got all mad when i heard it on the radio MONTHS later. lol. i was like “this is my shit and i dont wanna share.” that has nothing to do with anything just wanted to share. if u HAVENT heard the mixtape, PLEASE don’t have an opinion? lol. seriously.

understanding understood dude got a crazy buzz off of the mixtape…but why is a grammy nod the defacto(according to MTV) for winning “Mixtape of the Year”?
Was I in coma and dreamed about the days when the Grammys took Wooly Mammoth dumps on HipHop music. When did the Grammys and MTV for that matter define what HipHop Mixtape was the best…how quickly people forget about the house that Justo built. When will people learn that the media giants don’t define what is and was HipHop music/culture.
Nothing wrong with the media giants recognizing hiphop, but its a whole ‘nother situation when they dictate and judge HipHop and are quick to call us haters if we question their decisison….GTFOH! MTV and the Grammys will and can’t tell me what HipHop is….

I can’t say I’m mad about that choice… even though I don’t think So Far Gone was better than Comeback Season, it was solid… But sure I’ll give him mixtape of the year just off impact. but after this mixtape came out everything that followed has been mad watered down and redundant.. he doesn’t switch up his flow at all ever….
My personal favorite mixtapes of the year are probably joints people forgot about… the Jadakiss Green Lantern Kiss My Ass Round 2 was ill… and I preferred the Forever King 50 tape over War Angel LP, just like I thought Sincerely Yours, Southside was ill… the old school tracks do it for me. Also Blood On a Chef’s Apron by Raekwon was flame. Wale/9th Wonder – Back To The Feature and cARTer – Legal Trappin were all better mixtapes to me. That’s 5.
But I ain’t mad Drake.

The issue isn’t that MTV or the Grammys are telling you what hip hop is. The issue is the significance of a Grammy nomination period, from this concoction of a mixtape that he created which catapulted him to the position he’s in now. Let’s be serious here, the biggest stars with numerous ALBUMS out can only dream of having “Grammy award winning” precede their name whenever they’re introduced at any given venue. The nomination alone is a great accomplishment. I completely agree with MTV on naming this the best mixtape of the year. In my opinion it’s a classic.

this award was ONLY given for the Buzz it created NOT on content.
this mixtape had nothing to do with “buzz” it was ALL LIL WAYNE AND YOUNG MONEY.
listen to this mixtape back to back with “escape route” (joe budden) or “Kiss my ass” (Jadakiss)makes it sound pretty AVERAGE!

Watever i never said Drake didnt have a good Mixtape i just dont believe it was better than War Angel
his buzz is dying quickly as his album continues to get push backed and lil wayne and Baby oversaturate him with hooks on all of their records
i think he has his moments i just dont see the hype

I like how people keep claiming Drakes buzz is dying. How many songs this nigga got out right now? Money to blow, 4 my town, bedrock, that joint with Timberland? He got at least 4 records spinning on radio right now. All this without a single of his own. Thats a dying buzz? If 50 cent was on 4 radio records/music videos prior to BISD would people say his buzz sucked to?

The kid’s done more with a mixtape then anyone this year did with an album nuff said props to the kid.
