Mr. Cee’s “Hot97 Throwback at Noon” Guru Tribute: A Tribute to Guru

(Guru and DJ Premier during the GangStarr days)
I’m thankful that when we have hip hop celebrations or tragedies or anniversaries of either in hip hop, we can always count on DJ Mr. Cee to distill the essence of the particular artist into a hour-long “Throwback at Noon” mix. Today was no different, except that Mr. Cee also made sure to make his feelings about Guru’s legacy very clear…”If I want to do a tribute to Guru, I’m not asking no one for permission, but if I do ask for permission, I’m asking Premier….Shoutout to all of Guru’s blood relatives”
Mr. Cee’s “Hot97 Throwback at Noon” mix: A Tribute to Guru of GangStarr (no commercials, or callers, in stereo) (download link) (here’s an alternate link for a mono version with more of Cee’s comments included, via FWMJ)
Previously: Rest in Peace Guru, Guru from Gangstarr passes away, but did he really write this final statement…

Always good to hear real emotion from the brothers, and much love to Mr Cree for what he said, Guru belongs to Hip Hop.
Let Solar say whatever shit he wants, when it comes to judgement day he’ll be called to account for his games, assuming he’s playin games.
Now let’s focus on the legacy of music our brotha left us to enjoy.
Peace

Truely this is a big lost to REAL HIP HOP! I grew up in NYC listening to real Rap, Real Skills, Songs with meaning, And Gangstarr was one of the groups that put that type of music out there. Not this GARBAGE that is on the airways. Good Job Mr. CEE on the MIX, it is just to bad that Artist now don’t know nothing of Guru’s legacy, many will learn now but just for a few, it is our job to keep this Man’s music out there! Just to make a REP!!!!!!!!!! NYC please Keep Real Hip HOP Alive!
