Ahhh the Tunnel! The only club in NYC that had a Male and Female wheelchair bond patron rockin’….wheelin’, in the clubs. The good ‘ol days when Cypher Sounds wore a dirt black army fatigue hat and wouldn’t spin any records that I gave him because they weren’t underground. Thanks Tunnel for letting me hear Keith Murray loudly at around 930pm and everything Biggie at Midnight-3am. And to Royal Fam…yup Royal Fam and that Deck of Cards crap, thanks for, for, for whatever it was that you were doing to be in all the clubs at that time.
R.I.P: Club Esso’s, Bar 85, The Palladium (F- Trader Joes and NYU for taking over) Dunhills with D.J. Jules, Two i’s and all the other fun places you could see The General promoting records with a young female “intern”. Those were the days!

my first visit to The Tunnel was in late ’98. i flew up from Atlanta cause i was trying to be down with the Big Dawg Pitbulls (hahaha) i hung out in the DJ booth for a while and then i ventured into the coed bathroom where er uh, it was GOING DOWN in one of the stalls. crazeee…future visits saw me witness a Juvenile performance and a Dr. Dre & Snoop performance. i also witnessed Flex play Nelly’s “E.I.” and saw damn near everyone in the spot go nuts like it was the Benjamins or somethin…THAT WAS UNBELIEVABLE

Info, Do you have any idea how she got in the wheelchair?
She was fly, she wore some hot gear too. I knew a few guys that tried to get with her.

I’m 30 years of age. I went to the Tunnel on a Sunday ONE TIME back in the day. I am not ashamed to say that I was not built for that spot whatsoever. The adventure started before I even got in the club. While me and my homie JG waited on line, we witnessed a guy threaten whoever was in earshot to come back with “sum’n from the truck” for the bouncer who wouldn’t let him inside.
When I did get inside, I was searched Rikers Island style. Unless you were dancin’ w/ a bottle of Moet in one hand, girls wouldn’t pay attention to you. And I also witnessed a fight break out and security RUSH THE DANCE FLOOR like the shadows in Ghost (remember the part where the shadows come to life and take you to hell?) and swiftly address the situation by fucking up anyone involved in the altercation to begin with.
I was more of a Cheetah, Nell’s and NV type guy.

*about to drop a salt bomb*
Clubs is MAAAD overrated. Lots of ego and anymousity over-flowing the joint. It’s no wonder more people get killed at clubs than in the hood now and days.
Am I hatin’ or statin’?

Thanks Miss Info for posting the Tunnel segment from my documentary. I appreciate it. I put this one up exclusively for you when I saw you post the last Tunnel footage I posted with Jay-Z and Nas. I remember that lil cutie that use to be in the wheelchair too. I’m going to go through my tapes and see if I can find footage of her. She was a regular. Miss Info you should tell me one of the Tunnel shows you were at and let me see if I can find footage of you in the Tunnel. I’m sure your fans will love to see what you look like in the Tunnel back in the day.
The Tunnel was the best club in NYC in the 90′s nothing will ever come close. Maybe I should send you the footage when Jay-Z and Nas was in the heat of their beef and QB Finest performed Oochie Wallie and someone hit Horse in the head with a Moet bottle while he was performing and he kept on spitting. That was classic Tunnel ish!
Peace and love,

I remember my first time I went to the tunnel right before I graduated from HS in 93 it was a Wed or Thurs night spot at first and I was 17! I was hooked out the gate once it switched over to Sundays I was a super regular! I partied, fought and had the time of my life at that spot! Me and my girls got cool with the bouncers and rarely had to wait online. I never wore the same top twice to that spot EVER! I remember New Yrs of 1995 or 1996 Puffy jumped up on the bar and was dancin and passin out drinks. There was none of that VIP shit at the Tunnel. My stories could go on forever! If the Producer/Director wants to interview some folks get at me and my friends. There will never ever be a spot like that AGAIN!!!

1st time I went to the Tunnel I was 17- 1988. I loved it. When I first walked in….I got dumb amped cause I thought the club was like really really big….stupid me….it was the mirror that made the place look 2x as big. I went deaf from the blairing noise….All the females had sergio tacchini sweatsuits on, and looked like they just got out of prison… House music was in full effect in 88. real hard house music….jungle brothers, chubb rock…etc… wasnt a club where u saw lines of white people goin crazy to get in. they knew what it was.
The club was extremely hard, def. wasnt a place for the “soft kind”. and I never noticed gay people in there, but then again I aint go there every nite of the week… I assumed they would be too horrified to enter this “hoodlum central gathering grounds”. Last time I went there was like 95 or 96. christmas nite…it was closed down cause of a shoot out. that was the last time. I heard it closed down from then for good…..love hearin flex reminisce over it on hot 97. The Redzone was poppin as well.

Hey Info! I bumped into Queen Pen the other day at a toy drive and we talked about VIP night at the tunnel, she performed there in 1998 and ripped it. I think Boot Camp also performed too!
VIP night was during the week, once a year right before spring break. I think hot 97 used to give tix away.
But yeah i was politicking with friends just the other day about How Peter Gatien’s luxe clubs all got taken from him (limelight, tunnel and palladium).
I quote the vibe article on the tunnel all the time! I’m from Brooklyn and I gotta let people know that we post by the bar with our peeps!

When I started college I would walk from Hunter College to the Tunnel and party Sometimes we would get in for free cause we would get there when the staff was arriving and the bouncer would let us in and we would just hangout Just the whole vibe was off the hook the smell the unisex bathrooms the car parked out in front …When everyone use to be humble and thankful

man o’ man…The Tunnel!…i actually “worked” the Tunnel as a member of Flex’s Street Team in ’97-’98…i was a senior in HS…it was me, my boy Flava (who now DJ’s), and 6’9″ (a nickname bestowed unto him by “Paul” who’s last name i forget)…we used to drink cranberry & orange juice frontin hard like it was a mixed drink…lmfao…anyway…man we loved it there on a Sunday night…get there early to help Ciph bring his records in and scatter the whole joint w/ flyers for the following sunday…it was crazy man…remember watchin pun whip a n****’s ass w/ hit TS chain…i remember selling laminick’s to dudes way at the end of the line AFTER they were no longer good…and really felt like a star when Flex did a HS party like 5 blocks from our HS in bensonhurst – he let us rock on stage and senior year was POPPIN’ after that…good times…shout out to the realest dudes i met in those times – the God Born True, Ty, Paul, Jermaine aka Johnny Walker, and of course Mr. Excitement who used to let Flava keep some of the records we’d go scoop for him from other labels…love/

you know it Info…i actually went home and took it out…man…i got stories beyond stories of the fun we had and the drama we witnessed not to mention all the stuff we wasn’t supposed toe see/hear…lol…i’ll scan the pic and email it to you…no spam/viruses – you got my word…lol…i think that that was flex’s breakout year in the city…no other DJ was doin as much as he was…from the tunnel, to the big dawg pitbull crew, to mtv beach house that summer (which my man Flav has on tape from when we was on there…hahahaha)…the “accounts” we were promoting for other entities was sick – even though we still only got like $50 a week…lol…we still busted our asses throughout NYC…you couldn’t go nowhere w/o seein’ “flyers” (at least on the floor)…that’s enough for now…love/

Man….I can’t even begin to tell you…yo you know what, instead of going into long drawn out details of memories at the Tunnel of the bangin’ shows, bangin’ shorties, never waiting on line, watching other cats that got searched for weapons including taking their shoes off to make sure they didn’t have a deuce deuce or a razor in ‘em, the unisex bathroom, skip all that, I’ma just say it like this, one of my most fondest memories of the Tunnel was sitting at the bar building with Ghostface Killa & Busta Rhymes as if we grew up together…on some real fly shit…just humble as hell, they had no security or nothing…just being regular as hell….there will never be another club like that, that was the 90′s
